Thanks for the quick response. I don't have a manual so I'm not sure how to set Tone 2 for guitar. Can you explain or do you have a video that goes over these basic settings?
I just purchased a used (but in very good condition) PodX3. When I follow your settings it sounds identical until I attempt to set up Tone 2 there is no sound at all. Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?
Hi glenn. I checked out all your great video. And I has been very helpful. Just a quick question. When I run pod x3 to an amp, I just Connect the direct out to the input of the amp. Just want to know what setting I should have for my amp in the first place. Do I turn the volume of my amp up and use the pod as the main volume or the other way around?
this has to be one of the most epic effect boards ive ever used, mate lent me his for a gig i had lastnight, the clean sound though was far to trebly for my liking even when i had the guitar on the rhythm pick up with more bass then treble still did sound quite trebly :S but the lead and metal tones you can get on this is truly 1 word to describe, Orgasmic. didnt want to stop playing the tone was just soo amazing xD
is there already existing effects on the POD X3 Live, or do I have to create my own effects? I'm pretty simple with what i want and just want to start playing, but i do want all the pitch shifters, delay, and other special effects too instead of buying multiple pedals.
I was about to take a pee when I heard the opening clean tone.. wow! What's that progression? I know it's simple but still hoping you can post a chord:D please thanks! Great upload and tips by the way.
@extremevideopro Thanks! I am checking it out! I am trying to decide between the X3 Live or Bean version for my home recording and the lack of level control on the bean for input/output scares me! -thanks!
@extremevideopro But are they necessary? The X3Live has 1/4" stereo outs with an Amp/Line pad switch. The Bean lacks this but I guess with the 1/4" balanced outs, it may not be necessary. Looks like for recording with the bean the 1/4"s should be fine. With the Live you have the option. The Live has the 1/4" input with Normal/Pad switch! The bean version does not! Is this an issue for recording?
@richedie This should not be an issue unless you have a really hot guitar with very high output pick-ups on it. I've never had to use it on any of my guitars though.
@extremevideopro Thanks bro. My guitar's and basses are all medium output passive pickups with the exceptioon of the stock ceramic pickups in my 1994 CE22 which has a 19K bridge pickup. Doesn't feel as hot as it sounds though!
ectremevideopro.....do you gig with the X3Live? Why do you keep the cab sims activate through a guitar cabinet and speakers? Most people turn cab sims off! Ironically, I also prefer to have cab sims on even through a real cab/speaker rig as I find cab sims as another EQ layer, and instead I skip the parametric EQ.
@extremevideopro I tell people that all the time...I view them as another form of EQ...hence I find the right cab sim will work through any cabinet...regardless of speakers. I just pick the right cab sim for my cab, etc. :)
@heavypearls Hmmm sounds like a very nice rig. I would check into the 4 cable method for one thing and see if that sounds better than just going into the front of the amp. But the 4 Cable method would not be stereo so that might not be a good idea. When you say "both stereo" do you mean that you are coming L&R out of the X3 into a stereo channel on that amp?
@extremevideopro yes exactly, cause it's a stereo (L&R in one channel) tube poweramp just, it doesn't have a preamp. The X3 live is supposed to be the preamp that's why it doesn't work with the 4 cable meth. I am getting good fat distortion and cool lead tones but I still need a faithful high gain rythm tone that shows every note. Do you recommend a certain amp? with or without a stomb?
Is the pod x3 live's amp sims better than the boss gt-10's? I have a gt-10 and i hate the thing it sounds really bad live when i play with my hard rock/heavy metal band and i am wondering if the pod x3 SOUNDS better in live situations for metal.

Man I've been trying to get a good sound for months and I can't to it, I have the Pod X3 Live, a Line 6 Spider III amp, and a Brian May Guitars guitar and It sounds awfull I can't do anything, I've watched your videos and did exactly what you do, and the sound I get is completely different
@extremevideopro It is, man, I think there's a problem with eiher the amp or the guitar, because I took the X3 Live to Guitar Center to see if there was a problem with it, and in one of their amps, using one of their guitars it sounded really great, but here in my amp and my guitar it doesn't sound good, but I don't see what could be the problem, because when I play just using the amp and the guitar, withouth the pedal it sounds good

I've had the x3 live for a few months now and love it. I just got a Mesa Boogie Roadster combo and i cant get the x3 live effects loop to work properly. I am using the four cable method. I think I got it setup,i used the 4 cable method to do it. It colors my tone a bit but I'll work on that.BTW do you turn the master volume on your pod to max, then adjust from the amp?
The X3-Live has a slight lag but we are talking minimal. I was always able to time it to where you could not hear it. Yes the delays are very good and there is also "delay Spillover" from patch to patch. But you have to have the same delay on the next patch if you want the spllover.
Hey man. I was wondering if these are made to be used with regular guitar cabs or not. I was thinking of buying one to mess around with and need to know if I can use it with my Orange 2x12 or if I am just supposed to use computer speakers or whatever.
Hello there, very good video...I just want to ask about the overall quality if you record a track on the pc...I mean if you use the USB and just connect it to the pc and record with Cubase/Audition, the sound is very good or is just a pale version of what you actually play? I need to record lots of heavy riffs ( Tool like ), so I need that the distorted sound is not just a mess when recorded...what you can tell me about that?
Dude first i just wanted to thank you for your amazing videos they are AMAZINGLY well explained ! and i wanted to ask you a question... Between the GT10 and the POD X3 Live which is better for a guitar player that plays between Rock and Metal like bands such as Nickelback, Creed, Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge, Three Days Of Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Godsmack, Hinder, Pantera, Papa Roach, Metallica, Seether, etc. And which of these two is better for recording?
i'm thinking of buying a line 6 pod x3 live but i'm wondering if the pedal works fine only with a power amp marshall el 30 50/50 or if i also need to buy a pre amp. Greetings.
when i hook up a mic to the back of the x3l i can here the mic in the headphones but not in my am or recorder am i supposed to do something in the window to activate it??
I've asked you so many questions about this unit xd I just have one more.. Is it possible to use the Pod X3 Live to change the channels on your amp like you can do with the Tc Electronic g-system? Basically I want to put this in the amplifier effects loop and make a bank where patch one is my amp's clean channel with chorus and reverb, and the second patch is my overdrive channel with delay and reverb for solos. Is that possible or do i have to use distortion from the Pod X3?
Unless your amp has MIDI then it's not possible. Then even then I'm not sure but I know the X3 does transmit MIDI CC messages so it may switch an amp that has MIDI control. Does your amp have a switcher that came with it?? I would just use that.
The amplifier I've been thinking of buying hasn't got Midi.. So I guess I would be stuck with the Pod X3 distortions, But by the sound of it, they seem to be good as well..
Your videos are very good. I bought POD X3 today and I dont know which output I should use. I need one output for combo and one for PA. thanks for answer.
I think most of those people are using the X3 for direct recording or direct to console and not using an amp. For this X3 and the GT-10 for that matter is very good. I can't really say about the G-system cos' I don't have one of those.
does your amp get a full sound coming out of it with this sort of setup? I have used other pedal boards and it usually sounds "ok" when you are playing alone; however, you will notice that many boards are missing the full sound. I think this is usually happens in high gain scenarios. It misses that "chug" and "umph"... I know you are supporter of the x3, what are you impressions in that regards?
I am currently using a tube amp with the Boss GT-10 (for effects ONLY). I have a very full sound at any volume. Don't play much real heavy stuff with my band but my amp has plenty gain if I need it!!
@bbtucci I have a Spider III 75 watts and I don't know how to make it sound good with my new pod x3 live, Do you think it is a good combination the pod with that kind of amp, isn't it better to buy another kind of amp or is it possible to get a really good sound wth that amp?
hey pablo18sm i left you a message with some tips, i left i in spanish, cause i noticed youre from costa rica, if you only speak english please let me know!!! and ill send you another message
when you use this on stage, do you tell the guy on the mixing console to keep every parameter on the mixer corresponding to your guitar at 12o clock position? plz reply
Glen, That PRS is gorgeous. Do you ever put any of your tones on L6 Custom Tone? I have a XTL that is still a blank canvas. I know it holds different tonal processing properties than the X3L but would love to get some of your tones or at least try to come close. Any ideas for a XTL? Thanks.
Thanks, I love that guitar. You can download my XT bundle from my blog and try out my tones. I also have XT sound samples. It's in the Patch Download area of my blog.
i dont even have a POD. Yet i still enjoy watching you play and tweak to get an amazing tone at the end. its almost like watchin that show "how its made" only your making "guitar tones". keep it up glenn.
Hi Glenn, I I have hooked up my pod x3 live straight to my KRK Rokit 8 monitors and have tried a few different connections but fail in the tone department as far as getting a good quality sound close to the headphones sound, How do you setup your x3 to your monitors and do you find it sounding the same as you headphone sound?. I have tried hooking to the monitors from the phones out and it sounds the best but don't know if that's good for the unit or monitors. How do you hook your monitors?.
That won't hurt your unit or monitors at all. Make sure your output mode is set to Studio/Direct. With that setting you should hear in your monitors what you hear in your headphones.
Nice demos you've posted here on you tube, I'm impressed with this unit & considering of purchasing this unit, My question is,,, does this unit come with harmonizing effects?
You can use the Pod X3-Live as a preamp right? So, you can plug it straight to a cabinet? (by cabinet I mean a single guitar speaker, I'm not sure that is the correct term, sorry)
Yes you can plug both a guitar and bass to the inputs and route them each to there own separate output. Then using a dual tone you could have tone 1 for guitar and tone2 for bass. Pretty cool, that is one thing the X3-Live has over other brands for sure.
Hey, Glenn. I have a quick question. If you have four different sounds in the A, B, C, and D channels, do you need to have them on the same bank #? (in your case #26)
Thanks a lot for this video, brother. I'm picking one of these up soon and this cleared a ton of questions. I'll be sure to refer to you if/when I have questions about it.
I was wondering how recording with the POD works. I don't own it but I was thinking about owning it. I hear from you thats its incredibly good but I was wondering how do you record with it? Like if you want to record to make your own songs or somewhere among that. Would you need anything else besides the POD? Also I saw that the POD can record guitar, bass, and vocals but how would you record the drums?
ok one stupid question.. This pedalboard is just the control switch for the red POD thing or it has all this on it (so you don;t need the red POD)? The reason i ask is cause i'm really intrested on that model and a friend in the past got confused and bought just the control of the red POD and then he had to buy the red POD too..
This is the POD X3-Live. Then you have the POD X3. The X3-Live has the X3 contained inside the pedal board with more I/O's. The X3 is just the bean with no pedal board.
Thanks for the quick response. I don't have a manual so I'm not sure how to set Tone 2 for guitar. Can you explain or do you have a video that goes over these basic settings?
Thanks for your time.

And which of these two is better for recording?
dragrond 2 years ago
They are both great for recording. I think the bands you mention here are high gain sounds. i think the X3 is better at High gain tones

Hello extremevideopro
nice sound!!!
i'm thinking of buying a line 6 pod x3 live but i'm wondering if the pedal works fine only with a power amp marshall el 30 50/50 or if i also need to buy a pre amp. Greetings.
mikemachadao 2 years ago
That will work great. You'll need a cab too you know,
extremevideopro 2 years ago

when i hook up a mic to the back of the x3l i can here the mic in the headphones but not in my am or recorder am i supposed to do something in the window to activate it??
DentedFender1340 2 years ago
I've asked you so many questions about this unit xd I just have one more.. Is it possible to use the Pod X3 Live to change the channels on your amp like you can do with the Tc Electronic g-system? Basically I want to put this in the amplifier effects loop and make a bank where patch one is my amp's clean channel with chorus and reverb, and the second patch is my overdrive channel with delay and reverb for solos. Is that possible or do i have to use distortion from the Pod X3?
PatrikForLife 2 years ago
Unless your amp has MIDI then it's not possible. Then even then I'm not sure but I know the X3 does transmit MIDI CC messages so it may switch an amp that has MIDI control. Does your amp have a switcher that came with it?? I would just use that.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
The amplifier I've been thinking of buying hasn't got Midi.. So I guess I would be stuck with the Pod X3 distortions, But by the sound of it, they seem to be good as well..

Hola amigo, acabo de adquirir yo un x3 pro, estaría interesado en un set estilo Yngwie o Blackmore. Puedes ayudarme?

How is the pod physically connected to the amp"? which output(s) do you use?
mglass222 2 years ago
Left mono ouput of X3L right into the amp guitar input.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
why turn the low-mid frequency range to lower than the low freq range?
mglass222 2 years ago
oh hey your playing with a thumbpick nice
brostomper 2 years ago

what is the different between line6 pod x3 and line6 pod x3 live?***
joachimekstrom 2 years ago
The X3-Live has the X3 unit contained in a floor model with switches. It also has more I/O options that the "table top" X3.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Your videos are very good. I bought POD X3 today and I dont know which output I should use. I need one output for combo and one for PA. thanks for answer.
imasterrr 2 years ago
ok, if u were to compare this line 6 multi effects processor to other big name processors like boss gt10 and tc eletronic g-system
how would the line 6 stack up?
some people have told me more guitar players gravitate toward the line 6 over the boss gt10
why do u think that is?
mrevolutions23 2 years ago
I think most of those people are using the X3 for direct recording or direct to console and not using an amp. For this X3 and the GT-10 for that matter is very good. I can't really say about the G-system cos' I don't have one of those.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
can u plz tell me that whether using a keyboard amp with the x3live or xt live is the best option to get its original sound? plz reply
RulesRedefined 2 years ago
No I am not using a keyboard amp in this demo but yes, a keyboard amp would be a great choice to get the full range of sound from one of these units.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
another great vid, cheers.
leepetersonuk 2 years ago
does your amp get a full sound coming out of it with this sort of setup? I have used other pedal boards and it usually sounds "ok" when you are playing alone; however, you will notice that many boards are missing the full sound. I think this is usually happens in high gain scenarios. It misses that "chug" and "umph"... I know you are supporter of the x3, what are you impressions in that regards?
rxbanditboy1112 2 years ago
I am currently using a tube amp with the Boss GT-10 (for effects ONLY). I have a very full sound at any volume. Don't play much real heavy stuff with my band but my amp has plenty gain if I need it!!
extremevideopro 2 years ago
hey for those who use
pod x3 live with line 6 spider 3 212
and are struggling to make it sound cool
ive made this great patch for rythm sound
its not gain abused
and it sounds great for alternative/progressive metal
it just kilss with double bass drum!!!
if you want i can give you the settings just send me a message or comment
bbtucci 2 years ago
@bbtucci I have a Spider III 75 watts and I don't know how to make it sound good with my new pod x3 live, Do you think it is a good combination the pod with that kind of amp, isn't it better to buy another kind of amp or is it possible to get a really good sound wth that amp?
pablo18sm 2 years ago
hey pablo18sm i left you a message with some tips, i left i in spanish, cause i noticed youre from costa rica, if you only speak english please let me know!!! and ill send you another message
greets from mexico!!!!
bbtucci 2 years ago
Having both is pointless in my opinion. They both have great amp modeling, but your pod is controllable live.
I recommend you sell your Spider, and get a keyboard amp (at least 30w).
nate1k 2 years ago
What Crate amp is this? I know it's a 30watt amp but what model, and what pre set do you have the amp at?
rockstartrey 2 years ago
This is a Crate RFX30. No longer available. I have the amp set clean and EQ controls set flat.

christopherAfrench 2 years ago
The spider three is like a modeling amp isn't it?

Sorry, but the Spider line are horrible amps.

will this work with the xt?
wowzerz1its2a3guitar 2 years ago
Yes you could dial it in on the XT and it should sound very close.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
@extremevideopro hey Glen, does the X3 Live have the looping effect?
guitarist6494 2 years ago
Well not exactly but using delay you can get some sort of loop going. I think a guy named Doyle Dikes did a video on that for Line6.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Glen, That PRS is gorgeous. Do you ever put any of your tones on L6 Custom Tone? I have a XTL that is still a blank canvas. I know it holds different tonal processing properties than the X3L but would love to get some of your tones or at least try to come close. Any ideas for a XTL? Thanks.
joshenos77 2 years ago
Thanks, I love that guitar. You can download my XT bundle from my blog and try out my tones. I also have XT sound samples. It's in the Patch Download area of my blog.

Can you plug the pod directly into the guitar input on your amplifier?
ady0211 2 years ago
sure you can
extremevideopro 2 years ago
have you used this at stage ?
If you have then is it good at stage ? Is it easy to use ?
Thanks :) Great video :)
FiedPosto 2 years ago
Yes I used it on stage for a year, about 65 shows. It worked well for me.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
i dont even have a POD. Yet i still enjoy watching you play and tweak to get an amazing tone at the end. its almost like watchin that show "how its made" only your making "guitar tones". keep it up glenn.
shaqdaddy11 2 years ago
are you using the clean channel on the crate if so what are your eq settings on the amp.also am i hearing more of the amp sound or the computer
scott9272 2 years ago
No that's all amp. The tone settings are all straight up except for a bass roll-off. Check the video at 3:17
extremevideopro 2 years ago
can you use this with a jcm900 tube amp
i love your sound.can you get that out of a amp also
scott9272 2 years ago
Yes you should be able to get a very good sound with that.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Hi Glenn, I I have hooked up my pod x3 live straight to my KRK Rokit 8 monitors and have tried a few different connections but fail in the tone department as far as getting a good quality sound close to the headphones sound, How do you setup your x3 to your monitors and do you find it sounding the same as you headphone sound?. I have tried hooking to the monitors from the phones out and it sounds the best but don't know if that's good for the unit or monitors. How do you hook your monitors?.
tonealicious 2 years ago
That won't hurt your unit or monitors at all. Make sure your output mode is set to Studio/Direct. With that setting you should hear in your monitors what you hear in your headphones.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Hi Glenn,
Nice demos you've posted here on you tube, I'm impressed with this unit & considering of purchasing this unit, My question is,,, does this unit come with harmonizing effects?
Thanks again & keep up the excellent demos.
axeman4567 2 years ago
No Harmonizer on the POD X3-Live.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
You can use the Pod X3-Live as a preamp right? So, you can plug it straight to a cabinet? (by cabinet I mean a single guitar speaker, I'm not sure that is the correct term, sorry)
AleifrLeifrson 2 years ago
no you will need some sort of amp. It could be a power amp it does not have to be a guitar amp but you do need power to drive the cabinet.

beatiful clean tone. can I have one more question? If I send to the pod guitar and bass Can I get two separate singals on outputs?
imasterrr 2 years ago
Yes you can plug both a guitar and bass to the inputs and route them each to there own separate output. Then using a dual tone you could have tone 1 for guitar and tone2 for bass. Pretty cool, that is one thing the X3-Live has over other brands for sure.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
thank you for information.
imasterrr 2 years ago
Hey, Glenn. I have a quick question. If you have four different sounds in the A, B, C, and D channels, do you need to have them on the same bank #? (in your case #26)
garageriffs 2 years ago
No you can have them in any bank you want. It's just that in the same bank you can switch freely between them without changing banks.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Hello i just set this patches on my ipod but one question how do you set the output? is it in the combo front or match studio or studio direct? etc
salomonfrias 2 years ago
I use the Studio/Direct output mode.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Thanks a lot for this video, brother. I'm picking one of these up soon and this cleared a ton of questions. I'll be sure to refer to you if/when I have questions about it.

hey extremevideopro,
I was wondering how recording with the POD works. I don't own it but I was thinking about owning it. I hear from you thats its incredibly good but I was wondering how do you record with it? Like if you want to record to make your own songs or somewhere among that. Would you need anything else besides the POD? Also I saw that the POD can record guitar, bass, and vocals but how would you record the drums?
yondaime597 2 years ago
the PODs act as an interface between ur instruments and the computer. u would need a diffrent set up for drum tracking.
washburn7x 2 years ago
So its glenn..! hey dude nice video im using your patches since long time im used to post on the L6 forums :D! keep up the good work dude!

It was awesome!
murmelswe 2 years ago
ok one stupid question.. This pedalboard is just the control switch for the red POD thing or it has all this on it (so you don;t need the red POD)? The reason i ask is cause i'm really intrested on that model and a friend in the past got confused and bought just the control of the red POD and then he had to buy the red POD too..
Mitraeltheprophet 2 years ago
This is the POD X3-Live. Then you have the POD X3. The X3-Live has the X3 contained inside the pedal board with more I/O's. The X3 is just the bean with no pedal board.
extremevideopro 2 years ago
Thnx a lot!!! I'm going to get this pedal soon!!!
