I was rolling my eyes at this recipe when my husband found it. What do I know, just the ham hock way of cooking greens, but these are excellent and so healthy! It took an hour to cook. I like it without the relish and nutmeg. My husband likes it with the relish added. Thank you for this great recipe!
Yea I actually tried this with a bit of everything (kale, collard, mustard greens) and it took only about an hour to be done. By the way the relish actually did make it taste oddly quite good!
Three hours is a bit much. I cooked a huge pot loaded to the top with kale, collard greens, and turnip greens, and it took under an hour to cook on medium heat. It was totally tender and done too.
I made this today, took almost four hours. It is as described, very delicious and cooks down quite well. I think perhaps I had my fire on TOO low for the first three hours, bumped it up a wee bit (still on low) and cooked it down for another hour. I tasted it before I added the relish, it was sorta bland. What difference the Sweet relish makes !!. I made some cornbread and served this dish over it.
This dish was VERY EASY to make. I suggest anyone trying to cook mustard greens try this
