Its a good movie..it tries too hard too squeezea great deal of history into a very short time frame for television. Debuted on CBS right after football!
Mustached guy implies there was a Republican connection between John Brown and said party. Actually very historically controversial. Officially, the party denied any involvement in the insurrection.
I live in Gettysburg, PA.......The Newspaper was NOT the Gettysburg Chronicle.....It was called the Gettysburg Compiler back at this time......BUT the Gettysburg Chronicle was a "catchier" name in the movie and easier to follow.....
Peck was a wonderful actor. Lincoln's famous irony and humour come over fantastic. Hardly ever that this aspect of his personality was so well accounted for. Many of Lincoln's great words often seem a bit melodramatic. Adding the humour, which goes for his deeply humanistic approach, Lincoln's words are given much more credibility
Wow, I know this is a movie, but it's really out there. One second he's in a farm, the next, he's at the Brown trial and mingling with Lincoln. I understand they want us to see history, but man, this is a stretch. This story is barely an hour into the first part and I have to turn off my sense of reality or I'll just get frustrated. That guy with the mustache isn't a character, he's just a plot device to get us into famous events.

Funny how the President just traveled openly, sans security back then.

@TheSchoolWorld His uncle owned a newspaper and gave him a job as an artist for the paper and "that guy with the mustache" was Abraham Lincoln.
