  • Surely the present is now!

  • Morrison is alive

  • Thanks for upload, really great song!

  • Joy Division = dark poetry

  • foundations that lasted the ages THEN RIPPED APART AT THEIR ROOTS

indeed, the real case, insofar as anything is real.

  • A soul that's bent on destruction struggles between right and wrong

  • i can't stop listening this song since i was 8 years old

  • I never dance, I can't I don't like and I don't want, but everytime I listen to this song some parts of my body start to move. And there's nothing I can do

  • Watching jellyfish swim with this song on is awesome

  • @Heyholetsgo601 dude....watch it stoned!

  • buying a Joy Division shirt was my best decision ever.

  • @MayIRemindYouSumtin oh... That sucks. That's really strange though. Hipsters, It's weird because I still don't quite get it yet all I know is that it's what I don't want to be.

  • what a beautiful picture......explains everything

  • @YourFriendHerbie san francisco must suck today with all the hipsters.

  • @thevillagepeople999 What exactly is a hipster? I don't know what it is but I get the feeling it's stupid. One of my friends said that it's original meaning came from listeners of jazz music. Now it's it seems as it's become "I listen to muse, im a hipster now!" Is that true?

  • @Kento617 well basically i guess its someone who listens to certain bands/music to look cool, instead of actually liking the music itself. people who are self conscious about the music they listen to. the clothing style and stuff is secondary.

  • @thevillagepeople999 Oh man, are you serious!? I feel offended by that lol. I went to indie music because the stuff on the radio just was satisfying me. I mean there are great bands like Foo Fighters I like listening to but I just don't hear the groups that really strike a chord with me. Even if they did, the songs would get overplayed and make me not like the artist as much as I used to. Example: 3 Days Grace, Godsmack, etc. sigh.... oh well, I'll keep searchin I guess, Thanks man

  • @Kento617 nah dude. if you like indie music then listen to it. i agree most crap on the radio is overplayed or sucks. i feel sorry for legit indie fans because hipsters give them a bad name.im more of a metalhead so i dont really know a whole a lot of indie. but i know sonic youth and husker du get a bad wrap sometimes just because their so called "fans" of today pretend to like them.

  • @thevillagepeople999 Both awesome bands! Hey, if you're a metalhead then how'd you find your way here? Just curious is all. Did one of your bands you listen to were influenced by Joy Division?

  • @Kento617 yeah i was getting into doom/gothic metal type stuff. i guess the band "Type o negative" introduced me to this kind of music.

  • @thevillagepeople999 and faggots

  • The bass in this just makes me...I dunno, the whole song just amazes me. Love Joy Division more all the time.

  • great song

  • hooky and stephen lay down a hypnotic rythm with bernard's icy guitar adding the right amount of urgency to ian's unforgettable lyrics THE OUTRO IS GOD

  • @alifelesscritic and your jibberish annoys me as well

  • @hellyfornication sigur ros- now THAT's jibberish - is there ANY band MORE ANNOYING ! cunt.

  • @alifelesscritic funny that you bring them up. Ágætis byrjun one of the best albums ever. it's partly icelandic, partly vonlenska, no jibberish. you know what the worst part is, we both like this epic song

  • can someone explain me the phrase "the present is well out of hand"?

    Thanks

  • @TheElectricRob

I think he's trying to say that the present is well out of hand.

  • @YourFriendHerbie Tks, it's always sweet to read memories.

  • Definitely my favorite joy Division song.

  • How music should be. The lyrics and the quality that Joy Division gives explains it all.

  • spooky ass song, joy division the shit. word!

  • This song reminds me to Christian Death (L).

  • Existence well what does it matter?

I'll exist on the best terms I can,

the past is now part of my future,

the present is well out of hand.

  • y e s ! ! !

  • @Chubachus surely uve gotta like Blue Monday and True Faith

  • who ever took that picture is amazing it sums up ians life in one shot AMAZING!!!

  • A beautiful and highly influential piece of music, this...

  • Happy Fucking Birthday Ian

  • @milovarquiel Now this should be on This Day In Music on VH1 classic!

  • Happy Birthday Ian

  • Did llewesa 100 vote 33 times? Or are there really that many people who just can't wrap their heads around the insane beauty that is this song? Very few bands in this world have truly spoken to my soul. Joy Division is one of them. They got me through a very dark time in my life may years ago and I occasionally come back to remember just how important an art form music can be.

  • Joy Division is beautiful

  • vivir es dormir , morir es despertar

  • Comment removed

  • @llewesa100 You really have nothing better to do but troll Joy Division videos? lol

  • cool band, who knew how to dress

  • Best fucking band of all time....Yeah an did see im live..yeah and I am old, 50yrs.

  • If you try and analyse humour it becomes unfunny. So please stop trying to analyse JD - No explanation is needed. If you dont get 'it', cant feel 'it', the passion, the genius, the raw emotion, then go and find find something else that you do get. There arent many in my book. The Beatles, Wagner, Miles Davies, and Nick Drake.

  • A struggle between right and wrong!

heart and soul, one will burn!

  • Comment removed

  • Good lord! Somebody give this guy some prozac!

  • @llewesa100 Then don't waste your energy on looking them up on youtube and listening to them?

  • @llewesa100 How about writing some lyrics of your own, and trying to become a lead singer yourself? Oh, and while you're at it, make sure you somehow develop epilepsy while you're at it, spend some time in a poor industrial city that's falling to pieces economically, work a shitty service job, suffer extreme spiritual and emotional torment, to the point of severe depression, and then tell me just how "self-obsessed/poseurish" you think Ian was.

  • @llewesa100 Also, I could give a shit less whether or not you like Joy Division or Ian or their music--each to his own--but you can go fuck yourself for judging him when you've never even MET the man. It's judgmental, hateful ignoramuses like yourself that he was raging against in the first place.

  • @llewesa100 well this band and I hate you

  • bassline sounds so much like 'all nightmare long' by metallica off their latest album

  • @knowwhatimean92 GTFO Metallifaggot

  • @knowwhatimean92: What did you say: New metal(icca) on the junk yard ?

  • So goddamn fantastic.

  • Such a waste of talent and a young life when he went!!

  • Ian's vocals on this give me the chills. Not much emotion- just a gloomy, world weary matter of factness that comes from having lived this song many times over.Robotic bass and drums, atmospheric shards of guitar and synths overcoated with Martin Hannett's icy sheen make this a JD classic.Heart and Soul . One will burn.

  • Fantastic

  • fuckin creative

    !!!

  • for all of you true Joy Division fans, the secret is safe with us ;)

  • this song still make me depresive and makes myself to kill...

  • @fixvelo: If music makes you depressive then don´t listen to it.

  • @Thevillagepeople777 You think it sounds off key? I never thought so but that is really interesting though. It's probably because he's singing high rather than the usual baritone.

  • One of my most Favorite Songs Ever!!!!!!

  • The best piece of art in the music history!

  • suicide swag

  • Comment removed

  • someone said its so fucking depressive....maybe...but to me is not at all cause all the depressive things are around me..in this fucking world....hate everywhere...joy division is piece of art and feelings which help me to feel like a human

  • @MrRashcroft you're right on that man. For me, this was the first band that I considered Perfect. What really struck a chord in me was how dark they sounded and yet, I felt like they were racing for the light. I think we all have felt that way before.

  • @MrRashcroft everytime I hear someone say JD are depressing I remember the Ian curtis quote from Control when asked if JD's music is beautiful he says some of it is, but music doesn't have to be beautiful. When I listen to JD i personally feel emotion and feelings and the lyrics kind of go with the music. For Example, in love will tear us apart i always smile when he says "why is it something so good, just can't function no more" and there's a little bridge in Disorder that is just immense :)

  • @MrRashcroft I do try to explain the same thing to everyone who thinks Joy Division are depressive! F*** them! People are stupid!

  • so so good

  • what was joy divisions original name before they named the band joy division

  • @yoshibombz warsaw

  • @yoshibombz Warsaw......

  • I used to try to ignore Joy Division because too many music snobs worshipped them. But they are just too fucking awesome.

  • @visualtonic You're so fuckin true! I have a Joy Division T-shirt but I possibly don't care if the world knows if i love JD or not. They're awesome and its feeds a motivation at a high level. Absolutely awesome!

  • @Pixieonthe7 I have 3 shirts :D, one Unknown Pleasures, Love Will Tear Us Apart and an Ian Curtis one

  • @ntn777 You lucky person you! =) *shakes fist in air* nah just kidding. Because of this group I always wanted to get a trench coat, a joy division shirt, and grow my hair out. I really liked how they played punk music basically in dress clothes and didn't go all sex pistols on us.(though I do like that band as well)

  • Fuck yeah

  • Why on earth have I never listened to this before?! I feel like I've been born again...

  • @8BlueSkies that's nice fanboy

  • @blocpartyband07 Ha! At least I'm not like, "I'm 14 and I love Joy Division, give me a medal" :-)

  • @8BlueSkies how bout some tea and crrumpets?

  • You Idiotic idividuals.. just listen...... the past is part of OUR future the present is well out of hand.. whatt will burn? he's telling you something.

  • @potchoker hell probably. It sucks how such a talent just threw his life away you know? I just wish he would of strove for the light and stayed with us.

  • @Kento617 He didn't throw his life away. His life threw him away and he lost it. It's not a case of "oh just weather the storm", his love was leaving him, his disability was effecting his ability to perform (which he also loved), everything he loved in life was going.

  • @DarylJCheetham "She lost Control." You are so right. Have you noticed that their albums were like a lifespan?

1st. An Ideal for Living (the EP)

2nd. Unknown Pleasures( the picture was a dying star, think about it.)

    3rd . Closer(It's a funeral)

and last it was all just Still, the posthumous 4th

  • the truth is in between.isn`t it always?

  • One of the best songs ever made...

  • ya rock on

  • Ian died for us. Is he Jesus. Than he cane back in the late 50 (when Ian has born). For me he never died. His voice went over me everytime i play the records.(no cd) He was genius he create he devellop. Witches burns and my soul burns. My ears can hear and my eyes still see More drums please.

  • @ronaldvanderkleij get lost you fuckin psycho

  • Ian died for us. Brave genius, Nasty death. Sorry, random words fill my head as I listen to this stuff. More proof that I'm alive. Ignore my poetry, it is blather compared to Ian's mind. I miss him, yet never knew him. What a sad loss, if you look at it like that.

  • @classicalsasha I remember on 24 hour house party he said that David Bowie sung about dieing young but was 30. What ian said in his music, he meant it. I wish he didn't mean, he would still be here then.

  • Few songs transcend time and eras. This will.

  • this song to me is about white people..

    ."soulless and bent on destruction"

"an abyss that laughs at creation, a circus complete with all fools"

"when savagery turns all good reason, theres no turning back no last stand"

  • @blocpartyband07 fuck you

  • @blocpartyband07 fuck u2

  • @blocpartyband07 so what if it is...anyway you're totally missing the point. If you knew anything about his illness and what its like going through it topped with the circumstances in his life, then the words would make more sense...

  • Ian's not dead - you just have to press "play."

  • @marxistRAGE Your short, but beautiful statement moved me to tears. Thank you.

  • @marxistRAGE I like that. It's true for all artist who pass away too soon. I just wish he would've kept going, you know?

  • AHHHHHHH I CANT STOP LISTENING TO JOY DIVISION! I LOVE THEM !!(:

  • does existence exist at all?

    here are some young men!

    top post! and THUMBS UP!

  • he was my exorcism . . my sacrificial lamb . . .

    proof of my alienation . . .

    i was not . . .

    alone.

  • @ertmanis seek help

  • His Music Has

    Taken It's Toll

    Into My

    Heart And Soul

  • @Gamer606 seek help

  • My favorite JD song !

  • IAN LIVES IN MY HEART AND SOUL !!!!!! MAD SAD

  • ian lives in my soul

  • da dove vengono i radiohead....il mito si costruisce su altro mito...

  • Morning Bell sounds similar to Heart And Soul.

  • this song puts me to sleep, but in a good way...it's HYPNOTIC

  • I love this song, JD brilliant band. I am sorry that I could not get to their concerts

  • I just fuckin dont know what better sounds here...Bass,guitar,drums or unbeliveable Ian's voice! Can be described with only one word - PERFECTION!

  • I'm only a zygote and i love Joy Division. I don't understand the other zygotes that listen to Justin Bieber and other music. Why wasn't I born yet.

  • ian was very depressed, he was slowly dying from his epilepsy fits at shows. 2 days after he killed himself would have been a remarkable experience because the band wouldve started touring in america. its a pity how the best are taken from us the fans.

  • i found my soulband ... !

  • @jimcamel666 I feel you man. Though Nirvana is my #1 favorite, Joy Division makes me want to reconsider. Oh well, Joy Division is my 2nd favorite and im glad I found this band!

  • @Kento617 I was like U at one point! NIRVANA was my number 1 untill I bought UNKNOWN PLESURES & CLOSER now NIRVANA are soo far behind! trust this band is so much more, Kurt killed himself over problums he created himself ie Herion etc.. Ian had real life problums not rock start problums he had a morgage a failing marrige a very severe illness, people can relate to Ian much better!

  • @handsomedevil98 Why do you have to be right man lol? The only thing Ian did was drink.

  • @Kento617 Yeah oh & smoke abit of weed lol!!

  • @handsomedevil98 hahaha yeah. Man he is my favorite frontman of all time! I love how he dances.

  • How the song starts!!!

    Just fucking Great!!!!

  • @BestRockMusics One of the best bass rifts ever! So simple yet so heavy.

  • i like this photo of him sitting, with his head down...i mean, the person on the photo (IAn) is not happy, obviously, unless it`s a pose. Which i somehow doubt.

  • Inside figt in the human......comlicated but beauty man. Interesting song....at first time...and second time....and another listening....THX J.D.

  • The sheer insightful meaningfulness & meaninglessness of the human condition, the fractured sense of self in an ever isolated existence and the futility of material ambition, all this and his tortured howl together with the strident sound landscape sticks to you like Naplam. Once heard it is part of your soul forever...

  • i discovered Joy D 15 years ago..i was just becoming a student, in Zagreb..my 1st year, and all of this helped come through the boredom and senselessness of boring everyday life, cause i was feeling down after the difficult break up...

  • I produce elector music, and discovered that band not mroe than 1 year, so it is intersting that i found some matches between me and tham, i just love that way they sound

  • nick yes it's stuff that sticks to you....you're probably a big New Order fan too, yes?

  • I like Huey Lewis's version much better.

  • @colourmade I understand you but there was pop music back then too! Right now you just have to look around a bit harder to find the good new sounds that are appearing in our times. A Joy Division fan here but not giving up on modern music. Try some of your local venues, some great stuff out there. After all, thats just how these guys started.
