  • @Nefertari8 You can get the keen games 1-5 on Steam for just $5. :)

  • 1:38 Easter egg, id software knew they were going to be idsoftware before they were (first they were on Softdisk) so they put an easter egg on the top left corner 8D

  • If you like the keen games you might like Magic Pockets by the Bitmap Brothers..

  • 5 people don't understand the Standard Intergalactic Alphabet

  • Sick!!! I have logged many hours on the keen games. I had the translations written down also..

  • You know, writing signs that say "die" is really a lot more effective when they can read it

  • you love this game too :D HAPPY

  • I played this game in 1st grade, oh god get me back to those times :D

  • "And I think the moral of the story is...DON'T TAILGATE!!!" LMAO

  • You should really get more publicity.

  • I must've played through this game a dozen times when I was a kid, and I had no idea that you could kill the Vorticons. I feel pretty dumb now.

  • @Reptomon lol i know! and i always thought they were wolves too xD

  • I absolutely love this game. Childhood favourite. Until now I didn't realise you could kill the wolves! They've haunted my nightmares for 15 years.

  • this is my kidhood

  • Holy cow I completely forgot about this game and then I saw a bit in a different video. One of my first PC games. Wow. Amazing.

  • i love the old school sounds. lol

  • Reedwulf needs to make more videos :-)

  • born in 1985, this is my first ever game I played on PC. And I still love the game 21 years later :D

  • The first computer game I remember playing was Duke Nukem Shrapnel city 1991. But this was one of the earliest. Commander Keen 1, marooned on Mars, is a mere preamble compared to Commander Keen 2, the Earth Explodes. And that is alot easier than the levels in Commander Keen 3, Keen Must Die, but all but three of the levels in that one are optional.

  • One you get used to the jumping it is a super fun game.

  • I think I remember my first game. it was ether Doom 2 or Mario :D

  • MAAAAAAAAAN I was trying to remember what this game from my childhood was for years and just today I figured it out!

  • I LOVE this game. The world could use a new Commander Keen pc/video game. Now that Apogee classic Duke Nukem Forever is ACTUALLY coming out, maybe we can finally get a new Commander Keen!

  • @Crash6000 Well, there is a fan-made Commander Keen trilogy, The Universe Is Toast. It's pretty good, from what I've played of it. Try googling it some time if you really find yourself with a Command Keen craving. :P

  • @Crash6000 i think in doom 2 you find the corpse of commander keen =/

  • Keen was trying to explore Mars. But "The villain" (Spoilers not included for this vid) brainwashed the Vorticons to steal Keen's stuff.

  • Commander keen was my second, Cosmo was my first. I use to play them on the computer downstairs(It's windows 3.1 and still runs!), Keen was my favorite of the two. Now I play it upstairs. Or watch you play it, because you are full of laughs

  • hay yo you know when you slow yo roll and you roll up on dem hoes you can bust a nut when bust out wid dat but you know what im sayin ,,,, dam g its time for a spraying so i sware to god by the mosh in my mouth thats dats the way we role in da dirty south( im criminly insain)

for real you should put some metal on threre

  • First game i ever played and its still fuckin badass

  • I remember playing this when I was 9 and I was scared to death by those two eyed monsters. I can't believe that I played this along with Putt-putt...Pocahantas the game, Freddy the fish and DOOM when I was younger...

  • Sorry for the question, but how do you fire lasers and hop on the pogo stick? I have the game on my PC but am at a loss (the F1 help section isn't working for some reason :/ )

  • Don' tailgate, and also, conversely, don't cut in front of someone---that's even fucking worse.

  • Oh wow, super nostalgia!!!!! I LOVED these games growing up!!!

  • But the Vorticon looks for friendly ... Cool game.

  • Ah men. This is freakin awesome. Thanks mate!

  • "If memory serves, it's pretty tough."

Actually, Keen 1 is the easiest of the Vorticon trilogy; it is the only one I can beat without God mode.

  • ha good vid and commentary, this was also probably the first game ive ever played as a kid..i grew up without a nintendo!

  • it looks like they used the duke nukem 1 engine awsome!

  • you are a little funny but it my first time seeing this game but the game looks dam good

  • i want dis game my dad has # 4 and my mom wont let me buy the package on steam casue she doesnt like internet buying maybe il lget it for my bday

  • The final Vorticon takes an immense number of shots. It's easier to just drop the ceiling on him.

  • absolute great. its strange but people seem to have a real deep emotional connection to their childhood´s pc games. so do i. all these memories...as a child you have such a strong phantasie so that you experienced games like this in a really really strong way

  • this brings back memories

  • this was my first game too.

I still have the floppys for all the episodes somewhere in my attic I think.

  • this game is fucking awesome!!!, i prefer the sequel versions although its damn good!

  • That was the first game I ever played, too!!

  • i'm totally a tailgater

  • Ditto on the first game I ever played. It seemed ridiculously hard back then but that didn't stop me from playing hours on end XD

  • I LOVE this guy's stuff! :-)

  • Quick question, do any of the Keen games have music? I just want to know if something is wrong with my game.

  • @bambadep Yes, Keens four, five, and six have music. Keens one, two, three, and Dreams do not. Hope that helps.

  • Great LP so far. :)

When I first found some of the many DOS games that I played when I was a little kid, it pretty much was the same for me, I was excited to play games like Commander Keen, Duke Nukum etc. again.

Anyway, I notice on your channel that you only have the LP going from Keen 1 - 6, but not 7 and 8 (and 9 when it eventually is finished), are you planning on doing those any time soon?

  • man,i hope you had an insurance for your car.

  • is it true that if you get all the books, on your second playthrough you can read all the signs?

  • I'm going to say no. The books are titled "Kant", as in the philosopher, likely supposed to be pertinent to Keen's high IQ only and their only purpose, to the best of my knowledge, is score.

To read the signs, you'll just have to find the decoder board in Keen 3 and translate them all manually, I'm afraid.

  • my first game 2

  • The best song to play this game to is Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay. yes its techno, yes you have heard it, yes it is amazing, yes it brings back memories of playing this game. pass the cloth and then try it. to this game

  • The tailgating commenting was.. amusing. XD

But argh, it's an old LP I know but thanks for posting it. Commander Keen were among the first platformers I played on the computer so this brings a LOT of nostalgia. Lovely.

  • I'm glad. Nostalgia and amusement are the primary purposes of these LPs.If they instill such feelings, I suppose I did something right. ^^

Thanks for the comment. Always a pleasure to see someone else who uses full sentences and whatnot in comments, let alone with a familiar name.

  • ha the irony.... OHHH A POGO STICK!!!!

    HAHAHAHA

  • i remember playing this at school :P

    great game

  • I also found it on steam, I just got done beating it. I played this game when I was three and four years old, I only had the first episode. After playing this I got into wolfenstein 3d! I was a little young for that game but hey, I turned out fine, I only have one felony.

  • I actully know a glitch for the first wolf or vorticon what ever its cool

  • Oh wow, such nostalgia. I played this when I was like, 4-5. :O

  • It plays sounds from the cpu :D:D

I have an old win 95 pc to play dos games on :):):D

  • Oh awesome! I always thought it had been 4, 5 and 6 of the Keen games we had as a kid, but seeing the title screen for this brought all those memories flooding back! :D I remember playing this, and getting incredibly frustrated with bits where you couldn't get where you wanted... Ah, the childish anger. :)

  • There's a big message board with a lot of player-made levels and mods for this game as well.

I have played this game and its sequels many times.

    Ah, I am a nerd.

  • I thought it did have music; only the music is from the PC speaker instead. Not sure if I remember correctly :P

  • Holy shit.... I can't begin to tell you how long ago it was when I first played this, and I never knew until this day that you could kill the vorticons.

  • I specifically remember this as the best Commander Keen. I didn't understand the monster identification bullshit in Goodbye, Galaxy. Did I ever beat this? Also, the two-eyed aliens scared the FUCK out of me when I was a kid. o:

  • anybody got commander keen 6 on the original floppies?

if so can you make a copy for me? please

I can give you keen 1-5 original copy from the original floppies

    Thx

  • actually keen was on mars investigating mars and then the vorticons stole his ship parts while he wasn't looking

  • anyone who knows where to get commander keen 6? :)

  • Yeah, just search thru the Pirate Bay.

  • The level with the pogo stick has a huge secret section above the lights. You have to jump onto the hidden black platforms (just one pixel on their edge is visible)

  • i love Commander Keen..... 1st game i ever played

  • ReedWulf thanks for true nostalgia blast. I saw this last time more than a decade ago when I was around 5. That dog dressed in blue gave me nightmares. Such a horrible jumping psychopath! I witnessed true horror upon realising that I can't jump it to death.

  • I'm liking these. You're a lot better at these "let's play" commentaries than other people here.

  • I still have 1-5 on the original floppies. I still play them from time to time.

This brings back so many memories.

  • i love this game. i might do an lp on this game to in honor to you reedwulf :)

  • This was the irst game i played to. or one of the commander keen series.

  • lol i hate tailgateors

  • thank you for doing this

  • whats tailgathing?

  • keen doesn't wor on windows vista, The screen turn around :(

  • i love this game. i cant play it because my comp. doesen't have floppy disk drives. this brings back good memories

  • Well, there is an alternative. Steam (gaming network) offers episodes 1-5 of Commander Keen for just 5$ (for the package of all five games). No floppy drive required.

  • oh sweet

  • wait 2 more questions what is this gaming network is it like a website or something? and 2 do i need a dos box?

  • If you Google "Steam", its homepage should be the first option. Click the green download link to install Steam and make an account on the website. Once Steam is on your computer, if you buy the Keen Collection from it, it automatically runs the game off DosBox and does all of the configuring and whatnot for you. No need to do anything but shell out the five dollars for it and click the launch button.

  • ReedWulf ,I'm sorry about replying to your comment after 1 whole year, but what does "tail gate" mean ?

  • To tailgate in a car is to drive too close to the vehicle in front of you. Specifically, so close that if they were to break suddenly, there would be no possible way for you to stop in time and, therefore, crash into them.

  • you can download episode 1, 4 and (I think) 6 from the commander keen website for free

  • I believe six is on another website as freeware, but I wanted the whole collection, not just those three.

Nostalgia and all that, I suppose.

  • man your like a better version of deceased crab. YOU ROCK!!

  • I was also glad that ID published these on Steam.

    ´ -´)/

I played them a lot in the oldern days. I feel like beating it today. - Like you say, it's pretty tough, Haven't really beaten them all yet.

  • Yeah. First one's tough, second one's vicious, thrid one's... Well... A joke compared to the rest of the trilogy... <<;

But, yeah, good stuff. I highly recommend the series, all in all.

  • how can i fire with the gun

    ????? help plz
