1:38 Easter egg, id software knew they were going to be idsoftware before they were (first they were on Softdisk) so they put an easter egg on the top left corner 8D
The first computer game I remember playing was Duke Nukem Shrapnel city 1991. But this was one of the earliest. Commander Keen 1, marooned on Mars, is a mere preamble compared to Commander Keen 2, the Earth Explodes. And that is alot easier than the levels in Commander Keen 3, Keen Must Die, but all but three of the levels in that one are optional.
I LOVE this game. The world could use a new Commander Keen pc/video game. Now that Apogee classic Duke Nukem Forever is ACTUALLY coming out, maybe we can finally get a new Commander Keen!
@Crash6000 Well, there is a fan-made Commander Keen trilogy, The Universe Is Toast. It's pretty good, from what I've played of it. Try googling it some time if you really find yourself with a Command Keen craving. :P
Commander keen was my second, Cosmo was my first. I use to play them on the computer downstairs(It's windows 3.1 and still runs!), Keen was my favorite of the two. Now I play it upstairs. Or watch you play it, because you are full of laughs
hay yo you know when you slow yo roll and you roll up on dem hoes you can bust a nut when bust out wid dat but you know what im sayin ,,,, dam g its time for a spraying so i sware to god by the mosh in my mouth thats dats the way we role in da dirty south( im criminly insain)
I remember playing this when I was 9 and I was scared to death by those two eyed monsters. I can't believe that I played this along with Putt-putt...Pocahantas the game, Freddy the fish and DOOM when I was younger...
Sorry for the question, but how do you fire lasers and hop on the pogo stick? I have the game on my PC but am at a loss (the F1 help section isn't working for some reason :/ )
absolute great. its strange but people seem to have a real deep emotional connection to their childhood´s pc games. so do i. all these memories...as a child you have such a strong phantasie so that you experienced games like this in a really really strong way
When I first found some of the many DOS games that I played when I was a little kid, it pretty much was the same for me, I was excited to play games like Commander Keen, Duke Nukum etc. again.
Anyway, I notice on your channel that you only have the LP going from Keen 1 - 6, but not 7 and 8 (and 9 when it eventually is finished), are you planning on doing those any time soon?
I'm going to say no. The books are titled "Kant", as in the philosopher, likely supposed to be pertinent to Keen's high IQ only and their only purpose, to the best of my knowledge, is score.
To read the signs, you'll just have to find the decoder board in Keen 3 and translate them all manually, I'm afraid.
The best song to play this game to is Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay. yes its techno, yes you have heard it, yes it is amazing, yes it brings back memories of playing this game. pass the cloth and then try it. to this game
But argh, it's an old LP I know but thanks for posting it. Commander Keen were among the first platformers I played on the computer so this brings a LOT of nostalgia. Lovely.
I also found it on steam, I just got done beating it. I played this game when I was three and four years old, I only had the first episode. After playing this I got into wolfenstein 3d! I was a little young for that game but hey, I turned out fine, I only have one felony.
Oh awesome! I always thought it had been 4, 5 and 6 of the Keen games we had as a kid, but seeing the title screen for this brought all those memories flooding back! :D I remember playing this, and getting incredibly frustrated with bits where you couldn't get where you wanted... Ah, the childish anger. :)
Holy shit.... I can't begin to tell you how long ago it was when I first played this, and I never knew until this day that you could kill the vorticons.
I specifically remember this as the best Commander Keen. I didn't understand the monster identification bullshit in Goodbye, Galaxy. Did I ever beat this? Also, the two-eyed aliens scared the FUCK out of me when I was a kid. o:
The level with the pogo stick has a huge secret section above the lights. You have to jump onto the hidden black platforms (just one pixel on their edge is visible)
ReedWulf thanks for true nostalgia blast. I saw this last time more than a decade ago when I was around 5. That dog dressed in blue gave me nightmares. Such a horrible jumping psychopath! I witnessed true horror upon realising that I can't jump it to death.
Well, there is an alternative. Steam (gaming network) offers episodes 1-5 of Commander Keen for just 5$ (for the package of all five games). No floppy drive required.
If you Google "Steam", its homepage should be the first option. Click the green download link to install Steam and make an account on the website. Once Steam is on your computer, if you buy the Keen Collection from it, it automatically runs the game off DosBox and does all of the configuring and whatnot for you. No need to do anything but shell out the five dollars for it and click the launch button.
To tailgate in a car is to drive too close to the vehicle in front of you. Specifically, so close that if they were to break suddenly, there would be no possible way for you to stop in time and, therefore, crash into them.
