  • Wow, I love all the people criticizing how the bike doesn't have a chain and another pedal, which would be simply answered if they READ THE DESCRIPTION.

  • Where is chain and left pedal?

  • damn cool bike

  • it doesn't have a chain?

  • It would be great to make it to a wheelchair if you would fall off the bike and break a leg or something.

  • it doesn't have any chain and it has only one pedal ... UNUSELESS

  • diggin the left fork.

  • yeah but how pedaling works... to me they just showed how he sits on the bike

  • my dreams of being a pokemon trainer would be complete with this bike...

  • Beautiful bike. Can't wait for it to hit the shops

  • Ridiculously cool.

My studio project right now for third year ID program at NJIT is to design a foldable/collapsible bicycle and our professor had everyone watch your video when we came across it last week.

  • Who saids folding bike only reserve for commuter?

If you want fold speed, get Bike Friday Tikit

If you want compact, get a Brompton

If you want a compact mtb get then this one! It more compact and complicated than the If mode

  • Wao sweet!

  • i think this bike is weak :)

  • UAU!!! SHOW!!!

  • WTF!?! Where is the left crank and pedal???

  • I wanna by this truly. But my only doubt is the strength.

  • cool! flipping the wheels that way for folding is a great idea--gives it a nice smooth silhouette when folded, and of course allows you to roll it...yep-- i want one! :)

  • How long does it take to fold it? 10 minutes?

For a foldable bike folding time is as important as folded size.

So this could be a nice transformers character but not a nice folding bike I guess.

The one called Strida is 10 times better.

  • @escanmek If you like ride a clown bike. I want a bike that a grown man would ride not a little girl.

  • @escanmek Bike friday bikes fold and unfold crazy fast

  • @MincedFeet yes, that's also a good one. but Strida, on the other hand, also have no screw mechanism for folding. I'm an industrial designer and i really have respect such realistic and radical solutions.

And, as i said before, this one is not a product i guess. for instance, one of the most important problems of foldable bikes is the chain mechanism and it has no detail for this problem. this is just cool. like bumble bee :)

  • @escanmek The screws do seem like they would be a pita. The strida looks easy to carry around when folded but people look really squirrely riding them. Is it the geometry or a novice rider?

  • @MincedFeet screw is an old mechanism. in product design it is generally used for fixing (such as modular systems).i mean screw is not that suitable for kind of on/off mechanisms. you also lose time, and more importantly it doesnt matter what material used it gets erorded. geometrical solutions are more prefered for portable parts.

also as it mentioned strida's concept is city bike. it's right strida is not suitable for long distance rides. but actually it is not that uncomfortable as it looks.

  • @escanmek also i know you dont have a misunderstanding but let me say i do not mean bike friday is a bad designed bike. if we look at its details we can see similar design soluitons. i just like strida because of its upside down solution. changed geometry is really works and makes it impressive. it is really hard to redesign. at least i tried to design a city bike for 5 months (met strida during this process) but although i had lots of works and researches i couldn't find a better solution :)

  • fake and gay

  • I do like the ida of a folding bike you can wheel like that, but I have to agree with the rest, seems a large oversight not to make one with a chain.

    what is its weight?

  • Its Fake!! NO chain and no Cardan. One Pedal Disapered.

  • it is fake, or where is the chain

  • ahah it dosent evan have a chain can you evan peadl it?

  • nice project. but this bicycle has not chain. so how can you move it. push it ?

there is rack on the wheels. but hwere is front rack ?

  • @iLolek10 ye agree he cant peadl it so its use less

  • cool!

  • Interesting idea. Please note that this is just an idea, it is not a bicycle that is on the market, this is a long way from being in production. There are government standards that need to be met which don't look "meet-able" with this concept. Great use of full-size wheels though. If a full-size folder is of interest, a great line of bikes is made by Montague (montaguebikes). All have full-size wheels. If small wheels are of interest, we suggest Bromptons (brompton).

  • holy crap i need something like that sooo bad!

  • creativity knows no bounds

  • some one went crazy with the computer aided design. but it is really cool!

however I notice you only get one petal ):

  • no wayyyy thats too crazy!

  • But the question is, will it blend?

  • congratulations dom, is a nice and useful proyect that you made!! if you have some plans or anything i like to have a copy. even i'm a electronic ingenieer i like to see proyects tat combine ecology, human powererd vehicles and technology maybe gathering some of them can make any better !! thanks in advance and go on woth your proyect, has a LOT of future

  • fantastic

  • unfortunately it can't move by pedals

  • Brilliant and elegant. What a design.

  • The seat is shifted to the side? Seems uncomfortable, very nifty folding system though. PRetty sure that a thief wouldn't grasp it in time to not be caught.

  • @BrainSeepsOut I don't think the seat is shifted to one side, I think it's the frame that is shifted. It looks like the handlebars are inline with the seat.

  • Hi, work in a way for this to be mounted on something so you can use it at home for exercise and you would attract a whole new audience of fitness fans who can also use it to exercise at home on days when they can't use it outside! :) Good job!

  • dont ride it down a hill cause if u didnt do something right then....well u know lol

  • Neat idea, but too many joints to work themselves loose after commuting on potholes and cobblestone.

  • hey can i buy the final version, how much n were can i buy it. hopefully it doesnt cost more then 600$.im looking for transportation to work n i like that bike, can it ride throught rought terrain?

  • it looks really cool when you fold the front wheel

  • that is epic

  • 0:50 guys looks like hes running from the cops

  • on production?

  • Great bit of industrial design there.

  • WOW !!! SUPERR !!!

  • By far the best folding bike I've ever seen.

Full size wheels and easy to carry when folded up makes it a winner.

  • LOL EPIC WIN

  • Awesome folding Dandy Horse. Will it fit into a 62 linear inch suitcase when completed? Why not a shaft drive? Well, because there is a fold between the crank and the rear hub. Good luck with the hydrolics, but think about compromising if it doesn't work out. Shame not to use that fold on something the world could ride on and pack away.

  • You need to go on the TV show "Shark Tank". They will love it and give you funding to go into production.

  • Human ingenuity at its finest. Brilliant! Looking forward to seeing the production model.

  • does it have a speed thing like the mountains bikes

  • im poor why why ???

  • i want one

  • すげー。カッコいい。ほしい。畳んでもタイヤで転がして運べるのがすばらしい。

  • best looking folding bike i've seen. only problem i can see is no gears which would be super annoying for some people. but then again there have to be some draw-backs.

  • it's a prototype. there isn't even a second pedal.

  • this is the most practicle folding bike ive seen in terms of size, comfort while riding, and its compact size when folded the only bike that rivals yours is sinclairs "a" bike which isnt half as comfortable. when thease come up for sale i want one

  • GREAT EVERYTHING! The only thing that upsets me is that I'm predicting it will cost a lot of money and therefore I won't be able to buy one.

It is a pity that nowadays the Bauhaus ideal, were designers sought to find a way to produce functional and affordable design, available to the masses, seems to be lost.

    Bling bling!

  • sweet. you should have it patented. btw, how many gears?

  • I'm fairly certain this doesn't allow you to pedal... so the answer to your question is none. The lack of chain is what allows it to fold so smoothly.

  • @rsuriyop doesn't look geared

  • This is so inventive and practical. I love your design.

  • I'm 5 seconds in and I just want to know how I can order my own.

  • Where's the other pedal? It got lost during unfolding of the bike

  • Is this a prototype?Coz I haven't seen this guy pedal..Where is the chain? It could work on the principal of hydraulics, but only can imagine one speed, otherwise the bike would be too heavy..The conept is fantastic, folding mechanism is very intriguing..But I can't see the way it could work...

  • WHERES THE CHAIN

  • Very tricky folding system. Nice idea, really

  • THERE IS NO CHAIN!!!.... no way it can work.....

  • "Hydraulics (on this prototype, others have chains and belts).

I completely agree that hydraulic drive is not going to wipe traditional chains off the face of the earth. I am sorry but just couldn't resist, as this is just a forward looking concept bike ."

  • in side the body between the pedals and the wheel?

  • this man wants to show that is really easy to fold. But if you look at 0:48 (that stuff jumping on th bike) you realise that there are footage tricks

  • THIS THING IS SICK WITH IT!!! Lefty fork? wow!!! nice design!

  • also .. this bike would be t3h awesomez with a belt drive... easy to fold a belt, right? well .. there ARE a LOT of idiots in the world, so we'll see.. but thankfully idiots won't buy something like this. BELT DRIVE THIS BAMF!!!!

  • I would buy this, absolutely!

  • that would be good to use except for the extreme biker..i think it might fold on them while trying to do a trick...but that would be a good invention for travling...(not far)

  • Brilliant!

  • Bicycle manufacturers, pick up this concept and sell it.

One of the biggest problems with a bike is when you have it somewhere remote and need to pedal it back despite the weather being horrible or a bunch of other hindrances. Previously the only way to do this would have been getting a car with a bike rack and then taking it back that way. (You can't take bikes on buses in Sweden unless you pay a lot extra). This would be really awesome for excursions where you know you won't be pedaling back.

  • Hey, if this thing gets a safety ok, I would ride it!

  • and how are you pedal ???

  • You use the pedals...

  • but do not see the chain of transmission

  • OH NO! its a Decepticon!

  • It is promising, but He never actually uses it in the normal way, jumping curbs, hitting bumps at high speed or pedaling. I hope he gets the fully functional bike on youtube soon. If it works and is durable, it would be great.

  • You Rock Dude! Keep Up The Good!

  • It's an interesting concept, but it will never be practical for the average commuter to use. Having a one-sided fork is a structural problem, and a folding pedal just screams disaster....And what happens to the chain when this thing is folded up?

  • The ones sided fork isn't a problem, they've been around for a while. Look up Cannondale's Lefty. I can't see where the pedal folds in this video, it looks like one side detaches, but I'll take your word on whatever you see. As far as the chain goes, there isn't one, not that can be seen at least. With that said, however, I can't tell what drive train this thing uses, and we never see the rider pedaling. Somewhat suspicious of an unfinished project.

  • If you read the info he says he uses a hydraulic drive and that he was missing a sprocket when this film was shot.

  • A one sided fork is a structural problem? Ever heard of cannondale? They've been using them for years just fine.

  • You saw a chain?! That's funny because I didn't see a chain. nor did I see him Pedaling. Nor did I see any gears.

  • A single sided fork is not a structural problem.. Im sure you're aware of the Cannondale lefty... Its more then capable of absorbing the abuse mountain bikers put it through

  • Look at old footage of cedric gracia racing 4x .... he PUNISHES lefty forks and they stand up to it! many aircraft also use a similar design.

  • Exactly what I was getting at... & good point about the aircraft landing gear!

  • what an amazing design.

  • sugoi

  • 折りたたんだ状態から自転車の状態に戻す時、部品の一部が落ちてるように見えてしょうがないんだけど

  • your bike is just perfect..

  • best of luck tomorrow dom hope it goes well.

  • It`s a handmade concept! Chain is not necessary to show an idea.

  • If you took the time to read the description properly you would see that he mentions it uses a hydraulic system not chains.

  • Awesome design, I've seen a few variations on a folding bike but yours is the only one that really blew me away. I love the way the front tire folds in & out.

I am a graphic designer but always been a fan of industrial design, I hope your design is picked up and makes it to production.

  • That is truly an amazing bike. I would love to have one of those. Good Luck on the prototyping and marketing. Love to see it at a store somewhere

  • great invention but did you lose a bit at 0.47? seems to fall from the bike.

  • Good work mate!

  • very high Nift value ;-) I love the way the front wheel tucks in as it folds.

  • Dom, congrats on a fabulous idea! I posted your vid on my blog: kids who inspire. Good luck with this. Seems like it could really take off.

  • i can just imagin a chase scene, and this guy is setting up his bike for like, ten minuets when the badguys are getting away, lol.

  • Why not make it with a toothed belt drive till you sort out something else ? You could roll the belt up and put it in your pocket or something. The frame joints could be used to tension it as you assemble it.

  • Wow, this is really amazing! I want one! Too bad you are in the UK. If you were in Washington (USA) I'd love to shoot a badass vid for you! Good luck with the future prototypes!

  • Hey Dom nice concept, This is the kind of idea that spawns a million more. Good luck in the next stage of the competition. For me to get this far is great.

  • You don't need to change speeds. We got on perfectly well before gears, and the introduction of them has coddled. I get on perfectly well with my fixed-gear BMX.

  • For short distance or doing stunts in the local park maybe. For any serious use, e.g. commuting gears (or some other variable ratio drive) are pretty much essential if you want to keep up any kind of reasonable speed.

  • I cycle to and from school every day and sometimes cycle 5 miles along roads on my BMX with no difficulty. I'm not bothered if you need to put in a bit of extra effort to keep your speed up. It gives me good exercise.

  • Wow that's so cool!!!!...Yeah I'm gonna see these around pretty soon

  • looks good and all but i dont think u can really ride on it unless someone pushes u or u r downhill.

..no chain plus between the pedals and each wheel the frame "bends" so it can fold so there isnt either an "inner chain" or whatever make this work.

...i could be wrong but thats what i see according to the video.

  • Sweet bike. I knew him before he was famous.

  • wow!

  • where is chain? how to change speeds?

  • (For the missing pedal issue, see the info.)

Very interesting design. Maybe a faster transformation on the overlapping tubes - springloading them (with a press-in unlock stud) rather than making them have to be screwed/unscrewed?

I like the hydraulic drive on the prototype. It simplifies the look and focuses attention on the transformation aspect.

How well does it hold together? i.e. if transporting it as airline luggage, would it partially unfold due to vibration?

  • Brilliant design!

  • i want one :)

  • Comment removed

  • A longer handle for pulling it behind you when folded would be nice, but still, very cool.

  • Please make a special Transformers edition that makes the transforming sound from the cartoon.

  • Cool!!!

  • awesome!

  • it's beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • there is no transmission.... fool

  • from the guardian blog..."his prototype was designed to feature an internal hydraulic system which uses oil pumped through tubes in the frame to power the back wheel. "

  • BS.

The frame is convertable, so there's no enough isolation for oil to be pumbed without loss)

  • in the beginning there's 2 pedals but then one of them disappears somewhere... whats up with that?

  • カッケー!!欲しいなこれ。6万円台なら買うョ。

  • jet propulsion pack not included

  • Assuming it's cheap enough, I would definitely buy one of these.

  • Great concept. Too bad there's no chain or sprocket. PITA going uphill w/o those.

  • Nice job, is a folding chain in development to make it move ?

  • wow! I might even swap my Brompton for one - looks a lot easier to lug around folded than a Brompton

  • of cource Strida is the best on my opinion

but this is very very interesting

    you get to must space

    and it is 26 inch

is this baby-bike on the market??

  • Yeah, it's a weird video. Seems like a fake one because I didn't see a sigle moment where he used the crank and it seems that the pedal doesn't really spin.

  • No chain. No brakes. 1 pedal.

  • Sweet bike too bad it has one pedal......

  • Nice!!

    good job...

  • wait wheres the chain?

  • is it an opticon?

  • Don't pop a wheele with that thing ,you might get face full of asphalt.

  • Wait, no chain? Wth?

  • This makes me suspicious. Watching the video, I didn't see a single moment in which the rider pedals. When the guy in the video looks like he's pedaling, his feet aren't shown. Maybe it's some kind of coast bike.

  • WOW!

as long as its not to expensive I would love to have this.

    superb, brilliant, revolutionary.

if it is marketed corectly it will be HUGE.

    lucky......

  • ge-ni-ous.

  • This concept begs for an electric front hub drive wheel. With the battery designed into the front, pegs, instead of pedals, and front wheel brakes, this would be a mainstream scooter. Oh, yeah, a basket, too!

  • what would happen if i do a jump ???

  • Do Want!

  • People in a wheelchair would not be able to ride a bike. A combination wheelchair/bike would be a completely asinine invention. You are an idiot.

  • So that's what happens to the bike in those old Poke'mon games on the GB/GBC/GBA/DS. It always said "A collapsable bike" in the description, and when you were done with it, it just disappeared... I always wondered how you might fold it up...

  • hahaha
