As haunting as the lyrics are, the blues riff and rhythm, and just the music in general gives you the feeling of being sleep deprived, like you've been driving all through the night. This IS the kind of song that if you were to play this on the radio you would HAVE to play it at night. @6925thcobras - I completely agree, that's the best way to describe this song. It truly does bring out the pain in your soul.

@6ollie66 Van has done heaps of blues since this check out some of the clips on my site on Youtube Vossmeister Albums like Too long in Exile, Keep it simple, Back op top, the Philosopher's Stone all have blues on them. Practically all his live shows have blues tracks in Them. Martin Scorcese's Red White & Blues DVD The British Invasion have Van doing "lot's of blues. Van is still blues.

Her sheets are infected with tuberculosis. He is visiting her and feeling the ultimate anxiety from being able to "almost smell" the infection. Watching someone die and not wanting to breathe in the same air. Denial.
