yeah I use imovie but I have used final cut pro its a great editing software.

Nothing. I don't work for them, just a hard core fan that cheers (and sometimes screams) at every game. :-)

Is Avid a system that a casual user could (a) afford and (b) have at home? I'm completely green when it comes to editing!

Avid is typically going to be the most expensive edit software ($1200+ or so.) So really not an option that a casual user could afford. I brought up the system because its an industry standard. I'll have more on it in next week's episode.
