A few catering and driving jobs in return for 4 billion dollars... I guess the families of the soldiers and civilians who died in the invasion should be very proud of their contribution to Shell's profits
democracy is the tool that elites use to project their power onto a society and the world. Who can defeat the corporate sponsored Democrat and Republican parties? Nobody. Democracy is like a dragon in lamb's clothing. It poses as rule of the people when the reality is something totally different
I agree with your entire analysis, except for the "Nobody" The future hasn't happened yet, and you can also look at it the other way: who can defeat the human spirit, truth justice and love? answer: nobody. it can only be supressed temporarily, sporadically and at huge cost and effort!! amandla! have faith, they will never succeed to control us

This guy must be either a complet idiot who doesn't understand questions or a pretty good actor who manages to hide his unwillingness to disclose information.
That's a very interesting, unique, well-thought-out perspective, but I was specifically concerned with how an incident of shooting Russian peace keepers fit into all this.
I don't understand? Why not just make the United States pay...if we can waste 700 billion dollars we can surly fix those ports before we leave Iraq!! :)
Who in the right mind does business in the middle of a war zone? These opportunist bastards are only there to fill their suit cases with money, not to develop Iraq.
No shit the business environment is improving... for the oil companies, lowlife contractors and weapons manufacturers.
these western oil companies only care about growing their own wealth; putting oil in their hands will allow them to steal from the iraqi people through profits, they pay some minimal wages and taxes and keep the vast majority of the wealth. the only thing they are willing to give back is to allow iraqis to serve them.
these companies could care less about given back the social infrastructure, the education, the electricity and working sewage systems that were established by the nationalization of the oil supplies. developing the oil in a way that is meant to service the self-interest of western capitalists is a way to make sure that iraqs resources are not used for iraqis. iraqis would be better off keeping the oil in the ground until they can develop themselves.
this is a big step back into the past when the europeans and americans controlled the middle east as protectorates and their companies controlled the oil. just because western companies already own lots of wealth should give them no claim over what iraqis need to survive. the violence and mass suffering that will be created by allowing this cancer to grab iraqs economy will be much worse than anything saddam ever did.
Absolutely, I thought the same thing. Shell put this sellout "Arab face" (with a white consciousness a la Franz Fanon's "Black Skin, White Masks") to talk to Al-Jazeera to smooth Shell's exploitation over w the Arab and Muslim masses. This is definitely a step back. It is up to Muslims worldwide to simultaneously Strike at these Bloodsuckers as well as read our Source materials for inspiration (The Qur'an and Hadith).
Iraq should develop their own oil processing facility. Why deal with anyone else when you have enough to build it yourself. Anyways, fuck'em let them kill each other. We take all the good deals, after all, why are we there?
What's with all the crying about the Iraqi oil? You really think the Iraqis have ever profited from the oil under Saddam or any other Iraqi dictator? Nope. The oil just brought them problems and warmongers that steal their resources.
The sooner Iraq gets on it's feet, the sooner the world economy will become healthy. The world needs energy at reasonable prices. Iran and Russia do not want reasonable prices and foment tension to keep energy prices high. Do the math.
Maybe if you went out and got a geopolitical education you wouldn't make such stupid comments. Shell is owned by British interests, and this project is incredibly generous towards the Iraqis, not to mention how desperatly Iraq needs forign investors while it's trying to stabilize.
Shell is based in the UK and the Netherlands (both of whom supported the invasion). Anyways, that does not justify the no bid contract, thats smacking of imperialism. Firstly, the no bid means that Iraq got the short-end of the stick because they could not bargain for a better deal. Secondly, oil/gas extraction is itself a industry with very little labour and very capital intensive; so he is overstating the employment affects, lastly if Shell's record in Nigeria is anything to go by...poor Iraq.
don't give me that bullshit...with 22,000 employees in the U.S. and a 50/50 stake in all resources this is just another example of the U.S. raping foreign lands and resources
Chavez is a military dictator who has no credible opposition. He is a tyrant. Bush is a civilian politician who has a very vibrant opposition. In fact, the nation is so opposed to and fed up with Bush, it has handed control over the government to that opposition. Bush is not at all tyrant.
DON'T you think there are other ways to allocate affordable energy with other rescources for energy...get 1/2 the gas guzzlers off the road with more battery operated cars, use more wind and solar...ETC. we need to change paths soon. we can't keep going on like this! we just can't!
