Just finding out today that Jon Lord has been fighting cancer since August. My face honestly went numb. I grew up on Deep Purple, They are my all time favorite band. Jon Lord has influenced my guitar playing as much as Ritchie Blackmore. Keep fighting. Stunned and saddened. Fight on Jon. Rock N Roll needs you.
@camposi Sorry to disappoint you, but yes, he is fighting cancer and all of his concerts are canceled. I already had tickets for the concert in Holland, but unfortunately he’s not coming. Anyway, let’s hope he wins this battle! A lot of fans are emotionally supporting him via Facebook.
This makes the hair on my arms to stand up... Hammond and the Beast... probably the greatest sound in rock music. They are also my favourite pieces of furniture.
This is so cool. There are countless covers of the Toccata but almost none of the Fugue. Mr. Lord recorded a superb version of the fugue having composed his own toccata. Much respect.
@marvinracer88 Check out Jon Lord's other albums and you will see that he CAN create much original, he just brings Bach's music to the next generation of people so the classics won't die.
@marvinracer88 I propose to use your brain before you prove your lack of manners. Jon Lord did this version to show the "ignorant fags" what music was 300 years ago, so this music will not be forgotten.
BTW, you act pretty infantile for a guy born in 1988.
@ThePurpleLP yah, a pretty infantile guy who actually plays Toccata and Fugue in D minor giving Bach the credit for composing it instead of saying "look how creative i am, ima play pop/gay lady gaga bach stuff so ignorant fags like you understand it. You have no fucking idea of what a Fugue is. "so this music will not be forgotten" who said it was forgotten? stupid gays who think lady gaga is the only music? Oh yeah... then your right well, lady gaga is not the only music now, fag.
@marvinracer88 I don't know wheter to laugh or to cry at your comment. It says in fat letters in the title "BACH on to this", and not "ONLY JON LORD AND NO OTHER ONE on to this."
Speaking of infantile, the cleverer give in. So that's what I'm gonna do now, just shut up and enjoy the music.
@ThePurpleLP so u call that "music" oh and I guess Lady Gaga is ART and justin gayber is Neoclasicism Art in all expresion. Right? Ok Mr. I know about music, go stick your un-original shit up in ur jew ass.
@marvinracer88 Wow, you must really hate Jon Lord. I don't get why you get so fuzzed up about all this? Yes, this is Bach's work, and yes, Jon Lord is playing his version of it, what's the problem? If you really love music, then you should at the very least admit that Jon Lord is a great Organist, even if you hate his version of Bach. I mean, I hate Celin Dion, but still I think she has a great voice... Besides, If you listen to early Deep Purple, you can hear that he's inspiered by Bach ;)
@Rocknrollshithole Hate? oh no. I like original musicians and I thought he was. I dont hate him, as a matter of fact I like a lot of his music but this is rly a shame, a copy. Btw, every single "pseudo-musician" is inspired by Bach, that is different from copy a piece and do a kind of "do-it-yourself" version.
@marvinracer88 Did Bach play alongside with a drumset? no, actually, there was no beat at all, only a pulse. Did Bach play on a hammond-organ with various sound effects? I don't think so? So how can you say it's a copy? ;p yes, and Bach was inspiered by people before him, and so on..
@Rocknrollshithole "no beat at all"? HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA oh my fucking god. Do some research before making a fool of yourself, Bach had NO BEAT AT ALL? OHHHHHH LORD ur either retarded or stupid. How can I say it is a cheap copy? well, im not gonna teach you vocabulary but a copy can be made either "note by note" or by certain passages, if you cannot understand what a copy is, then... go on! listen to this crap :P there is a saying: "the one who doesnt know God, is getting on his knees everywhere"
@marvinracer88 Do you play the drums? I doubt it. What I mean by "No beat" is that if you play a metronome over Bach's original, you can hear that the speed and counting changes, he doesn't follow one rythm. It's not meant to follow a fucking rythm either, because its meant for organ! when playing organ, you usually don't have a rythm, just a pulse! I was only pointing out that Jon Lord made use of rythm, as the music of today do, where as in Bach's time, it was mostly the melody that mattered.
@Rocknrollshithole what does speed have anything to do with copying a real artist's music? I got a masters degree in music by the royal school of music in wales, you think you gonna teach me accelerando and ritardando? Dude, what about taking a lady gaga piece of crap, stick it in ur ass, copy it and play it in your organ. "Bach has no rythm" That must be the most retarded music lesson ever.
@Rocknrollshithole "when playing organ, you usually don't have a rythm" so, basically some instruments got certain speeds, rythms, beats right? Like... a piano can be played at "black note = 110" but CANT BE PLAYED at "black note = 112" cuz piano doesnt have that "speed", organ doesnt have rythm, what about guitar? does it have beats? oh yeah i forgot!!! guitar can only be played at 3/4 but NEVER 4/4 AHAHAHHAHAHA i correct, that one must be the most retarded EVER.
@marvinracer88 That's not what I meant at all.. Well, congratulations then, Marvin, good for you. Maybe you can step down from heaven and teach me instead? If you really have a masters degree in music, why the hell do you spend your time arguing with a 16 year old like me on youtube, and tell me to play Lady Gaga? I most certainly will not play Lady Gaga, I don't like her "Music" any more than you. I only meant that Jon Lord made use of the drumset, which wasn't available in Bach's time.
Thank you for posting this... I had this LP, and it was one of my favorites, until one day I when I was playing this record (rather loudly) and my woofer vibrated the speaker off a shelf and it came crashing down on my stereo cracking the record...(talk about record breaking music!) This album inspired me to run out and by the sheet music for the Toccata and Fugue in Dm, needless to say, I have had many hours of fun playing it...This piece proves that Bach invented Rock n roll...
