Just finding out today that Jon Lord has been fighting cancer since August. My face honestly went numb. I grew up on Deep Purple, They are my all time favorite band. Jon Lord has influenced my guitar playing as much as Ritchie Blackmore. Keep fighting. Stunned and saddened. Fight on Jon. Rock N Roll needs you.

@camposi Sorry to disappoint you, but yes, he is fighting cancer and all of his concerts are canceled. I already had tickets for the concert in Holland, but unfortunately he’s not coming. Anyway, let’s hope he wins this battle! A lot of fans are emotionally supporting him via Facebook.

This is so cool. There are countless covers of the Toccata but almost none of the Fugue. Mr. Lord recorded a superb version of the fugue having composed his own toccata. Much respect.

If you really love music, then you should at the very least admit that Jon Lord is a great Organist, even if you hate his version of Bach. What I mean by "No beat" is that if you play a metronome over Bach's original, you can hear that the speed and counting changes, he doesn't follow one rythm. It's not meant to follow a fucking rythm either, because its meant for organ! when playing organ, you usually don't have a rythm, just a pulse! I was only pointing out that Jon Lord made use of rythm, as the music of today do, where as in Bach's time, it was mostly the melody that mattered.

This album inspired me to run out and by the sheet music for the Toccata and Fugue in Dm, needless to say, I have had many hours of fun playing it...This piece proves that Bach invented Rock n roll...
