  • @ausskipper - I know what you mean! Music really is timeless! I was born in 1951 and "hated" my parents music of the 40s. Now when I listen to it I can totally appreciate it!. Some of it I like just because it reminds me of my parents' generation but some of it I truly LIKE! Who would have thought!

  • tomorrow... twenty months with him...

  • the second 60s singer who turns out to be a fur muncher....people are strange

  • i love her hair

  • I could watch this video a million times

  • sorry Elvis, but you can't beat the original ;)

  • @goe5 You obviously haven't heard the original.

  • @goe5 Nobody can beat her.

  • One of the great talents from back then who could have an entire orchestra backing her up, without ever being drowned out, even a little. On the "not over singing" comment, rob57uk, spot on - she displayed the confidence of knowing she only had to "sing" to make it perfect. Amazing singer with one of the all time great songs. Thank God we still have the recordings to enjoy!

    Thanks for posting!

  • What a lady, what a looker, what a voice, what a song and what a sad sad day when we lost Dusty.

  • I love Dusty!!!

  • One of the all time greats, bar none! Dude, you kissed this woman? You kissed a goddess of soul .... my ex-wife used to sing her songs to me ... I can't help connect the songs to my past, but I could play Dusty over and over. (yeah, she breaks me up but man I miss Dusty so bad)MrNYGold was she not the best!? hope you remembered to punch the jerks lights out! don hall / bearcreekresearch

  • i agree with the "best song ever" comment - these songs don't get the recognition they deserve.

  • one of the best songs ever, if you ask me anyway :)

  • my god this song gives me chills...

  • Beautiful ... greetings from Poland.

  • What a classic...I am so in love with this song..Anna Maxwell/Oxnard Ca./USMC

  • Pure talent, a powerful voice, no robot voice electronic gadgets. Lyrics that speak from the heart. her death was a loss to music and to the world.

her being a lesbian has nothing to do with her talent. it just eliminated the chance that mortal man would sleep with her.

  • @Caracalman She was the best.

  • one of the great irish lesbian singers

  • The Angel Dusty Sings!

  • No costume. No backup dancers. Just a voice. A wonderful, powerful, one-of-a-kind voice. Whatever her personal demons, she left us the gift of a talent that will be heard forever. Peace.

  • @ViragoBoom She really was something. We were your when we started listening to her. Never get tired of her voice.

  • @eileenbalonis For whatever reason, Dusty Springfield was a singer that resonated within me. I memorized her songs immediately. This one will always be associated with the summer I turned 12 yrs old. It was a good one. I actually met Dusty when I was in my twenties. She was a friend of a friend. It was not the best of times in her professional life, and regardless of her personal demons and struggles, she was sweet, and had a magnificent sense of humor. I shall never forget her.

  • @ViragoBoom What a beautiful thought in your post... Very sincere...What an honor to have met her, no? :-)

  • Her voice makes me cry. Love it.

  • You are right- it gives me cold chills too- amazing what a stellar performance can do to a person. What a performer!

  • Loved the daisy earrings......evokes such memories of the 60's!

  • Brilliant, thank you!

  • One of the best singer,....very beautiful voice. Thanks for posting/sharing. .I like this beautiful song.

  • Isn't it odd. We have widescreen LED 3D tv's. We have blueray players.

    We have 'lossless audio'

And yet.. this ancient, low res, black & white, low audio quality film clip sends shivers up the spine....

and brings a tear to the eye.

    Still.

    QED.

  • @1ausskipper Nice comment and i agree totally, i could watch this sort of clip for hours, take care, Mick.

  • a great talent ,class

  • Perfection!!! .....Classic voice, perfect pitch, impeccable phrasing, immaculate enunciation and a consummate talented artist to boot. Sleep tight, Dusty. You brought countless fans from all over the world a lot of happiness. You and your songs will live on as there is no other singer in my humble opinion, past or present, who can hold a candle to you. We all miss you.

  • She was so incredibly talented. Such a class act. Her music never gets old.

  • hey, what happened to the vid of "doodlin"? it was so cool, her version is better than any of the others. thanks.

  • yes we get it everyone, you dont need too state your age too get credit. the music nowadays is bulloocks. we know. we live with it. :l

  • probly one of the best white soul singers. after dusty everyone just followed. but only one dusty

  • This is amazing I'm only 16 but I know what real music is

  • The voice this woman had could bring you to tears, just mesmorizing.

  • they wrote, and sang, songs back then .. born in 76 i can only imagine

  • kiss as always :)

  • epic

  • WOW Dusty Rules. I am in my 20s and I really missed such great music. I regret i was not born 40 years earlier so that I could've listened to such great music. I know I would be in my late 60s if i was born 40 years earlier, but life was so simple back then. People cared more about life, family and good moral values. With all this so called technology, good life and morals are in the pits. Musicians of today please sing like this and do not act like sluts or ganstas. Be a good role model.

  • It's songs like this that make me glad I grew up in the sixties (born in 1953). Most kids today have no idea what they missed.

  • @GregSr Im one of the few kids who DOES know what I've missed!

I agree with your comment 100%, I hate modern music and the way it's all like an assembly line churning out computerized sounding voices!

This is SO much better she is one of the best.

  • Love her love her love.....

  • Dusty Springfield, my mind, was best female recording artist to come out of the 60's.

  • wow, im only 14 and i love dusty. screw all the rap an shit this is where its at

  • @Godzilla5252 I agree! I'm 22 and I love Dusty and a load of other oldies. The "music" now is just . . . disgusting.

  • @irkofan Oh my goodness!!!!! I'm 6 years younger than you but I think you are so correct in what you said!!!!!! Oldies RULE!!!!

  • @TiMeCapsule123 I'm glad to hear that some of the younger generation (aside from myself) have some sense. <3

  • The old times!! believe me...hmmhmm

  • All these years later and we're still listening. She's the best.

  • Her music helped me when my mum died. I later found out she died from the same condition. RIP Dusty. I will never forget you.

  • She had such a beautiful, deep, and soulful voice. Lovely!

  • reminds me of my mum god bless mum xx

  • @pauls1089 My mom always liked Dusty, too!

  • When the contemporary artists are dead and forgotten, the entertainers like Dusty and Leslie will be around forever.

  • This and "Going Back" are my two favourite Dusty songs. Listening to this it is hard to imagine I heard this 45 years ago. This was the age of the English feminine triumvirate, Dusty, Cilla and Pet with Dusty out in front.

  • I miss those days--- bad.

  • Dusty voice will live for ever xx

  • Dusty voice will live for ever xx

  • simply .... unique

  • Awesome!!

  • IMO Cilla Black had a greater range and power...but Dusty S and Petula Clark had better voices to my ear!

  • Cila Black was close in range and power, but Dusty had more raw soul in her voice. Both women immensely talented!

  • Good Lord, what a talent! She was so talented, she made it look as easy as breathing. Wonderful.

  • Amazing and timeless voice. She was a great talent and I love to play and sing her songs.

    RIP

  • Someone here probably hates Dusty and gave all nice comments a thumbs down! They just can't see her grandeur...

  • A song, a voice, that touches one's heart - unless your heart is made of stone.

    Fantasic song, fantastic singer.

  • Love this song - gives me chills. Dusty was and is the best. No one else compares. RIP Dusty xxx

  • Dusty was wonderful. had a voice that touched hearts....

  • Dusty, the world misses you.

  • Just fabulous! Dusty was head and shoulders above her female peers. No one else could put a song across with the soul and passion she had in her voice.

  • hi i've just heard this song on boat that rocked, and i remember the intro being uesd in a rap/hiphop song... any one know what it is i'm thinking of? cheers

  • @DanWilsonEngland last of a dying breed ludacris ft lil wayne

  • THANKS MATE!!!

  • well done dusty.

  • that's some need to know information right there. thanks for sharing,

  • I prefer the original Italian one

  • i have this on my ipod...sounds so great...

  • Redbirdgirl88 I do have most of her songs in my Ipod too, isnt it great too?.....shes being my idol since I was 13 and Im 30..

  • Or maybe Dusty Springfield is English?

  • Yes, she was!

  • Yes, the original is "Io che non vivo più di un'ora senza te", and it means about "I can't live more than an our without you". The author and singer was Pino Donaggio. This song crossed all over the world, it's magic. And this american version is one of the best i've never heard.

  • This never gets old. What an amazing performance! BTW, didn't Viki Wikham write this song in like 10 minutes?

  • Translated the Song

    the Original was in Italian

    check Wiki for info

  • oh there was more to DUSTY than meets the eye! Great entertainer & a tone all her own! mmmm pure & sweet and sassy! She's my role model.

  • This song easily qualifies to be in my top ten list of 1960's classics.

I am so thankful I grew up in the 60's and 70's.

I know every generation says their music is the best.

This music has so much feeling. Today's music seems too manufactured.

  • Sincerity is not often a quality used to describe a persons voice, Dustys voice like Shirley's and a few others is sincere, we believe it, and so we are moved. This is a quality almost completely lost in todays parade of vocal showoffs, you don't have to look far to find people with fantastic voices that just do nothing for us. Wish you were here

  • She had a great soulful voice in the studio, but now watching her on stage, I see a kind of hokey presentation that does not match her vocals. Like many singers, once they get some amount of fame, they go deeper into pop as they serve the masses and leave what made them unique behind. I would prefer her singing deeper soul songs with a tougher presentation, with less strings and more guitar, for instance.

  • manyhighhills, can't believe you made that comment, my world was turned upside down when mom passed, I was 47, what changes and loss I felt, emptyness and bewildered.

  • The composers of "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" owe a bit of a debt to this song.

  • This is best version of them all!

  • Song could be easily interpreted as a lads loss of his mother. Usually happens when he is in his forties, at his most vulnerable, but when it happens his manhood feels that it has been cut in half, psychologically that is, not physically- better point that out to you ladies out there.

  • Such an emotional song.

  • the best female soul singer this country has ever seen

  • No disrespect to Dusty, but that's not saying much. She's from the land of Mr. Bean, the Queen, and Sherlock Holmes! She deserves a better compliment than that! Come on now! HAHA She's one of the best soul singers ever!

  • YYAAAAAAAAAAYYYY ...thank you for posting this...

  • 1965, listening to my transistor radio under the covers at night ... Dusty sounded fantastic then, still does now. One thing that made her sound so good was that she never over-sang anything. Madonna, Britney, Beyonce and a host of others should take note; just sing the song, girls. Of course you need good material, and a voice helps too. Dusty set a standard back then that still stands today. Fantastic post. Thanks.

  • Me too Rob - my precious transistor clutched under the bedclothes - listening for hours to Radio Luxembourg, Caroline and the beginnings of Radio 1 - no wonder I was always tired at school :) ) Dusty's voice is instantly recognisable, with an understated power and perfect delivery that is so incredibly effortless - none of the screeching that as you so rightly say the modern "divas" go in for. Thanks for your comment, it brought back a lot of memories, and thanks to "g" for this great post.

  • @rob57uk You would have been listening to Radio Caroline or Radio Luxembourg

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.

  • @gordonAfranks Radio Luxumbourg definitely, doin g homework with Dusty Springfield ....and yes radio Caroline...

  • @rob57uk Keep Madonna aside from your list of pretenders! She doesn't over do!

  • Very classy lady. Love her. Happy 60th Birthday Dusty. Miss you.

  • I had heard of her because of the Pet Shop Boys, now I know why they love her....

  • during the 50s & 60s we were blessed with some fantastic female singers who set the standard, personally i don't think anyone has reached this level since. . .not even close. .Britney, Madonna, and all of them so called R&B singers should watch this and see how its done

  • amen to that!

  • this particular performance, infact all her live performances on the bbc and itv around this time (mid 60`s) set the benchmark that all future british female singers would be judged by.

at the end of this song she may as well be saying `f##king follow that`.

40 years A.D (after dusty) and no one has even come close.

    not even close.

  • best of the 60's women singing much different now class and low class

  • Luadcris sampled this song for Last Of A Dying Breed on the latest CD Theater of the Mind. If u don't believe me just listen to the intro of the song.

  • The beauty of singing from the heart!

  • This woman was blessed with a beautiful and distinctive husky voice. I realized the depth of her talent after seeing others (American Idol contestants) trying to sing her songs and failing miserably.

I love this song. Thanks for posting this clip.

  • So true!! When I listen to these singers from the 50 and 60's---no one today can really compare to them (it's the music I guess I really love because I guess there are some great voices today but I just love the old stuff more! This music is just timeless...when I hear these songs I get chills...nothing really gives me chills these days! I like alot of songs but not crazy about them like these oldies!!

  • whoa, i didn't know they had so much gestures in singing that time...

  • I always thought Dusty Springfield was beautiful.......Great singer too! = D

  • Soaring emotion and beauty!! What a great song and performance! No one has done it better!

  • Always brings back nice memories !!!!! Thanks
