  • good song ...with Olson .

  • James is timeless. My parents used to listen to him, and I listen to him today. The ultimate mellow, soothing voice. You can't really listen to James and not feel different afterwards.

  • we love you James taylor. you rock

  • I have enjoyed this song (and all of James Taylor's work in the past), and still find great enjoyment listening to and watching his performance on YouTube. Truly awesome and serenely inspiring. I grew up with his melodies and masterful performances --- both vocals and guitar playing. Love you James....

  • wow!

  • For you James...

    Dad

  • No band, back up singers, fancy light shows. Just a man, his guitar and his music. The way to truely enjoy music. Very few performers can entertain an audience like this. I can listen to his music forever.

  • @rin5581948 your right just a simple man that just happens to have music as his life

  • @rin5581948 Yes. Just pure God given talent. Why is there no one like this now? Well, if there is I've never heard them.

  • amazing love you james taylor this was the first song i heard after my son was born

  • my favorite...

  • Great Tune, great words.

  • The best singer that will ever be! No Comparison.

  • saw jt w/carole king last night & his voice is still amazing!

  • I started listening to JT when I was 16, so long ago, he's just as fresh as ever

But at least we share a hair-style!

  • check out Jim Cole sounds Identical

  • Just love this guy. I have seen him soooo many times. When I saw him last and he played this the audience sang the chorus with him - at one point he was so taken by it he started crying!! Gotta love it!!!

  • concert was recorded in the Berkshires..Colonial Theater, Pittsfield, MA

  • wow i havnt heard this song since i was a little kid...love it

  • I saw him many years ago at the Nokia Theatre and was just amazed at how smooth his voice was even now. He came to this song and without any real fanfare began to play. I have to tell you that in that moment, as the words lifted over us I realized that after years as a kid growing up and listening to his music, and this one in particular I always considered his anthem, I was sitting only a few rows from him as he sang. It was difficult to contain the emotion that came over me. Amazing!

  • @ejwells409 god that is amazing. I so hope to see him in concert next week. Thanks for your post.

  • I listen to him play this song and I'm just blown away. Being a musician myself, I've played and tried my best to sing this song and I am just not worthy. He is a magical talent.

  • Does anybody know where this concert was? I'm guessing it's in Massachusetts somewhere due to the crowd reaction when he sang about the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston being covered in snow.

  • So good it hurts.

  • He plays an Olson

  • What kind of guitar does he use?

  • Oh, man. You are just so darned GREAT.

  • I saw him live in Hawaii in the 70's, and I remember crying tears of joy, and at times sadness and sorrow, throughout the concert. Such a deeply spiritual and emotional singer and songwriter. An American icon. Thank you, James!

  • he sings the most gripping songs. cant say enough about him. truly a legend

  • James Taylor for president; I'm losing faith in my brother. Shame. :(

  • obamas not that good

  • this man by the grace of god is a living legend

  • Everything JT does is good, for all the naysayers...what did you do today? Write a song? Probably not...see ya.

  • @jag884fn same iwth many famous muscicnas like Paul McCartney- everyone always makes rude comments about him- yet he works to raise awareness about issues, like landmines, encourages vegetarianism and peace and love-- waht more could anyone want. and George Harrison the famous Beatles band member even founded his own charity to help kids.

  • @4FabBEATLES hey I'm part of PETA people eating tasty animals!

  • His music is amazing!

  • Thank You James. Simply beautiful.

  • Great singer-songwriter.

  • i watched this on new year's eve! :) i love how he explains the song and tells stories before he plays it :)

  • just as sweet as the first time i heard it. and that was a million times ago. thanks James.

  • James Taylor....the blueprint for humanity!

  • Pretty cool to have Uncle James singing that to you, after you go to bed as a kid!

  • Have seen him just about every summer since I was 16 yrs old .. LONG LIVE JT <3

  • this song does my heart so good!

  • here's a crazy thought... I wish JT was doing the superbowl instead of the Who.... talk about the essence of America... not England! I imagine he has been approaced though, maybe he declined

  • I love him!

  • JT is the BEST!

  • the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston.....long live Brookliners!!!!......rock-a-bye Sweet Baby JT>>>JK86

  • Great Man! I love him!

  • he rocks i love him had a chrus on him when i was 5 haha i told him he said that it was cute

  • I just love James Taylor.

  • I once saw him at a live concert on TV. Half of the audience was in tears....... the men too. All of his songs have such deep feeling and memories attached to them for everyone who has been a long term fan; some good; some bad, but he is a legend whos voice seems to be as good now as it has always been. Fantastic.

  • Does his voice actually sound BETTER here than in his younger days?!! Wonderful.

  • not only that I think he looks better too... one of those rare guys that looks good bald... like Bruce Willis.

  • He really does get better with age, he came to Belfast on his 50th birthday and did a brilliant concert. He came back again last year and actually his voice sounded even richer, he`s lost the hair but none of his wonderful talent for writing and singing.

  • @marvy1118 His voice is amazing.

  • @marvy1118 I really do think it does. He's PHENOMENAL. <3333333

  • @marvy1118 Yes. I think so. It has matured with age. It has even more character and warmth now. And he's also grown and matured as a confident performer as he's gotten older.

  • @marvy1118 Simply His voice is fantastic, every time I listen to my mind flies over the green countryside of America, thanks james, is not your voice, your magic.

  • wonderful

  • my family loves this man. he is really awesome.his voice has never changed... i love listening to his songs.

  • i should admit... this was the lullabye my mother sung me as a small child so i'm not exactly impartial.

  • Maybe the most underated songwriter of the last 50 years. Second only to McCartney/Lennon.

  • Second to McCartney/Lennon???? Only in your dreams... JT's music comes from the soul. And it permeates the heart and soul of others. No offense to you, Paul or John, but JT is the best!!!!!

  • @mrlnq6 neil young and bob dylan are two greats as well.

  • The Best!!!

  • I saw him a couple of year ago at Newcastle City Hall when he toured in England and was utlerly amazed. This is my favourite song and it was twice as good live than on CD. He has a brilliant voice that has a amazing affect when you're trying to relax....James Talyor is my exam secret!

  • Lol, i have that secret too , i saw him in jersey just love how tranquel and soothing his voice is

  • i've seen him in concert twice in Toronto... he was great.... the man is an amazing artist..

  • he sold the junk that one of the allman brothers OD' on...

but i saw him in concert....great

  • It was the early 70s, almost everyone was a heroin addict...

  • they were all as dumb as each other in those days. Let your junk trivia sink into the abyss it deserves my friend. I have yet to see Mr Taylor live but it's on my list...

  • Wow!James Taylor is amazing! You can tell that he is a genuinely good guy...and he's a legend to boot! Also, the joy on his face when he sings this song, still after nearly 40 years...just wow!(again, heehee.)I used to sing this to my youngest son EVERY night when he was a baby and toddler...would change 'James' to his name 'Gabe',and it was the only thing that would get him to sleep.Well,Gabe is now 10 years old and he and I both love this wonderful song more than ever!

  • This is more better upload. many thanks for sharing and uploading concordrecords. He got old and bald but voice never change.

  • JT is the man........what a tune......

  • i am named after james taylor. he is so amazing.

  • James Taylor Live is the best CD I own

  • One of the greatest songs ever. Love JT.

  • Last night on The Tonight which was Jay Leno's last show.....He said he just had to have James Taylor sing this song and then I knew Jay and I had something very much in common....an admiration of James Taylor and especially this song.

  • each generation love him, I also watched him on Jay Leno lasr night geeat.

  • Just watched this song as James Taylor closed out Jay Leno's run on The Tonight Show. What a great, great tune.

  • Omg...

    I'm just speechless.

    Was this at the PPAC?

  • ~~ w0w ~~ BEAUTIIFUL song ~~ J.T. is the MAN ~~

  • I have gone to every James concerts and each and every one is the best. He is an amazing man and his words just tell it all....Wow......

  • Ahhh...one of my very favorite songs by my absolute favorite artist. He delivers the clearest, richest notes every time. I love this sweet little cowboy lullabye...and anything else James will sing! Big, big fan of Mr. Taylors! ;)

  • I saw him in concert in the summer of 2008, and he explained the story behind this song. I'd always thought it was a lullaby to himself as a little child, but he actually explained he'd written it for his baby nephew, who was also named James.

  • An absolute treasure.

  • ...listen carefully to his voice...it hasn't changed in 39 years. What a blessing to him ...what a gift to us all!

  • I beg to differ..

    it's gotten better:)

  • This is an excelent performance, but the real real old live version that was confiscated off moondoggy's channel was also phenonmenal, and James even had hair back then (lol) it's a shame we are denied viewing the old classics because "someone" thinks their being scalped....James was a treasure then and now,, Lay off the copyright infringments and let us enjoy these timeless classic's

  • A voice to die for.

  • His guitar is incredible. The tone is absolutely flawless. He may as well be singing with a symphony.

  • This man is up there with Lennon-McCartney, Bill Joel, Ray Davies, etc., etc., as one of the greatest song writers of our generation. What a great song this is.

  • Jolly Good...I like guys named Jim...James..

Ya can't go wrong with a Jimi....

  • Bloody hell, he's a bit good live. Beautiful.

  • this guy has an amazing singing voice :)

  • ♥ unbelievable♥

  • james is just top doller, the older he gets, the better he gets, fantastic

  • NHL Trade:

Phoenix Coyotes trade C Olli Jokinen to the Calgary Flames in exchange for F Matthew Lombardi, F Brandon Prust, and a first-round draft pick

  • L'estrema dolcezza che traspare sia nel cantare che nel modo di parlare e di porgersi, fa sì che non si possa non amare lui e le sue canzoni.

    La sua delicatezza è devastante...!!!

  • Well not really when your twelve coz you dont have lots of money to just pull out of yourr wallet. i only had $12 lol

  • this was the lullabye i sang my sons.

  • Excellent...!

  • This is what perfection is all about.

  • This song is just lovely, and i agree it is even better now.

  • Its the story behind the song, he can't just make up another story because he's told this one before.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

thats just what i was thinking !!!!!

  • Ginder you're a noob lol.

  • what!! how can you say that you lier!! he is the most insperational man take that back!

  • I had the opportunity to meet James a few years ago. He was performing for the 4th of July special in NY playing "On The 4th of July". Afterward, he played Sweet Baby James at the request of the crowd. The night was perfect and the song still sticks in my mind. It was amazing to meet him and sit about 3 feet away as he performed it.

  • I saw James Taylor, in London in 1970, sing a flawless concert including Sweet Baby James. It's been a favourite song and the key to many memories since. Timeless and beautiful.

  • I drive for New York Trailways and drive that route at times. I can picture the "Berkshires dreamlike" I loved JT long before now..he is awesome! And I love the comment about "if you like kids"...know exactly what you mean...lol

  • Great Song and he sings it better now than back then!

  • Yeah JT! Still got it!

  • saw him play this at edinburgh playhouse...brilliant

  • Olson Guitar more like 15,000 dollars hand made.

But James started with ( and wrote SBJ on) a gibson jumbo he bought from John Sheldon's dad. Its not just the guitar.. he's one hell of a brilliant guitar player. So relaxed and so positive in his picking. As he said once when you've played a song nearly every night for 40 years you kind of get to know it very well.

  • One more thing.. he looks a happier soul these days.

Keep doing what you do JT you have been the soundtrack for many people.. (including me)

  • My dad and my brother LOVE this song but I havent heard it in a while

  • I will always love James taylor. always.

  • you mean 15 thousand...?

  • yup!! $15 thousand for an Olson SJ James Taylor model

  • the best sounding guitar ever!

  • yeah, an olson sj james taylor signature model which costs about 15 hundred dollars

  • And I had a ticket for the Stockholm Concert last week... couldn't make it due to illness in the family. Talk about missed opportunities... one of the most gifted of all times

  • i was named after this song!!!!

    love this song to death!!!

  • Hopefully your name didn't include the "sweet baby" part. I love this song, but I've only seen it on TV.

  • one of his all-time best songs of hundreds...makes me remember when the kids were so little and could sing them to sleep..always called my Godson by this name ....

  • beautiful song,my names's James too!.

  • awesome video!

  • Amazing, when he sings "Stockbridge to Boston" everyone cheers and he seemlessly adds a few more chords as he waits for it to die down...

  • i watch this vid over and over and over

and evy time it gives me gooseumbs

  • Born and raised in pittsfield too bro.. saw james at tanglewood a bunch of times.. awesome!

  • I was there. I live in Pittsfield and got tickets to the Colonial. It was incredible.

  • ya, its great that his voice is still as good as it was 40 years ago

  • i love this man!

    smart and simple

  • I bought my father One Man Band. He absolutely LOVES it.
