Fascinating images. Sometimes they look like abstract expressionist paintings, sometimes like the images I see when I rub my eyes before sleeping. In your letter you seem to reduce brain into a pixel processor. Are you by any chance trying to minimize the importance of history, memories, desires, feelings that external or internal reality convey?
Hey Mike, just wondering if you do your work on a MAC, and if so, are you using Final Cut. Just curious. I dig this kind of stuff simply because it's so trippy and different.
@ skizitgesture- yeah, this is the type of thing you either enjoy or not, there's really no middle ground, to each their own.
@nero044 I use both macs and PCs and often shift between using Final Cut, Adobe Premiere and sometimes After Effects to prepare my source footage which in the case of my more recent work I then mix in real-time using a program called Grand VJ which lets me 'play' the video like a keyboard instrument. I have access to most of this stuff because I work as a pro editor as my day job but the real key is to take whatever tools you've got and find unique ways to manipulate the footage you've got.
Yeah, "far out" about sums it up. LOL... I loved the fact that there was organization/beauty/pattern/texture/pattern/color harmony in every random thing I watched.
well done! it does remind me of film but in digital form, the only difference in the hand on approach manipulating the film; in the 1960's, film was used to create light shows and "happenings" ... this is fine work and does refer to that experience well... bravo!
I met an old time NASA dude who I argued about how stupid I though his swearing secrets to the grave was, but he said he wouldn't go digital when it came to camera's
@joelamckenna Have you ever checked out anything by Stan Brakhage? He used to do all kinds of cool stuff with actual film like scratching the emulsion to create abstract patterns or applying paint to clear film stock. I suspect that your friend's official preference for film might be rooted in the fact that in the event of a technological disaster a future civilization might still be able to see the images on a reel of film while they might have a hard time decyphering digital video code.
