The Tau codex is filled with alot of nifty stuff (although newer codexes benefit over them from powercreep) there is 1 unit that is just useless and that is the Ethereal. He increases the morale of Tau units but the forced morale roll when he dies means hes pretty much just a ''IWIN'' button for the opponent. His Bodyguards increased BS means they shoot better than normal FW's but still when you max out that squad they dont even out in killing power/points.
waste of hq even with a meat shield because you can only have 2 hq unless your playing apocalypse you need to put a crisis battlesuit and a commander such as farsight or shadowsun
Ethereal's like Aun 'va are a waste of a HQ slot and a waste of points. I have collected Tau for a long time and never baught him. The 'price of failure' rule is just too much to bear if all tau units must take a leadership test on a Ld 7 value. Not good.
4. you havent read the codex and dont know that you must have 1+ battlesuit commander and 1+ Fire Warrior teams and thus think that you can plug the compulsory HQ slot with a cheap peice of shit model.
I shit you not that this is the most pointless model in the whole tau list. the guy even out does sniper drones in terms of poor coneption!!!
i still would NEVER put this in my army because i play almost all tau with 1 12 man kroot unit so price of failer would suck maybe they will be better in a new codex.

why would you take him?
1. you may want your army to run away
2. you may want some veterans that cost too much
3. you may want to pay for sheild drones

I still like to take an Ethereal sometimes just for the leadership bonus, and making a squad of, say, broadsides, fearless.
