I think Reri Grist was one of the most charming and musical of the Light Sopranos of her time, I love the quality of her voice and think her a wonderful technician and a good actress, She gets the innocence and purity of Gilda and the passion in my view but to each his own. Grist was a major talent and the quality of her work will speak for her. Her voice was beautiful, well trained and she was lovely and she was a good actress. That's enough for me
@AulicExclusiva I remember Reri Grist very well and have always admired her singing. Though she had a successful career, somehow she--similar to Gianna d'Angelo and Gail Robinson--never attained super-stardom status. Thanks, AE, for sending, and thanks as well to lareto for posting.
@meltzerboy I had never heard of her until i heard this, she has a wonderful voice. When was she perfoming? The portrait photo shows her with a sixties hair style.
Belcanto BR writes "A caro nome sung "a la Susanna". Nothing of Gilda here. "
Belcanto is likely an undergraduate in some college or university program, and she's working on this aria, and now she has become a leading world expert and critic! Hey, belcantoBR, how about you show us YOUR Caro nome....let's see how it compares to this ARTIST'S girlish and ravishingly beautiful version.
To whomever posted this, thanks for sharing this treasure.
@nichtsleezy You hit it on the head. No doubt Belcanto is a bitter singer who justifies their lack of such a gorgeous soaring line and crystal clear high notes by claiming they get the "character." This is music making first and, despite the name, Belcanto doesn't get it.
@boomchuckaboom Well, if the qualification required to comment on this video is having sung Caro nome, how about you post yours too, boomchuckaboom? Belcanto BR is entitled to hold an opinion. Personally, I think Grist's Caro nome is not without it's unique beauty, but it is an aria that has been sung by better technicians and considerably better dramatists. And I agree that there is less of Gilda here than in other recordings.
Typical of the impeccable musicianship that Ms. Grist had. I think that's the first time I've ever heard this aria with all the right rhythms. Beautiful.

A lovely lirico-leggiero performance, sung with aristocratic tenderness and sure musicality . One of the best.

@33blueberries I respect your opinion, but Reri is one of the best "technicians" in the opera world! Have you heard her Zerbinetta??
