I watched this masterpiece a few days ago. It was the first time I've seen Catherine Deneuve and I'm afraid that since then I won't ever be able to describe any other woman as 'beautiful'.
@Johnlindsey289 are youn fucking joking me you are putting down LOST BOYS! yes SOMEWHAT indeed corny when will people realize the corny of today is the classic of tomorrow! and what you honestly think could have been deeper and more engaged today yesterday recieved gasps and shrills! The "boring" horror moviers of today that made you laugh in those days made people sleep with there parents! remember that and then maybe you will app. old school sirensofsorrow@gmail.com
This is a really atmospheric stylish Movie. And i love the elegance and decadence of the whole movie.Yes Bowie is only in it a bit.but what Part?Music is fab and like one reviewer said on here it is a master piece of the genre.Unlike Twilight and numerous other trash vampire flicks. This and Interview with a vampire and of course Nosferatu are classics.
I just finished watching this here on YouTube not that long ago. I've seen worse movies, but the plot is pretty thin. Plus, if you're thinking about watching it just to gawk at Bowie you should know that he's not really in the movie that long. It's worth it though because he looks reel purdy (for like the first fifteen minutes, anyway) and he does some freaky stuff to some ladies, so it's still a win.
Cinema 101 Requirement... Love this film... couldn't get enough of it when I first saw it when it came out. Everyone was talking about it! Extremely well done and classically done so it stands the test of time against today's homogenized vampire films. Excellent cast did a great job. Too bad at the end about those corny titles with adjectives telling you in colloquial terms what type of film it is. LOL! 5 stars baby!
Wow, an actually half decent looking vampire movie, a lot of them don't play around with the sensuality of vampires enough and their sauveness and charisma, this looks like it does and very well... I must watch it :)
This is a cool movie i admit, but so is twilight in a way, cos its not like the other vampire movies, always nice with new twists? on the vampire movies, would be dull if everyone would be like the next one, and yeah while i like The hunger, nosferatu, twilight, 30 days of night and alot more, you may not :)
@Johnlindsey289 "Let the Right One In" was very well directed, very good narration and photography, but knowing that Eli was not a girl and was actually an old castrated vampire who was sleeping naked with that pale tender boy, is quite disturbing isn't it? And then comes the title... lol
Yes, Let Me In was great. There's also The Thing, The Fly, The Crazies, The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, PJ's King Kong, Cat People, Cape Fear, The Hills Have Eyes, Last House on The Left, Willard, Toolbox Murders, 2001 Maniacs, Wizard of Gore, The Ring, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of Wax (1953), Little Shop of Horrors, I Spit on Your Grave, Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead which are also great horror remakes, seen those?
@Johnlindsey289 Hi John, you make a good point - many of those were very great, but aside from The Ring, they were all American remakes of American films.. I was referring to American remakes of Asian films when I made that comment. I think the Japanese Ringu was much creepier than The Ring, likewise The Grudge (Ju-on) , The Maid, The Eye, Dark Water and some others. And we can't forget Godzilla! :) Likewise I think [REC] was superior to Quarintine.
@Johnlindsey289 John, since you mention the Dead remakes, have you seen Romero's last one- Survival of the Dead? I am a huge Romero fan, and think Land and Diary were great. It felt like each of his zombie flicks was even better than the one before. But wow- something about Survival was just so wrong, I'd rather think it was made by one of his assistants and just signed off by George. What did you think of it?
So seeing The Hunger is like going to a fancy restraunt right while Twilight is Mcdonalds right? and would you compare this to Lifeforce or Near Dark?
@Johnlindsey289 In my humble opinion yes, that's a good analogy :) Uhm... i wouldn't know about the movies you mention. I just watched the trailers and i'm definitely going to watch Near Dark (looks good and there's L.Henriksen in it too), i'm not sure about Lifeforce though, it looks pretty dumb at first glance (omg isn't that Duane Barry!?).
Lifeforce is quite cool actually as it's a unique and fresh new Sci-fi take on vampire and zombie legnds! as it stars Patrick Stewart.
Do you think The Hunger can be compared to The Lost Boys or Fright Night? if you liked this one check out Vamp (1986), Vampire Hunter D, Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Innocent Blood, Night Flier and Salem's Lot.
How come these vampires can walk in the daylight yet don't sparkle?
@Johnlindsey289 No, actually i don't think I can compare it to any other vampire movie (that i've seen). It's really not a typical movie about vampires who hate garlic, fly, have superhuman powers (although Miriam is very strong), grow fangs, or sparkle in sunlight. The story is more about the solitary nature of an immortal creature who is cursed to live for ever and "lose" and deceive (out of necessity) her life partners.
No way, Interview with the Vampire made vampires gay before Twilight did. Twilight is the product of a mormon housewife who puts her teengirl shower nozzle masturbation fantasies on paper. Severen from Near Dark is better than that lestat queer.
@Les400films, Amen. David Bowie should have been Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire" and Anne Rice should have made the switch in the second story with Lestat as the main character not defining himself as good, but as some lanky trouble maker with David Bowie continuing the series.
But what's it called, voice-over man? And who's in it? And what happens? And what's it called?
