so good to see someone on youtube that actually is doing a good job. So encouraging to watch....most videos just make wonder that with all the education out there nowadays on how to communicate with horses in a way they understand and enjoy, do people really do any research or learning before they take on such a task. They really think they are doing a good job by overpowering an animal. Great going...how is the horse now.
This is so cool! Great Video. Its much better to train the foal like you do from such and early age. Most people do not realise this, particularly the old school, but training like this, is exciting and fun for the foal and it avoids all the problems later on in the horses life. Its at this age horses love to learn. Its also good if the mother of the foal is nearby and watching as well. I wish more horse owners would watch these videos and learn instead of being know alls! Great Job, Happy foal!
@MrNativeDancer Thank you! It is so much better and so much easier done this way. You see so many babies being man handled when if given the chance they would be very happy to give pretty much anything a go in a calm curious way.
Is there a reason for avoiding a halter at first? Safety? Does using the rope around the neck confuse the young horse when you put a halter on for the first time and they've only known to respond to pressure around their necks and not directly their heads?
@Lillable1 I find It alot safer and less stressful, by the time they have the halter on it's all a big game and they couldn't care less, I also use gentle pressure on their head with my hand to get them used to it before i put the halter on. Learning that you can move into pressure and get rewarded for it also helps helps when they start leading in the halter because the idea is already in their minds. I think a halter puts us too much in control/power in our own minds.
@Logandstump1287779 Yest thats mum:) Cara is over 3years old now and has grown into a lovely girl. I'll try to post a vid of the steps in starting her when I do:)

I really like your style. I wish more people understood the importance of small steps and consistent rewards.

@lessyejoy It's a lesson I'm reminded of every day by my horses, if I ever do too much they let me know and just walk off:)

@SouthTexasGal830 Thank you! Yes, you should need a licence to own/breed horses:)
Puffinfire 10 months ago
@Puffinfire Unfortunately, anyone can get a licence...you need a kind heart and a passion for horses. But I know where your coming from. :)
