I am not American, I am British, lived in America for 10 years, then Germany for 3, and then migrated to Australia, and have lived here for 6 years. I think I have a good angle on how life is different in these countries. American pop culture and the like is all over the place. The Germans eat up American culture too but if you ask people there what they think of the US, you will hear something negative. Australia is the same.
Australians tend to have a lot of Anti American sentiment, especially among younger Aussies. It went down a bit when Obama took over but its still pretty high in Oz.

My opinion is the opposite, the only tension that is racial in Sydney is between the Lebanese and non Lebanese, Racial tension in Melbourne flared up with the rash of attacks against Indian students in Melbourne, although most attacks were muggings and robberies, the mass media spun into a racial thing and it began to take on a more racial tone. Honestly though Australia's racial issues are nothing compared to what I have seen in Europe, Britain, or even the USA.

I am not American, I am British, lived in America for 10 years, then Germany for 3, and then migrated to Australia, and have lived here for 6 years. I think I have a good angle on how life is different in these countries. American pop culture and the like is all over the place. The Germans eat up American culture too but if you ask people there what they think of the US, you will hear something negative. Australia is the same.

My opinion is the opposite, the only tension that is racial in Sydney is between the Lebanese and non Lebanese, Racial tension in Melbourne flared up with the rash of attacks against Indian students in Melbourne, although most attacks were muggings and robberies, the mass media spun into a racial thing and it began to take on a more racial tone. Honestly though Australia's racial issues are nothing compared to what I have seen in Europe, Britain, or even the USA.

@Gabbo2010 yeah i guess so, it's not to say they don't happen, but more that the media always tends to make matters worse, i had a few friends come over from america and they were suprised at how peaceful and assimilated our people are, they said they were expecting a fight to break out any moment based on the fact there's so many different cultures around, and i assumed that's the influence of their media's attention on them, which is a real shame, cos we're not that bad hehe

Most Americans are dumb, and racism is endemic in the US, even though many North Americans claim they are not I have heard a lot of stupid stuff come out many an American and Canadian mouth. Even a few years ago an African American telling me likes everyone except Muslims. Add that America is economically in the toilet, I question the sanity of any Aussie who wants to live there.
