Newsteads stage presence is unmatched. There is no bassist past or present that will out perform him. He could play a metallica show by himself and it would be awesome.

I respect your opinion. However I consider Trujillo way better than Jason in both technique and stage presence. I´ll always consider Jason a bassist who was picked during an emergency. He did a great job though but not comparable in any way to Cliff or Rob. To me Rob´s a more decent substitue for Cliff. My personal opinion only. Regards.

Well friend that depends on what you like. I prefer Rob on stage, not to mention that I prefer his bass on studio sound as well. To me he´s an excelent overall bass player (one of the best in metal). Jason was decent to me and i appreciate his job on Metallica because he gave 101% for the band and that´s awesome. But I like Rob better. However I understand other people prefer Jason which is something I respect because again, I think he did his best. Regards.

The reason you couldn't hear Jason during his first 2 years is that he played in perfect time with the other guitars, it's something he did with Flotsam and Jetsam. It made for stronger sounding guitars. It wasn't until his Black Album days that he started to differentiate from the rest of the bands sound, letting people really get to hear him.
