  • people vote for them

  • they should have had real judges rather than just votes. Some people might just be more popular...

  • Great performance.

There must be BGGEST technical error you were not selected.

We enjoyed it. Wish you well in your future endeavour.

i really hope you make it to carnegie 'cause you definitely deserve it!

  • HAHA you remember that?? that was hella long ago! thanks :)

  • Hey too easy You should shift more than just fith

  • ur probably gonna make it, jason. Nice clean job and vibrato.

  • you are the hottest asian ever, and i hope you get to go to carnegie hall because that was really cleanly played

  • HAHA wow thanks!

    I hope you make it!!!!!

Please watch my videos and tell me what you think!!!!1

Thanks and good luck to you!!!1

  • you are really good!!!!!!!!! i hope you make it! will you be my friend?

  • haha sure!

  • pretty good

  • Your expression is excellent! You're hired! :)

Only thing I would suggest is to watch your meter

and precision on the staccato areas.

  • gotcha, thanks!

  • amazing! hope you get in! good luck!

  • Hell yeah Jason! That's what I'm talkin about!!

  • oo i c, then hav u consider of going to conservatory??

  • not really haha

  • wer do u learn violin?? conservatory??

  • no i just always did private lessons around new jersey/new york where i grew up

  • jason! I need some help. Where is the list of recommended pieces to audition for the NY trip!?!? OR can we pretty much play any violin solo...I have a Dancla piece prepared the 6th movement of his Air Varie prepared.

P.s. your upper register notes are very clean and they really do sing. Bravo

  • i don't think you can just play any violin solo, go to the Symphony page, the Prepare tab, Violin, Video 2. The list of pieces is there!

  • :] wow thats pretty guud.

im thinking about auditioning harp :)

  • bravo, nice job

  • Jason, your playing is wonderful. I hope you make it into YTSO! =]

  • thank you! :)

  • wow!!!! I am really impressed by ur video.

I am sure that u will pass the audition.

  • thanks!

  • very clear and pretty! i dont think you missed a note at all!

  • i'm also auditioning to and your audition is really great in terms of what the judges are looking for. But anyways, do you have bowings suggestion for measure 98? i'm getting confused at the moment learning before i have to record and submit my audition videos.

  • thanks man! ooh yeah meausre 98 haha, i wasn't a big fan of that up-bow marking on that G#... so I just did: down up down up up down up down up instead. Is that what you're doing instead too?

  • haha omg. ive been playing for six years and its always fun to see someone eating up the music. neways they have to let you in! keep giving me chills hot stuff. lol

  • eating up the music?? i've never heard that one before haha but thanks! :)

are you making a video too?

  • Youre a great violinist! ☻ Im terrible at playing :P

  • i bet you're not terrible at playing :(

  • woahhh amazing playing :)

aand pretty cool hair too, lol

    you'll def. make it in!

  • thanks! :D

  • hahaha thanks!

  • Chilkinw00t is right you do have awesome hair :3 Anyway hope you get in the orchestra!

  • nice ricochet. and are u in the usc thornton orchestra. i hear they're great. i'm not auditioning there tho T.T anyway good job.

  • no i'm not in the thornton symphony, i'm in the USC Concert Orchestra which is primarily for non-music majors like me haha. but what you hear is right, the thornton symphony is freaking amazing!

  • SASUKE HAIRCUT! IM LOVIN IT!

  • I thought you were great, however as a fellow violinist I think you should have just continued with the ricochets during the allegro vivace. Another thing fingered octave would have been best when you where playing bars 105 and again at bar 125 -- so that it would sound cleaner and there would be a clearer separation of notes. Furthermore it should have been a little more stacatto than legato, however good job, god speed, and go Trojans!

  • ooh true true. no i agree with all of those haha, i mean i can't really do much about them now but thanks for the feedback! i'll keep that in mind for next...time? haha

  • zomg ur goooooooood :D

    best one so farrr :D

  • thank you! :)

  • im like 13

and it'll take me another like 20 yrs to play like that.

maybe i dont practice enough ._.

  • GAH! P.S. - GREAT JOB LOL! That was....beyond insane. Beyond beyond insane even.

  • hahaha thanks!

  • Please Jason, if you can, answer me this: what chin rest do you use? I've never used one in my entire life, and I must say that shifting has always been annoying (but I do it anyway- the problem is my neck gets irritated every time).

I need a good chin rest that works. Can you help me? Thank you.

  • wait did you mean chin rest or shoulder rest? the chin rest shouldn't make a big difference at all. if you meant shoulder rest, i still don't know haha, the one i use is a wooden one with thin padding... it doesn't have a brand name on it and someone gave it to me so i don't know where it was bought either. sorry! but i mean Kun always makes pretty good ones that aren't too bulky and are easily adjustable as well, so check those out!

  • wow..excellent

    good job :D

  • how do you do the spaccato?

if that's what it's called. bouncing on the bow.

i did that once for some song and i saw it on the symphony one. so complicated. sigh....you're so good!!!!!!!

makes me not want to audition.

    YOU'LL MAKE IT!!! POSITIVE!!

  • thanks man!

the spicatto/bouncing requires a relaxed but balanced grip on the bow, as well as an overall relaxed bow arm. the key, as most teachers will tell you, is to not deliberately try to make the bow bounce on the string, but rather to let it fall and rise on its own, with just enough support from the right hand to keep it in place. you'll find that letting the bow do more of the work than your own force will allow for a much more natural bow stroke, especially with bouncing!

  • thanks...i get yelled at for doing it wrong. my conductor was cool with it, but my teacher was bad.

  • Thanks Jason. I agree the bowing in the masterclass is hard to control.

  • its kinda sad. i left in on my chair in class to get my music out of my backpack and then my friend dropped the stand on it and then it crashed to the ground....i started to cry... may it rest in peace. but my parents got me a new bass and im in love with it!!! i dont let anyone touch it now lol

  • hey Jason what bowing did you use? 3dwns, 2 up, and up down? I can't tell cuz it's to fast. lol

  • for the bouncing part? I did umm

down up down up up down up. I did try that 3 downs one you wrote but I found the down up down one to be easier to control. But the 3 downs one is good too haha

  • awsum!!!!!!!!!! omg i wish i played like u!!!i was gonna try out for violin 2 or bass. but my violin just broke in half!!!!! ahhhhh i misss it. i know ur gonna make it!!!! GO SO CAL!!!!! HAHAH I LIVE HERE TOO but im in high school

  • how did you manage to break your violin in half?!? that's the most depressing thing i've heard in a while! :(

  • oh gosh

    you are amazing

    o///o

its not only listening, i liked watching you play...it was so expressive...um...gambatte(goodluck...but u dont really need it...)and i hope we can be friends...its all right if you dont want to though.

  • I look expressive when i play? really? when I watch myself play it just looks awkward as hell to me hahaha

  • This is good. But you are listening to the music one on headphones, aren't you? Is that allowed? They do specify two different videos (music for practice and NO music for audition)...

  • Yeah I was listening to the music on the headphones. I had read through the rules and it wasn't really clear whether they had an issue about that. I figured that they'd prioritize having people submit recordings with similar timing so as to actually be able to sync everyone together for the giant collaboration video. If it helps make the overall quality of the entry better, which it did for me, then I don't think they'll mind. At least I hope not haha!

  • very nice man, ive been playing guitar for 3 years but ive always thought playing something like violin would be awesome..im jealous haha

  • thanks! hey doesn't hurt to give it a try :P

  • omg dude your hair sry i lol'd

this is excellent too! i noticed you're plugged in to yr ipod or something - are you listening to the symphony w/ orchestra too? do you mind sharing where you d/led the track from? thanks!

  • oh i was plugged into my computer, the track is on one of the videos of Tan Dun conducting so I just listened along!

  • From one Trojan to another, you did awesome! I hope you get selected!

  • Thanks! Fight On!!!

  • well done, the composure is frankly quite good, how long have you been playing the violin? Very well done

  • haha thanks! i've been playing since i was about six I think!

  • very good ;)

  • hey!

you did very well. i don´t like the instrument violin cause most of the time it´s played no good in intonation. but that was good!

I tried it on my flute. my cam is so bad. and so I think i have no chance. what you mean? please watch it and tell me!

    thx

    Nadine

  • good job! i think you're going to make it!

=] i'm trying out on the flute...but i don't know how good my chances are, cause im only 13...so not a professional yet.

    anyways, good luck!

  • very good lol

    im trying out on cello

    ii had a question though

is there a required solo piece as well?

    jw

  • Well the solo piece (Video 2) isn't required, but that's what counts as your audition for the Carnegie Hall summit. Video 1 doesn't count as part of the audition, but you need to have it done in ORDER to audition. I'm starting to confuse myself. Is this making any sense haha

Go to the Prepare tab, select Cello and then the Video 2 tab for the list of recommended solo pieces. Ahhh I sound like their promo video

  • Absolutely wonderful. ^____^ I wish you luck~ Keep playing! x3

  • I will, thanks!!

  • Wow!! You're so smooth when you play, and you make every note sound so pretty! Best of luck to you, Mr. Yang. :) I wish I could audition, but my euphonium skills are fairly rusty!

  • Hahaha thanks!!

Rusty? Well you've got what..25 days to unrustify those euphonium skills? Plenty of time :)

  • Great job! The best timing, and best job so far on violin, I think. Are you listening to the piece in your earpiece, is your violin playing through the ear piece as well? I am planning to audition on Piccolo, by the way. When I listened to the Conductor's video with sound for Piccolo, there seems to be a delay between what he does visually and the recording. It would be very hard to do unless you could hear the part.

  • Hey thanks! Yes I was listening to the piece through the earpiece because, quite frankly, it is way too easy to get off tempo with just a virtual conductor and no reference instruments. I didn't use the earpiece as a monitor for my violin though, I just had my right earbud plugged straight into the laptop and left my left ear open to hear myself.

Yeah there were a few delay points between the conducting video/audio so I just took note of where they were and anticipated them accordingly.

  • hey jason! this is uh, jojo from eb?!?! LOL... i heard about this thing at school, and here you are! haha... good stuff ^^

  • wow..great,i think i cant do it..=[

  • Gorgeous. You make me wish I hadn't taken 10 years away from my violin!

  • you know, you could still give'em back!

  • out*

  • in out around up down the crapper

  • arg with people like you in there, theres no chance a simple lower advance violinist like me can get in..

  • that's not true! you've still got a month until the deadline. just keep practicing and then try recording a few takes!

  • Awesome job man! Hope to see you there if I get my video in on time! :P

  • thanks! haha you've still got plenty of time, no worries :)

  • What is that conducting program you have running?

  • Not a program, its the video of Tan Dun. D=

  • haha yeah, it's just the fullscreen youtube video of Tan Dun conducting so that my timing isn't all over the place. a program that has someone conduct me all the time would be pretty sick though...

  • oh my gosh! your soooo good! you are totally gonna get into the youtube symphony orchestra!

  • haha thanks, i hope so!

  • Good luck! Nice work btw!

  • sounds really good

i'm good friends with bill btw, i'm your neighbor at colburn :)

  • niiice!! what instrument do you play over at colburn?

    oh and thanks haha

  • i play cello :)

  • sweet. are you auditioning too?

  • hey, i'm a junior too! i hope we both make it. you're a lot better than me though...great job!

  • that was amazing beyond belief! =D

  • There's no way in hell that you won't get in. That was awesome.

  • anyways, i loved ur playing jason.

    i hope you get selected!

  • thanks man!

  • How do you do the richochet bowing? It's hard, and I have to make it like, bounce.

  • hmm i dunno i sort of just relax my arm and use my pinky to make sure the bow doesn't bounce all over the place haha

  • nooo talking!

  • you are so amazing!

  • It's sounds beautiful. I hope you get in!

Still practicing for my entry. =D

  • Your violin sounds great + recording quality is great too! :)

It's a very good idea to play with the conducting. I should try that...

    I hope you get in!

  • sounds great!

  • You shift on 110? I don't.

  • go to hell goodcommentdipshit.

    ur not special.

  • dude. no one cares.

  • Dude awesome. Hope you get in.

  • Nice top!

  • hey jason its dave cline from PYO! just found out about this ytso thing today. best of luck to you!
