Truth is truth. Bullshit is bullshit. Whether or not the bullshit is ancient is of no consequence. Its just such a shame that our mothers, fathers, and grandparents are mucked up in the ignorance of tradition. Just because they are told by their elders then it is true. But no reasoning or science was ever applied, so belief contains no real substance, just myth. But dont say that to a believer. They will tell the same thing they were told, but they actually believe it, and be offended.
To be fair, Rick Perry's prayer rally was explicitly admonished by Jesus in Matthew 6:5-6
“'When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.'"
For some reason, it has always annoyed me when people over emphasize the "m" or the "b" in the words "million" and "billion". And it happens so damn often...
I know I'm UK and you are USA, so I understand the Cultural reasons for you making this Video. I still don't know enough about the USA Religious-Political Scenario. I am religious, and I don't believe in the "Power of Prayer". Was it The Word of Faith movement who made that one up?
Anyway, over here; very few believe in "The Power of Prayer". If there is a God who can answer prayer, the prayer doesn't have "Power", and also it looks like God enjoys giving the middle finger a lot, haha.
@themsfightinwoids ~ Delusion and psychosis are two different things. Psychosis is an imbalance, causes illusions of Realism, and can be removed. Delusions tend to stick with people for life, and are not easily, by any means removed.
What some count as evidence, some count as madness. It's all over the place. Humans will be humans. We create meanings and purpose, and then all disagree over the place about who's "right" and who's "wrong".
We don't create truth. Reality and truth are independant of us, and are there for us to discover using objective scientific means. "Creating meaning" isn't justified without basis. Prayer has no empirical or evidentiary basis. It is meaningless unless someone can show that there actually is a god listening on the other end of the imagined telepathic phone line.
And delusions are a PART of psychosis. Look up the definition.
@themsfightinwoids ~ They use the word "Delusion" to mean different things. That's why I changed it to "Illusions" (when saying a non-psychotic person has a 'delusion', they use it in a different way in two different scenarios). Also, we are part of reality, and alter, to a degree external reality, this is why reality isn't independent. And as for truth, I know nothing of External Truth, only subjective truth.
@PangoliaDogg15 ~ I've talked with plenty of Mental Health Service people, including psychiatrists. If I am wrong, then so are they (people who can explain things better than a 6 word definition in a dictionary).
@themsfightinwoids ~ Oh, I'm not supporting Prayer. Though there is some Neuroimaging, Neuroscience evidence that it can do good to the individual. There is no empirical evidence, however, that it works in the way Christians keep saying it does.
hey thats not fair, I was in a plane crash. I prayed to god as the plane was going down and he saved my life. over 200 human failures (athieists & towelheads mostly) were smashed into smitherines. Thank the lord for saving me for he is good.
@hostyle0 i did actually ^.^ and it happened right after i clicked post. i was looking for a way to delete it then i just hoped you wouldn't respond..... ^.^;
Okay, okay, I've been avoiding commenting for a while because I got tired of arguing, but I've had a quandry lately. Everything that happens is part of god's plan, right? Also, many Christians use the phrase "if it be thy will" in their prayers. My question is: what's the point? If it's his plan, and you're asking him to do it only if he wants to, why ask? In the Christian scenario, isn't god going to do what god's going to do?
@MsLilithJS ~ There's a few (only a few) stories in the OT where God decides he doesn't really care about His own will that much and barters with *whoever it was* over what he was going to do.
I think it's some kind of Donnie Darko thing going of in the Biblical Scenario. Something like that, I don't know how to explain what I mean without going into 3000 word essays.
That was not prayer. That was the kind of prayer Jesus frowned upon. That was the prayer that is shown to men, and not to God. We should be constant in prayer. Prayer occurs when whoever would not even know you are praying at all to do the right thing. Open to the impressions on your mind teaching you what the KJV has taught you. Comparing line upon line precept upon precept here a little there a little helping you to be a non stone throwing Christian drawing all to you in love judging yourself.
And your point is..? One day of prayer might not solve all, or any of our problems..!!! allow me to illustrate: If you go to someones doorstep and knock on their door, they may not hear you the first time, so you knock again, and again they do not hear...So, maybe now you decide to ring the doorbell, and after several times of ringing it they finally open the door and ask, what do you need...? You see sir, persistence is what it takes...
At noon Elijah began to taunt them. "Shout louder!" he said. "Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened."
@VectorMatt Funny you say that because your scripture reminds me of one of my favorite Parables found in the book of Luke, chapter 18, to be exact...Our lesson starts at vs.1 and ends at vs. 8...Enjoy.!!!
@kalihiboy1000 Your analogy fails in every possible way. The being we're talking about here is omniscient according to that bible you like to quote. Therefore he would know you've prayed. Actually he would know you were gonna pray before he even created the earth what with there being "omni" in omniscient. And he's supposed to be omnibenevolent, so if your prayer is for something good he should have done it already. And he's omnipotent (still according to the bible) so he can do it. Stop the BS.
@gilless429 You forgot omnipresent like how he's standing beside you watching you write this foolishness, and all the while shaking his head as if to say, "my people perish due to the lack of knowledge..." Hosea 4:6...But anyway, back to our lesson, Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God,because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exist, and that He rewards those who EARNESTLY seek Him...UMMM, WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM...WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM..!!!
@kalihiboy1000 I didn't "forget" omnipresent. I just realized I'd already fucked your "argument" up so badly it won't walk for days so I decided to give it a rest without. Now, here's what I propose : if you want to keep debating on this, I'd gladly do it. But via PMs (Personal Messages). You seem to, like me have a propension to write a lot when you have a lot on your mind. Therefore if you want to keep talking about this I'd like to not do it on a 500 words per-comm limitation comment section.
@gilless429 You didn't screw anything up so badly, are you kidding me? See I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trust in him will never be put to shame. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, the stone that the builders rejected has become the capstone, and,a stone that causes men to stumble, and a rock that makes them fall...They stumble because they disobey the message- WHICH IS ALSO WHAT THEY WERE DESTINED FOR!!
@kalihiboy1000 Ok I get it. You're a stupid nutbag. I'm serious. I propose a better way to debate, in the way of PMs, and in passing I say something about some other thing you said. That passing part took about a quarter of my whole 500 or so words message, and yet that's all you took care of.
Then, like it or not, your analogies sound like a nutbag trying to demonstrate since there's no tiger around he's right in thinking putting bread around his bed keeps them away.
@gilless429 I don't want to PM you because you obviously have an anger problem which is displayed by your profanity and name calling through your previous post.Have you no shame.? Can't you make your point without this immaturity? I don't mean to insult you but, having a conversation with you is like having a conversation with a punk teenager know it all.! If you ARE a punk teenager know it all, then please accept my apology..? But then again, that would only prove that I'm correct once again.
@gilless429 Cont...That's 1 peter 2:4-8...You see my friend, people like you are "DESTINED TO FALL"....But to show how much I love you, I'll certainly pray for you and people like you..That's all, take care and God Bless...Really..!!!
@kalihiboy1000 I used to believe and I used to earnestly seek him.. I just got tired of my conversations with god being only one way. Turns out there are much better answers out there after you close that silly book.
@gilless429 Cont. That means diligently, continuously, continually...Your comment does not surprise me at all because just as millions of others, you think you are too intelligent and too smart for the things of God, but contrary to your way of thinking, the fact is, is that you're more ignorant than anything else...1 Corinthians 1:18-31 says it best, which in short says, " I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, the intelligence of the intelligent, I will frustrate..!!! "
I will allow the prayer fest, if we add a rain dance fest, Satan worship, and every other mumbo jumbo religionist activity, its only fair to give the other superstition nonsense.
I am happy to say that now in December, and only a week away from the Iowa caucus, Rick Perry is struggling to hang on to fourth place. It should be a harsh wake up call to the Rick Perry campaign, since possibly the WORST candidate, Newt Gingrich, is actually ahead of Slick Rick in the polls. Where are your prayers going now Rick??
Funny thing is, in the God Delusion i read TELLING people you are praying for them to get better when physically ill actually HURTS their chances of getting better. They feel they have to live up to some expectations and make themselves more stressed. In other cases prayer makes no difference.
@kingcarcas1349 Wow, some people will believe anything! I personally have been told people are praying for me and it has been a source of comfort and inspiration. You have to take it on a case by case basis.
I feel bad for DarkMatter. The fact that God does not affirmatively answer some, or even many, of our prayers doesn't mean prayer is a waste of time. God may simply have a good reason to say "No." That he misses this most obvious fact is a sure sign that he is interested only in justifying his own presuppositions. Perhaps he should check out Alexander Pruss' blog on Omnirationality.
I like you man. I can see your view of things. This is how God answers prayers: a person must stay out of sin, humble themselves and want to do the will of God which is, spreading the saving power of Jesus Christ, staying out of sin, and helping their fellow man so God can be glorified. We all live to glorify God whether a person likes it or not. The change comes when more people turn to Jesus Christ for remission of sins. Without this, things will just get worse
I PRAY for you my friend the bible clearly states in John 10:10 the DEVIL comes to kill steal and destroy. he is still mad because when he challenged GOD...who sent his son to die for you , so you can be forgiven for thinking the way you do, .threw him out of heaven...IN LUKE 10:18 LUKE says he SAW satan fall from heaven. this was in a display from God to him revealing his truth. DO YOU not understand that as soon as the devil has you fully convinved that there is NO GOD, he has won your soul..
believe in Him just like a thing which is seen.. believe in Him like you believe that the sun will rise every morning believe in Him like u believe that u are alive.. He wants us to believe in an unseen force with as much trust as a seen force, If u still think that its all 'Religious Crap' then You're the most foolish person on the planet Prayers do come true at a price that the person will show dedication in the work he's praying for otherwise Its just useless
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
To all the Atheists out there we all have a choice some of the people adopt Buddism some Christianity some Islam & some Hinduism these video won't make a difference how ,any people will u make atheist? 1000000? Ur not making any difference the thing that u don't see is that God's knowledge is infinite the Almighty is not bound by the laws of physics because He created it & He wants u to believe in Him
@Obee999 Considering your "God" is all-powerful and everything he wishes will be done, if he wants me to believe in him, then why don't I? About what you said about prayer coming true only if they show dedication to the work to which they are praying for, don't you think that it might just be the dedication that getting things done and not the prayer part?
@TheStrangZor He wants us to have faith in him yes. But he has given u a free will to choose between good & bad don't u see? This world is just a test to judge if we really do deserve heaven or not this is the true meaning of life. & if u pray & stick to ur plan with efforts & surely u'll be a success! have u ever prayed??
@Obee999 So you are saying if I worked really hard for a promotion and prayed once, it is all because of the prayer that i got it. If I didn't pray, but just work hard, the I would never get it? And I did pray when I was a little kid and didn't know any better. Then I realized that it worked just as much as statistical chance. Also, explain this video and how that outcome happened
@TheStrangZor All I'm saying is that Prayers have their power About the promotion thing yes ur absolutely correct u CAN get a promotion even without praying but the statistical chances of a particular outcome prayed for is increased after the prayer, prayer is a boost from God Himself which gives us a hidden power, a motivation, also called 'spirit' its because of that spirit that we achieve the objective & if u've prayed then to whom have u prayed? I mean what religion.
@Obee999 Say that there are 100 religious people who are all stricken with cancer that has a 50% survival rate. (Why would they get cancer anyways if god loved them?) If everyone prayed and had their whole family pray, then 50% of them would survive. A coincidence? I think not. I was considered a christian i suppose, I really never did care
@TheStrangZor It makes no difference whether you're religious or not death is inevitable God chooses how a person will die its His will & cannot be changed by prayers because no one can persuade God to change His will.. Christianity is basically derived from Islam, therefore Islam is the one true religion
@Obee999 There are many religious people who would probably kill you for saying that. Because I'm atheist, I don't care what you call the true religion, because I don't believe it. It's obvious that I can't change your mind and you are too far stuck in your ways, so go ahead and continue on with your life and then we will see, won't we?
@TheStrangZor Umm I'm pretty sure that I would b slaughtered in the street by other religions but I speak with proof
Yeah I know u can't convince me I can't convince u either.. So all the best for ur life.. may u be granted heaven.. OK tell me this.. If there isn't a God then how did this enormous ever expanding universe came into being??
@Obee999 You already know what I'm going to say, I'm going with science and saying the Big Bang. I know you will say that's impossible, and that it is way more likely that some guy waved his hand and it all came to existence.
@TheStrangZor I knew U'd say that.. & i agree.. but who initiated the Big bang?? it didn't start on its own.. there must b a vital force behind it.. I mean every action has a reaction Newton's 3rd law..
@TheStrangZor Do u believe in heaven or hell? do u think we are created without a purpose & without a reason ? don't u ever wonder who created us ? all these religions who is right who is wrong ? do u ever notice it how Muslims pray how Christians pray & how do Buddhists pray .. all so different in spite of the fact that they all are of the same species same race?
@Obee999 Then who created god? Every action has a reaction. No heaven nor hell, just death. If we live forever in heaven, the what is the purpose? Our life has purpose because it is finite. Also if Adam and Eve were both white, how did the other races come about? Did you notice how every god just so happens to speak the language of the country? It's because each god is a man-made construct
@TheStrangZor The answer to this is known by the God alone Its said by the Almighty Himself in Qur'an :"And the knowledge which we have given you is very less"
Adam & Eve were White?! Cmon Give me a break.. on what basis are you saying they were white??
Yeah Every God just happen to speak the Native Language,, I only speak for Islam, its because to deliver God's Message via His messenger if the Messenger doesn't understand the language of God then how would he Spread God's religion?
@TheStrangZor Furthermore God created heaven & hell to judge who is right & who is wrong..this world is finite but the life in heaven is Infinite everlasting there we will be given immortality as a reward of our deeds here in this world.
First of, I don't know about you, but my mother and father "created" me. Secondly, christianity has been around for how long? For like 1500 years? The human as a species has been around for like 200 000 to 10 000 years. Religions are often created to lead a group of people, to keep them in check. As societies rise religions sprout and as the society fall so does the religion. Religion is used to controll the poor and frightened, and in a sense religion is our deadliest WMD.
@Humbaah Well Duh.. Its obvious that everyone's parents "created" their offspring. I'm talking about the whole humanity.. if u look in the past before Christianity still people have religion similar to Christianity & I don't consider your theory credible.. so go away & come back with some credibility
@Humbaah I am confused ... why are you saying this in the form of a reply to an Atheist channel, i would think those would be pretty much obvious to any of us.
Maybe you need to find some theist channels to post this ? ... might get noticed by more theists :)
@Obee999 If god wanted to make me a believer he could leave behind a little evidence, thats really all I ever wanted. I actually think if there is any form of god he will be more impressed with those that look for information rather than those who just blindly follow what they were taught as children.
@aphoxema I know why too. That many people in one place praying for something from him when he has a "master plan" in the works seems to always piss him off.
@aphoxema It should. Because if god (generously accepting the notion he might exist) is anything like the Christians portray him, this kind of selfish, egocentric and by extension greedy kind of prayer (not mentioning that most of it totally has 0 to do with the supposed message), could only awoke his wrath! Peace out!
I love how as I read the comments, all I see is brainwashed theists attempting to support their beleifs by spewing out meaningless bible verse after bible verse.
It's easy to explain all that. God is angry cause we aren't a christian nation so he's fucking us up. How do I know? Strangers on TV and radio said so.
@Theocratickingdom30 I knew if I quoted Jesus, you would say I took it out of context. It's like a knee-jerk reaction with theists. The Bible is so full of contradictions I could pretty much quote anything from it and there would be a quote against it. Deuteronomy 18:15-68 is a fine piece of God's love, disprove that.
@mrquinnie429 I think you might have meant to say Deuteronomy 28:15-68. Wanted to point that out in case the person your responding to didn't put two and two together and look for the book that had 68 verses :)
@TempleOfInanna2 Thanks, I didn't notice until you pointed it out, I don't think he's going to respond though, they usually don't when I bring out that chapter or Deuteronomy & Leviticus in general ;)
@theocratickingdom30 Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
@mrquinnie429: Lesson 1 in hermeneutics. When dealing with a subject. Find out what the entirety of Holy Writ has to say about that subject. Otherwise you look ignorant as you just did. James 4 requires we must ask with godly motives. Not the blank check you just implied like some Charasmatic. Lesson 1 in prayer: Prayer is ordained by God as a means to accomplish His will. Not ours. If you bothered studying the subject you would know that (1 John 5:14).
@mrquinnie429: You don't even seem to understand what the entire context is about which is sanctification and the sovereignty of God in such matters. Not some blank check God gives us so we can have whatever we want. This is what happens when an atheist quotes Scripture. You look foolish because you don't even treat it as any other book. Try reading Ephesians 1 or better yet, Romans 9. Apply those chapters to a theology of prayer. Read Proverbs 15:8-9. God hates the prayer of the wicked.
From a Reformed Christian perspective, why would God hear such a prayer? The prayer is made out of completely self-serving motives. Scripture also states God only hears prayers from those in union with Christ that obey His commandments. The video may deal with other religions. It is useless in disproving anything regarding the Triune God. And who says God has to answer their prayers? This video is as ignorant as usual.
Another funny thing that happened was that during an atheist convention in Texas, it started raining, ending the drought, a drought that got worse when rick perry prayed. God loves atheists :)
well the standard answer is that god's answer is not always the one expected. we all know that god works in mysterious ways and he also likes to test people. so there you have it. when it says 'ask, and you shall receive', it should say 'ask and you shall receive something, often times the opposite of what you asked for'.
even the greatest of logics make no sense to a fool... that is why no matter how intelligent us atheists are we will never be able to convince the retarded religious majority of people about anything
@thealltedrygt I'm not sure that's entirely true. It's more a psychological problem than anything, which is very subjective in nature. With some it takes no more than a single conversation to break them of their psychosis, and with the really stubborn ones it could take years and years. Only the certifiably insane ones are hopelessly lost.
Never say never! Since the rise of the internet we've seen an increase of around 10% of secular beliefs in this country. Coincidence?
You, my friend, are an incredibly lucid, persuasive and — above all — THOUGHTFUL breath of fresh air online. I support you fully and have subscribed to this and your other channel.
Very entertaining Vid & comments all. Let me add one more "heavy" hypothesis that may be to the same impressive logic as DarkAantics. Human psych is so WANTING an explanation, a WHY and REASON, or a SIGNIFICANCE to ITS unimportant-trivial existence, that It (psych) creates GOD and must defend IT. Even putting blame on Itself (the psych) is a cleaver supporting (twisted) self indulging sense of significance to its existence. Would DarkAntics or others elaborate more on this idea.
That Perry sure did piss off some higher power. Perhaps God thought Perry was narrow minded, enough to think that God would change his Plan just because Perry and a few others asked him to, and struck America with his almighty wrath. Just like you would expect Yahweh to react.
He was probably even more pissed off by knowing Perry's intention: that he used the event to forward his presidential campaign. I know I'd be pissed if I were in God's sandals right now.
Prayer doesn't do shit. Happy coincidences maybe? That's what it turns out to be, either one way or the other. If the drought had stopped then they would all be praising god right now, but since shit only got worse (coincidence, nothing more) theists aren't saying anything.
@makaiallensmith: You missed the point, he is not saying prayer makes it worse. He is saying prayer does not work... His point is that the world was shitty before the prayer and remained shitty after the prayer. The politician goes around saying prayer will fix America's problems when we know that is not true.
" The Power of Prayer" ............. LOL this guy is never heard of the Third World Countries? they pray every day.. Where is GOD now!? O, oke i understand, GOD is racists... lol.. B*tch Please, stop fooling your self with the GOD Myth,
To all the people who think God has a Plan but who also advocate prayer:
Why should what you want influence God to change his Plan? If he's all-knowing etc., he's obviously thought of everything. How about being a good Christian, doing what you're told and leaving the Plan up to the Planner?
@Fighterz76 my close friends are atheist? what the hell.. that sounded like the 'i have black friends anology... it's funny when you say false god but your god is real, i wonder how you know... is it from the magical book that was rewritten by desert goat herders.. for an all powerful whom created the galaxy and cares about who you have sex with, he sure have some communication issues couldn't he just come on CNN and said that i'm god.. oh wait there's a word for those people "crazy"
@Fighterz76 ohh yeah you know the bible... you know about the part where god decrees someone who is the victim of rape shall marry the rapist... of course you know that part... i'll bet your response is not "wow that's pretty f@ck up why couldn't god decree that people shouldn't rape each other because it's wrong" but i'll bet your answer will be "that was the time back then people had different morale" apology apology... wow what an all loving god...
Hey Rick Perry, if you want the presidency so bad, why not just pray for it? Why bother showing up to debates or doing any campaigning? Isn't your god powerful enough to magically put your name on the ballots and into everyone's heads? Where is your prayer rally now? Fail.
That was perfect!I am sending this to my Dad(born again christian)He will actually listen to a man,he will disagree but at least he'll listen.35 and still have my trust fund held because I'm a blues singer and an addiction peer counselor and I have two bastard kids and I live in sin with a guy who isn't either of my teen kids fathers....such sin I have!He was a musician, now only does christian rock! He's always trying to convert me!Help!lolI don't care to change anyone,I just want my money!Ha!
My friend this only proves that God answered americans prayers. Perhaps u should take the hint and stop projecting on to him marketing tactics to sell a candidate. PS crossreffrence all of those things consequances and u will find out that over 81% of the ppl envolved in that " day " have been afected by those tragedys u mentioned. This is proof of God because something quantifyable happend. Can't wait for more to pray, as u will learn ASK FOR NOTHING
I hate being an atheist... right now... my girlfriend left me; because we were not spiritually connected (whatever the f@ck that means), if my parents found out i was an atheist i would be ostracized.. i have no atheist friends.. the only people who are atheist around my town are old hippy people... i would like to say thanks a lot "REASONING" you have left me friendless, girlfriendless, and scare of my parent approval less. (i wish i was being sarcastic)... atheism sucks
@20jandrews The truth about life sucks often--most of the time, in fact. Questions of theism are far from the only questions where this rule applies. I know what you're saying, though. I'm in rural central North Carolina. It's even more rednecktacular than you might think. I was pretty outspoken about Jesus freakery in high school, but it's easier just to keep it to myself nowadays. My boss is on the board of directors or some such shit at his church, and so on and so on.
@DuhIdiot1 and the "NOT thinking for you was a joke also"... it's one of those things atheist say to Christians when they say "I’ll pray for you" you reply "I’ll be thinking for you"... in your case I say "i will NOT be thinking for you" because you can do that for yourself... you know we atheist don't have a universal language; someone should write a book about an atheist guide to jovial banter

@DuhIdiot1 ... Chapter 1: when you sneeze and an apologist say "god bless you" you should reply 1) he might have. 2) Which one Zeus because I really don't like Zeus. 3) Allah o Akbar (don't say that at an airport) 4) fill in the blanks and so on and so on

Fuck he would be the last person on earth i'd ever vore for anything more influental than the hobo on the corner of the street.. I want my president to get his hands on the problems and solve them with effort and intelligence.. not to clap his hands together, drop on his knees and ask his imaginary psychopath friend for help.
Rick Perry makes me feel ashamed to live in Texas.

So maybe Jesus was mad at Rick Perry.

Prayer means believing that you are telepathically communicating with an undetectable omnipotent magic wizard.
This meets the definition of psychosis (as a severe dellusion that impairs one's perception of reality).
Someday it will finally be widely recognized as such.
The universe does not give a speck of evidence for ANYTHING supernatural, INCLUDING gods that intervene if you beg hard enough.
themsfightinwoids 2 weeks ago 2
@themsfightinwoids ~ Delusion and psychosis are two different things. Psychosis is an imbalance, causes illusions of Realism, and can be removed. Delusions tend to stick with people for life, and are not easily, by any means removed.
What some count as evidence, some count as madness. It's all over the place. Humans will be humans. We create meanings and purpose, and then all disagree over the place about who's "right" and who's "wrong".
PangoliaDogg15 2 weeks ago
@PangoliaDogg15 "We create meanings and purpose"
We don't create truth. Reality and truth are independant of us, and are there for us to discover using objective scientific means. "Creating meaning" isn't justified without basis. Prayer has no empirical or evidentiary basis. It is meaningless unless someone can show that there actually is a god listening on the other end of the imagined telepathic phone line.
And delusions are a PART of psychosis. Look up the definition.
themsfightinwoids 2 weeks ago
@themsfightinwoids ~ They use the word "Delusion" to mean different things. That's why I changed it to "Illusions" (when saying a non-psychotic person has a 'delusion', they use it in a different way in two different scenarios). Also, we are part of reality, and alter, to a degree external reality, this is why reality isn't independent. And as for truth, I know nothing of External Truth, only subjective truth.
PangoliaDogg15 2 weeks ago
@PangoliaDogg15 ~ I've talked with plenty of Mental Health Service people, including psychiatrists. If I am wrong, then so are they (people who can explain things better than a 6 word definition in a dictionary).

WTF?
Give me an example. You sound like a Chopra sycophant.
Show some balls and say something concrete for a change, instead of hazy apologetics for mysticism and supersticious thinking.
themsfightinwoids 2 weeks ago
@themsfightinwoids ~ Example~ you are real, and not unreal. So, are you not part of reality, not made of atoms?
We alter reality external to our minds, your PC you use is a solid example of that that you can touch.
I am not a fan of Chopra, he is a medical doctor claiming authority in places (metaphysics, etc) where he's isn't qualified.

@PangoliaDogg15 So what relevance does your response have to your support of prayer?
themsfightinwoids 2 weeks ago
@themsfightinwoids ~ Oh, I'm not supporting Prayer. Though there is some Neuroimaging, Neuroscience evidence that it can do good to the individual. There is no empirical evidence, however, that it works in the way Christians keep saying it does.

MsLilithJS 1 month ago 17
@MsLilithJS ~ There's a few (only a few) stories in the OT where God decides he doesn't really care about His own will that much and barters with *whoever it was* over what he was going to do.

@kalihiboy1000 So your god doesn't actually hear every prayer?
I'm reminded of a different verse from the bible:
First Kings 18:27
At noon Elijah began to taunt them. "Shout louder!" he said. "Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened."

Stop the BS.
gilless429 1 month ago 2
@gilless429 You forgot omnipresent like how he's standing beside you watching you write this foolishness, and all the while shaking his head as if to say, "my people perish due to the lack of knowledge..." Hosea 4:6...But anyway, back to our lesson, Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God,because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exist, and that He rewards those who EARNESTLY seek Him...UMMM, WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM...WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM..!!!
kalihiboy1000 1 month ago
@kalihiboy1000 I didn't "forget" omnipresent. I just realized I'd already fucked your "argument" up so badly it won't walk for days so I decided to give it a rest without. Now, here's what I propose : if you want to keep debating on this, I'd gladly do it. But via PMs (Personal Messages). You seem to, like me have a propension to write a lot when you have a lot on your mind. Therefore if you want to keep talking about this I'd like to not do it on a 500 words per-comm limitation comment section.
gilless429 1 month ago
@gilless429 You didn't screw anything up so badly, are you kidding me? See I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trust in him will never be put to shame. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, the stone that the builders rejected has become the capstone, and,a stone that causes men to stumble, and a rock that makes them fall...They stumble because they disobey the message- WHICH IS ALSO WHAT THEY WERE DESTINED FOR!!
kalihiboy1000 1 month ago
@kalihiboy1000 Ok I get it. You're a stupid nutbag. I'm serious. I propose a better way to debate, in the way of PMs, and in passing I say something about some other thing you said. That passing part took about a quarter of my whole 500 or so words message, and yet that's all you took care of.
Then, like it or not, your analogies sound like a nutbag trying to demonstrate since there's no tiger around he's right in thinking putting bread around his bed keeps them away.
You're ridiculous. Bye.

I feel bad for DarkMatter. The fact that God does not affirmatively answer some, or even many, of our prayers doesn't mean prayer is a waste of time.

To all the Atheists out there we all have a choice some of the people adopt Buddism some Christianity some Islam & some Hinduism these video won't make a difference how ,any people will u make atheist? 1000000? Ur not making any difference the thing that u don't see is that God's knowledge is infinite the Almighty is not bound by the laws of physics because He created it & He wants u to believe in Him
Obee999 3 months ago
@Obee999 Considering your "God" is all-powerful and everything he wishes will be done, if he wants me to believe in him, then why don't I? About what you said about prayer coming true only if they show dedication to the work to which they are praying for, don't you think that it might just be the dedication that getting things done and not the prayer part?
TheStrangZor 3 months ago
@TheStrangZor He wants us to have faith in him yes. But he has given u a free will to choose between good & bad don't u see? Obee999 3 months ago
TheStrangZor 3 months ago
@TheStrangZor All I'm saying is that Prayers have their power About the promotion thing yes ur absolutely correct u CAN get a promotion even without praying but the statistical chances of a particular outcome prayed for is increased after the prayer, prayer is a boost from God Himself which gives us a hidden power, a motivation, also called 'spirit' its because of that spirit that we achieve the objective & if u've prayed then to whom have u prayed? I mean what religion.
Obee999 3 months ago
@Obee999 Say that there are 100 religious people who are all stricken with cancer that has a 50% survival rate. (Why would they get cancer anyways if god loved them?) TheStrangZor 3 months ago
@TheStrangZor It makes no difference whether you're religious or not death is inevitable God chooses how a person will die its His will & cannot be changed by prayers because no one can persuade God to change His will.. Christianity is basically derived from Islam, therefore Islam is the one true religion
Obee999 3 months ago
@Obee999 There are many religious people who would probably kill you for saying that. Because I'm atheist, I don't care what you call the true religion, because I don't believe it. Obee999 3 months ago
@Obee999 Then who created god? Every action has a reaction. No heaven nor hell, just death. If we live forever in heaven, the what is the purpose? Our life has purpose because it is finite. It's because each god is a man-made construct

@TheStrangZor The answer to this is known by the God alone Its said by the Almighty Himself in Qur'an :"And the knowledge which we have given you is very less"

The human as a species has been around for like 200 000 to 10 000 years. Religions are often created to lead a group of people, to keep them in check. As societies rise religions sprout and as the society fall so does the religion. Religion is used to controll the poor and frightened, and in a sense religion is our deadliest WMD.

Not ours. If you bothered studying the subject you would know that (1 John 5:14).
theocratickingdom30 4 months ago
@mrquinnie429: You don't even seem to understand what the entire context is about which is sanctification and the sovereignty of God in such matters. Not some blank check God gives us so we can have whatever we want. This is what happens when an atheist quotes Scripture. You look foolish because you don't even treat it as any other book. Try reading Ephesians 1 or better yet, Romans 9. Apply those chapters to a theology of prayer. Read Proverbs 15:8-9. God hates the prayer of the wicked.
theocratickingdom30 4 months ago
From a Reformed Christian perspective, why would God hear such a prayer? The prayer is made out of completely self-serving motives. Scripture also states God only hears prayers from those in union with Christ that obey His commandments. The video may deal with other religions. It is useless in disproving anything regarding the Triune God. And who says God has to answer their prayers? This video is as ignorant as usual.

well the standard answer is that god's answer is not always the one expected. we all know that god works in mysterious ways and he also likes to test people. so there you have it. when it says 'ask, and you shall receive', it should say 'ask and you shall receive something, often times the opposite of what you asked for'.

thealltedrygt 4 months ago 27
@thealltedrygt I'm not sure that's entirely true. It's more a psychological problem than anything, which is very subjective in nature. With some it takes no more than a single conversation to break them of their psychosis, and with the really stubborn ones it could take years and years. Only the certifiably insane ones are hopelessly lost.
Never say never! Since the rise of the internet we've seen an increase of around 10% of secular beliefs in this country. Coincidence?

You're right. Prayers do nothing. Now to actually convince the christians of this... hehe.

Not that it'll do any good, but if Perry is elected president, I'm going to start praying.

Do you try to sound like Carl Sagan when saying "Mee-illion or Bee-illion"? Or do you do it habitually like myself?

so this is what you look like? always wondered.

If the drought had stopped then they would all be praising god right now, but since shit only got worse (coincidence, nothing more) theists aren't saying anything.
utfishman115 4 months ago
So everything was fine and dandy before the prayer i guess?
makaiallensmith 4 months ago
@makaiallensmith: You missed the point, he is not saying prayer makes it worse. He is saying prayer does not work... His point is that the world was shitty before the prayer and remained shitty after the prayer. The politician goes around saying prayer will fix America's problems when we know that is not true.

" The Power of Prayer" ............. LOL this guy is never heard of the Third World Countries? they pray every day.. Where is GOD now!? O, oke i understand, GOD is racists... lol.. B*tch Please, stop fooling your self with the GOD Myth,
Sizomu 4 months ago
To all the people who think God has a Plan but who also advocate prayer:
Why should what you want influence God to change his Plan? If he's all-knowing etc., he's obviously thought of everything. How about being a good Christian, doing what you're told and leaving the Plan up to the Planner?

Hey Rick Perry, if you want the presidency so bad, why not just pray for it? Why bother showing up to debates or doing any campaigning? Isn't your god powerful enough to magically put your name on the ballots and into everyone's heads? Where is your prayer rally now? Fail.

20jandrews 5 months ago
@20jandrews The truth about life sucks often--most of the time, in fact. Questions of theism are far from the only questions where this rule applies. I know what you're saying, though. I'm in rural central North Carolina. It's even more rednecktacular than you might think. I was pretty outspoken about Jesus freakery in high school, but it's easier just to keep it to myself nowadays. My boss is on the board of directors or some such shit at his church, and so on and so on.
I'll not pray for you.

Fuck he would be the last person on earth i'd ever vore for anything more influental than the hobo on the corner of the street.. I want my president to get his hands on the problems and solve them with effort and intelligence.. not to clap his hands together, drop on his knees and ask his imaginary psychopath friend for help.
