  • i remember there was a burton snowboard video with this track in one part, had it on vhs. i almost forgot this song, but now here it is :)

  • firehouse is not forgotten brah..

  • So glad they are back.

  • People who *only* associate this song with the Streets on Fire skate vid, are nearly as dumb as the people who only associate "Corona" with Jackass...

  • Just to settle this - The song's about Ed Crawford himself. (Written by Watt) Must've taken balls to play with Watt and Hurley after the legendary D. Boon's tragic death. ("There are doubts in your ability...")

  • NataS SataN

  • Drummer has the dumbest hair ever.

  • @RyleeStrange I don't know... Sanajaya Malakar had some pretty stupid looking hair.

  • @RyleeStrange george hurley can get away with anything boy

  • Mike watt is the man!

  • His bass playing reminds me of Mike Joyce's from the Smiths. Firehose is a very good band.. highly overlooked imho.

  • its about Natas kaupas on the fire hydrant

  • This song is about you!Wake up zombies

  • fuck mtv, go fIREHOSE

  • I didn't realize Corey Feldman fronted fIREHOSE.

  • @astronautagogo that's corey HAIM you dummy

  • na, this song is for obama.

  • This song is about Reagan because REAGAN FUCKING SUCKED.

  • @pbrick6301 I don't think this song is about Reagan anymore, but in my view, Gorbachev was the instrumental figure in ending the cold war with his Perestroika policies. Also, Reagan's people made an Arms for Hostages deal to keep the hostages IN CAPTIVITY in Iran until the moment Reagan was sworn in. In other words the Reagan in your head is even more of a media creation than the one that appeared opposite of Bonzo the Chimp on the big screen.

  • @iburl i am not ruling out that you could be 100% correct.

sometimes i have problems w/ the truth. i do not trust the truth.

    great song nonetheless.

  • @iburl This "October Surprise" conspiracy theory was debunked 20 years ago. There's simply no evidence for it. I think the Iranians waited until inauguration day 1981 to release the hostages just to make Carter look bad.

  • @kp13822 I wouldn't say debunked, as much as officially covered up. Reagan administration later sold arms to Iran, and former Iranian President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, former Naval intelligence officer and National Security Council member Gary Sick and former Reagan/Bush campaign and White House staffer Barbara Honegger have stood by the allegations. They would know.

  • yo! it's just a cool song to skate to...i really don't think there's any sorta conspiracy behind it...just grab your board and go skate.

  • @pbrick6301 It depends how old you are I was born in 1968,so it`s LBJ in my opinion.Yes theres vietnam but his work in pushing through the civil rights act was the most important work a President did since FDR.Kennedy gets the credit for the act but it was Johnson who used his senate/house contacts to push it through against incredible opposition.Without the act the US would have had a reputation similar to South Africa in the 70s and 80s.

  • Loved this song since Streets on fire.

  • TarBabies, too.

  • natas cupas!!!!!!!!

  • @sk8erjesus natas kapas

  • Wow Ed is so small !

  • fIREHOSE forever...a great follow-up to the Minutemen, who would've taken over the world!

  • Ed looks kind of like a lesbian here

  • Mike watt rocks!

  • Ed looks like Gram Parsons. (That's not a bad thing.)

Bet Watt wishes he still had that bass.

  • SST class!

  • this always makes me think of Natas

  • @zodiacchiller Streets on Fire...right on!

  • @zodiacchiller Hell yeah, spinnin on the fire hydrant, rail sliding the that truck's roll bar. They don't make skaters like that anymore!

  • streets of fire yo!

  • @zodiacchiller

Fuck yeah! What the hell video was that? I mainly remember the ollie to ridiculous spin on top of a fire hydrant

  • @Sally2Dix "Streets on Fire"

  • Damn Watt. I wonder bad his fingers hurt after his done playing.

  • What the hell is this shite!!.. I was looking for "Firehouse" dammit!!

  • @turbocretin

    ]

    FIREHOUSE IS GAY....FIREHOSE IS NOT!

  • @cmonty72 lol but i don't like firehouse and i like firehose and i'm gay! what's the problem doctor? lol

  • that drummer is damn cool, and the bassist sure is rippin in this song

  • they need to turn this song in to a captain morgan tv ad. Natas Kaupas skating Venice Beach that is what i remember most about this song meeting his friend in jail. great video good times.

  • We need to thank our brave Captain Crawford for pulling Watt and Hurley back into action

  • The singer totally looks like jeff tweedy

  • Ohio Skateout!

LEt's hear it for Neil Blender!

  • Love it, always have, but DAMN can Watt stroke that thunder broom!

  • Amazing!!

  • Me too with the Natas Kaupas skating Venice Beach thing. Thank you very much for posting this. That video with this song meant the world to me back in the day.

  • Ahh the good old days love this band!!!

  • wait.. mtv played music videos???

  • filmed in San Pedro at the White Sands nike missile base, near Friendship Park and the Korean bell.

  • ITS JUST NOT THE SAME WITHOUT D BOON

  • never found someone who love such things like this in Indonesia

  • Awesome song & album even after all these years. I remember seeing these guys only once many moons ago at Rajis in Hollywood. Back then there was no internet like the way these snot-nosed kids enjoy now so it was more difficult to keep track of certain bands you liked....on a separate note: George Hurley had the coolest hair.

  • wow dumbass 120 mins put firehouse in the begininng.

  • @partywithmepunker i wish the same thing.

  • Does anyone remember the group Gone? They were a side project of Greg Ginn, guitarist for Black Flag. They had a killer song called "Watch The Tractor" that I'd love to find here. Just the audio would be fine. Anybody ever hear it or see it on YT anywhere?

  • Mike Watt is a monster on the 4-string Mother Fucker! Tons 'o talent in this band. They came and went much too fast.

  • seen em wow hall - eugene or. also at a small college in portland or. I snuck in.

  • Fuck me thats amazing, Watt is so much more than just a punk bass player.Shit, the chillis devoted a whole album to him.And the one that everyone knows too!

  • i haven't seen this vid or heard the song in over 15 years, this morning i woke up with it playing in my head

  • Mike Watt`s bass ; )

  • Name of the song is not "Brave Captain"

  • @jcosswald

No? On my vinyl, cassette and CD copy of Ragin Full-On it's the opening track and called "Brave Captain".

  • i thought George and Watt were in the Minutemen

  • @JGsk8s

yup. D.Boon died and Ed fROMOHIO got them back to jamming

  • @JamesHartBassist well they're both good bands, Minutemen and fIREHOUSE

  • bring back the old days of sk8ing

  • Gonna have to revisit my Santa Cruz box set me thinks!!!

  • Is that a pic of Kira on Mike's bass?

  • yeah its tight

  • yea!!! go firehose and natas kaupas

  • damn it.. there was an ad in signapore showing Firehose coming to singapoer.. then when i saaw the ad realised it was firhouse.. fucking disappointment..

  • @PowerChild09 I know right? If i saw ed georgie and Mike come together again would be fucking awesome

  • I don't think I've ever heard a better rhythm section than George Hurley and Mike Watt; this and Minutemen's 'Viet Nam' will prove my point!

  • @arnoldtheduck Fuck yes.

  • this shit rocks

  • @rawisangel YES

  • This song will always remind me of Natas skatin' Venice Beach.

  • I really glad my dad grew up in soCal. He introduced me to fIREHOSE and the Minutemen. Told me tons of stories about him meeting Watt. He sounds like a really cool guy. I just wish i could see them live with Boon.

  • @CurlyMoe94 Ya...my dad was from Pedro, and me and him are still here! My dad went to school with Boon, Watt, and Hurley. Infact, if you visit my channel, I got to play with watt twice! If you get the chance, tell me what you think!

  • hm the lyrics are nothing of the sort to boons but its still awesome.

  • This is one of my favorite things about YouTube. Vids I killed myself trying to get my hands on which was usually a copy of a copy of a copy....all that's now at my fingertips! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Maybe I'm a wierdo, but I absolutely LOVE Firehose, but I don't really care for the Minutemen.

  • @hoodedcobracommander fIREHOSE*

  • ...this song brings back some great skating memories!!! By the way I am from Sydney. This band was fucking cool!!

  • This aint no picnic :) opps wrong video

    Same Mike Watts

  • OH at the end...i can tell Korean Bell...D

  • where was this filmed?

  • Minutemen were an incredible band that can't be replaced. But fIREHOSE almost does.

  • cool stuff

  • I don't know other bands like this right now, but if I can be so bold, I am a product of this music and my band is very different, but we're called Mother Red from Buffalo NY. Free album available, just get googlin.

fIREHOSE reunion (and new album please)!!!!!!

  • any one kno other bands like this

  • @mosnotdef1 humm, well..... maybe.... Minutemen, Mike Watt, Book of Knots, Dinosaur Jr., Meat Puppets, Screaming Trees, Pixies, Dos, Vida ?

  • Pixies? idk dude, their a little too weird to placed in the same category

  • @iburl Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Butthole Surfers, Pussy Galore, Lady Gaga (kidding)

  • @iburl yep, i'm a fan of Screaming Trees and Dinosaur Jr. also there's a banda called Excuse 17, known as riot grrls, that their sound in some song are like Dinosaur Jr's

  • @iburl minutemen definitely. dinosaur and dinosaur jr. were a bit more grungey and less funky bass. the screaming trees were even more garage sounding to me. im thinking probably more fishbone direction, but i think it depends on whether its the bass of the vocals they are looking for.

  • @iburl Love them all.

  • @iburl also, thier later stuff kinda sounds like REM

  • @iburl decendents

  • @iburl

I saw this Video a few months ago on 120 mins. never seen it before or heard of the band, damn I missed some good stuff years ago, but i am a fan now! never have seen the video again wonder why........

  • @mosnotdef1 Don't forget the Breeders (and you could do Fugazi to)

  • @mosnotdef1 victim's family

  • @mosnotdef1 Go to SST records and get a catalog

  • @mosnotdef1 yeah, I can recommand the 3rd Meat Puppets album Up on the Sun.

ofcourse not the same, but when I heard firehose i thought cool, thts qite similar to this album...

and by the way, you might know it yet, the second track of this firehose album is called under the influence of meat puppets

  • @mosnotdef1 Husker Du, Black Flag, Hot Club De Paris

  • @mosnotdef1 gang of four

  • @mosnotdef1

also check out: the cry, wonderful broken thing, sub society...

  • NATAS KAUPAS!!!!!!

  • Wheels of fire rules and Natas was the best part, and a great song to skate to!

  • Nice Vistalite kit. Watt's the man...

  • Reform this band! Watt- sort it out or i'll stick yo' thunder boom spiel stick up iggys anus!

  • santa cruz // speed wheels skate videos

  • this has a wicked chorus.

  • sweet bassline

  • MTV have made the house/hose mistake here and Santa Cruz made the same mistake on Streets of Fire, they should know better!

  • jesus, its funny i've been trying to make music this good for ten years and i don't have a hope. haha

  • lol @ the drummer's hair

  • i always loved this vid. in the middle of nowhere. one of the best 3 pieces ever!!

  • Why, it says fire HOUSE?

  • Brings back memories. Mike Watt played bass with his nuts out. Apparently he didn't give into the hair trends of the era.

  • haha reda's version is good to

  • Haha in the real video? Kames Hardy was crackin up.

  • fire HOUSE suck the big one.

  • @wanderer1031 well why dont u go suck lil waynes ya fag get some taste in music

  • @SinPhilad i have some taste in music, that's why 1. i said that fire HOUSE sucks and 2. little wayne sucks too, he is just selling a low i.q. lowest common denominator image to anyone foolish enough to fall prey to it.

  • Awesome! Watched "We Jam Econo" last nite... great doc on The Minutemen! I agree about the SC " Wheels of Fire" video. I remember holding a tape recorder up to the TV when I was a kid so I could have a copy of those songs when I went skating!! classic!! BTW, does anyone know if the park where "Brave Captain" was shot is the same one in San Pedro where the youth hostel and Korean shrine? My guess is there is now a basketball court on the spot where they perform in this video?

  • mother's milk rules!

  • Ed's hair is so bad, but George's makes up for it lol.

  • ed has awesome awesome hair..i'd kill for it.

  • uber-cool band indeed

  • Crawford's voice, Watt's smile, Hurley's hair...EPIC

  • Badadad Baghhhhh Baaaa, Badadad Baghhhhh Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba Duuugun! Kick ass Bassline (Mr. Watt) Great Drum Breaks, and some Strong Lyrics. -Honest

  • yeah man i agree...how many great band s did you find from watching skate vids i remember recording this song onto a tape from my tv while watching the video

  • thats exactly how i found them too

  • The Santa Cruz "Streets on Fire" video has IMO the best soundtrack of any other skate video. It introduced me to the SST label.

The Minutemen, Black Flag, The Decsendents, Pailhead and Sonic Youth all feature in this 80's skate flick...those guys were so switched on back then.

Mike Watt is a living legend!!!

  • mothersmilk fuck yeah me too -battle!

  • George's hair is a 4th instrument. I love this song. Watt is incredible.

  • Watt and Hurley should be spoken of in the same hushed tones as Robbie Shakespeare and Slim Dunbar.

Ed was perfect for them at this time. I saw them one day at a local Clear Channel Shed. They were one of the few bands that new how to own that much real estate.

  • firehose is more structured than the minutemen. Ed is a great songwriter, Watt's bass really comes alive in Firehose and George is just a kick ass, tighter than parking at christmas, drummer.

  • @71jau "tighter than a parking lot at christmas" - nice one!

  • mike watt is fukin god on the bass

  • first time i've heard this, heard a chili peppers lyric mentioning this band, what a surprise! they're awesome! really like this :)

  • exactly the same thing happened to me.i'm gonna check out and fishbone(also a band from rhcp lyrics)

  • then i too shall check out fishbone :) i thought the lyric was a reference to someone, not a band, so cheers! i'll check them out :)

  • Don't forget John Doe and X. He's also mentioned in the song. At the time, all these people mentioned were actually more respected in the LA scene. Then that album came out (which you're referring to), Mother's Milk, and that changed EVERYTHING.

  • what energy from a bass, guitar and drums. Miss these guys!

  • Well then apparently ol Natas has good taste in music. Its hard to find these days trust me laDDY A TWEAKER THAT DIGS MINUTEMEN/FIREHOSE is a rare commodity! They're usually into skynyrd/top 40 ghetto vomit! No offense to Skynyrd they've got some timeless tunes!

  • hee hee jee

  • Dude. I knew I heard this from an old skate video!

  • Yeah, this song was played during the Natas part in the Santa Cruz video "Streets On Fire". Awesome video.

  • It was the video that got me into skating. I'm still skating and I'm 33. I still love getting on my board every morning for work rather than getting the bus. Skating for kids? Yeah right!!

  • this band rules.

  • LOL, the drummers hair is wicked crazy. Nice music tho. Very nice lyrics

  • douche.

  • good god listen to that bass

    fuckin amazing

  • Firehouse is forgotten? I guess that's why a couple of their videos on here have 1 million views and this one has 56,000.

  • That's what separates Big Mac eaters from true connoisseurs of Angus Beef. Take yr "Firehouse" and jam it up yr ass...

  • Firehouse LOL. Stupid MTV

This is much better than the actual Firehouse, though.

  • 'member singing songs about....Madonna?

  • Sorry thats streets of fire.

  • Used by the one and only Natas Kaupas in Santa Cruz Speed Freaks vid.Crackin tune.

  • Great band. Ruling tune. LAME video.

  • ragin' full on... remember the music machine, me at first couldnt remember, 'member?

  • member talkin about dick hell? member?

  • This song has the sickest bassline.

The first time I heard this song, I was immediatly hooked on it haha.

  • Drummer looks like a wheaton terrier. Mike Watt vs. Les Claypool???

  • NO. No competitions. Go to Watt's myspace and look up his interview with Bass Magazine (or something) and hear him talk about influences and feeding off of other people. There's no one person better. Everyone's different, and when you listen to and play with others with a different approach, THEN you become a better overall musician, but not in a competative sense. Music =/= competition.
