i just read Improving your Financial IQ by Robert T. Kiyosaki and he comments in his book about the US the richest country in the world in debt to the poorest countries which Obama pointed out. Obama clearly has a grasp of this country economy
America NEEED this man it would be nice to have someone as Brilliant as him after bush for 8 yrs...and yes he was Very Cofident answering this question he just have to think before he speaks if you listen to him he is a thinker unlike bush/mccain...All of the misspokes Mccain have and he is suppose to be so educated on the War I dont think so...just because someone was in war or was a soldier doesnt mean they can lead a country you need more than just experience on taking orders.
He knows the economy very well, I've heard him speak in detail about a number of economic issues. I don't know if there's an exciting way to talk about the devaluation of the dollar. The bottom line is that the dollar is in the toilet along with our entire economy and its going to require fixing and sacrifice. Question is: Are Americans really ready to sacrifice? Will we cut back on the use of energy, use money more wisely and forego the use of credit for non-essentials?
I think Obama needs to infuse some of his inspirational rhetoric into the town halls. I know his trying to be specific and provides substance to blue collar workers, but the way he inspires is key and unmatched by no other candidate.
You can look at the crowd that are non-obama supporters (yet) and tell they are not necessarily sold, but are likely there looking to be swayed
I really wish all of the candidates would focus more on paying-down the national debt. We wasted $429,977,998,108 on interest payments, last year. And, while I appreciate Senator Obama's promise not to allow Congess to add any spending to the budget that would enlarge the deficit, eliminating it altogether should still be one of our main priorities, even during a war.
The falling dollar affects others. One of our Canadian clients is being driven out of business by the falling dollar. Canadian materials and labor are used. Since their clients are in the US, every time the dollar falls, the US price raises.
Two US manufacturers of similar products are doing much better. They having moved their materials and labor to other counties. They often receive US tax credits when they do so. Result is one of them recently dropped more 30,000 jobs in PA.
I think this shows Obama has an excellent understanding of the principles of generating wealth for our country. Generating a good economy that allows us to be more than just service employees gives the country economic strength. The policies that drive our industries off-shore are endangering our homes and families. To me, this speech demonstrated that Obama has an understanding of the issue of the declining dollar, its impacts, and how it can be reversed.
I attended this town hall ..It was great! There was so much energy in the room. I hope there are more clips from the event. You've got my vote Barack!!! And many more each day! I really hope you win PA.
visit barackobama's website and blogs! There's a wealth of information there for anyone who wants to see how Obama will fix the issues facing America today!
hmmmmm..... I know what you mean lewis.....I watched this a couple times and it is clear that he knows what he is talking about an I agree with his plan but I think it's hard to have the obama-stump-style-speech when your trying to explain an economic agenda or something as nuanced as fixing an inflated Dollar...
i think he probably sounds less confident in the answer is because he tries a little too hard to say things in just the right way. but if you listen to what he is saying, his reasoning is sound and everything he's saying is accurate. restoring taxes for the top 1 percent, winding down the war in iraq, energy efficiency projects(which also create jobs), and better budgeting priorities: all of these things would make a huge difference, and that's exactly what he would make real as president.
The value of the dollar is related to debt. Borrow less (as Obama stated) and the dollar will rise. Borrow more, or even the same; the will continue to devalue. That, and the American blood we're spilling, is why the war must end.
Well, thats a response that many people cannot follow because it involves something most people are not educated into understanding. Had Barack had an overhead projector, he could have made a better 'descriptive' explaination of budget. It breaks down to this. ANY economy is based on production, which means the person doing physical work. When companies ships jobs overseas to strengthen their pocket, its another short term money maker but a long term money loser that affects the dollars worth.
I respect your opinion but he sounded confident to me. I understood what he was saying to the voter. This is a man who will address the falling US dollar around the world. He's got a plan to address this problem and a plan to create new jobs to for a green economy.
dude obviously obama has to think about what he is saying before h e says it... the reason he seems hesitant is because he was making sure that everything he was saying is actually correct
he is not scripted... so listen to what he says not the pace at which he says it
perhaps, and your getting the neg's cause ppl think you're bashing him but it may be just that it's hard to answer such a loaded question in a couple minutes
I definately understand the devaluing of the US dollar , I travel the world and our dollar is terrible ! Hopefully Obama's leadership will help stop this negative trend. Obama 2008!

You see.... these are the figures we must force ourselves to focus on. Not the petty things of campaigns.
- Look, 42 presidents to get rid of 4 trillion, and one president adds 4 back.
- $100 billion/day on foreign oil - What!
- Borrowing and buying exports from countries that aren't even fortunate enough to (or won't) feed and take care of their own.
Let's pay attention people. Hopefully Sen. Obama and his campaign will tell the rest of the country and on interviews this grand information!
