Best song about nostalgia ever written. I quoted the lyrics in the final dissertation for my English Degree and successfully compared it to Wordsworth's Intimation of Immortality Ode.
always takes me back to growing up in glasgow. my friends and I did actually play by the old railway tracks and abandoned lines and buildings as kids. Very scottish.
mums with prams braved the glasgow to cumbernauld railway line in order to get to red road flats or shops. We were all fugitives from the police who hovered above the railway valley ready to intercept freezing cold people. it was awful on a cold glasgow day to go the long way round and we didn't matter enough for them to build a bridge - easier just to arrest them and pay fines to people who didn't have money. we loved playing their as kids though - which is why the song means a lot.
Annie is a great artist. If I could say one thing to her - it would be - be careful of the media. It can wreck a person's soul. Take away a certain humility without us even realizing it is happening. but she knows that i'm sure.
Beautiful tribute to Annie and Dave :) Great song and pictures, another great video Carma! I dont know how I missed it! Into the Eurythmics playlist your video goes! love and peace, Christine xo
@RoryNights Thank you very much Christine. This is an older video, but one of my favorites for sure. So happy to this made your playlist. Much love and peace to you my friend=)
I'm from Scotland and lived near railway lines where we used to play as children. Different city to Annie's but this song is very close to my heart. There is a lot of Scottish beauty and sadness in this song. A lament of recollection.
As kids we are often taught the old Gaelic songs in primary school in Scotland. They are often tinged with sadness and recollection of place. It's very clear to me that Annie has a lot of that in her soul as do so many of us.
This is a song that reminds me of a lover who died of AIDS 21 years ago. I cannot hear it w/out thinking of him. I must say this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I'm just 15 years old and it's so sad because I will never see them together. I just love Eurythmics but the only thing that I have is this witch was made long before I was born. They'll never do anything new in my life time...I can only enjoy the past...

Favorite song from Revenge CD. Read an interview where she stated it was written for her father who had recently passed away.
Stunning.

Music is a great healer of the soul, I have found. I agree with you, this is a very special song, especially for you.
