Get over the smash mouth running game fetish. I'll take 45-0 even if it's 300 passing and 150 rushing - as it's likely to be under Coach Kelly. And you know what? I think we're going to start seeing those scores again.
@cauchamar Your comment not really necessary! I don't care how ND wins, as long as they win. My comments were only prompted because of the videos, not because I was being critical of ND. I wasn't trying to be critical of the Irish. I was just reflecting on how good they really were back in 80's and early 90's and what their style was at that time.. They are and always will be my favorite college team. You need to relax!!!!!!!!
Zellars was a beast!! I remember our My High School Coach ( Mark Mangino Ex-KU Head Coach) Game Planning for him all week watching his game films! He was unstoppable. Hardest hit I ever took in football was tackling him in the open field!
@irishbearcat2006 Be of good cheer my friend ND will rise again,we have Bryan Kelly now and he is a proven winner! That run by Ray Zellers was vintage ND,I think that player from Purdue is still looking for his teeth!!
Wow this really is one of the best runs I have ever seen. Damn these were the days when ND had a great running game and a great coach. If I came a across a magic lamp and a genie granted me one wish I would wish I could go back in time like Terminator and kill the stupid SOB's who forced Lou Holtz from ND. I would get no greater joy than to put a knife through the hearts of those bastards!
@domj0590 AMEN! they have sucked since he left. not 1 ten win season while sweet lou had 4 in 11 years and that was without the advantage of a 12 game schedule as they play now as opposed too 11 in lou's day. lou won 4 major bowl games while notre dame has not won one since. also the irish held the number 1 ranking 4 seperate years in his tenure while they have hardly sniffed it since. the red sox had the ruth curse i guess we have the holtz curse. hope it doesnt last 86 years though.
@madmac993 the running game will step up this year. the line has been trained to be quicker, not short big blocks. the spread with the pass will open up the run gain up the middle, and dayne CHRIST can run the option once in awhile
This was my first Notre Dame game when I was 11 and I was sitting in the end zone watching Ray Zellers come straight at me. The run and the game was awesome!!
Like Tangwich has already said, keep dreaming.. If Jonas Gray can get over his fumble problems. Jonas will be the #2 runningback. He's better than Hughes by far.
I got recruited by purdue... When I was up there on my official visit, my host, the players, and even coaches were still clowning/laughing at the guy who got ran over... on the down low of course...
I tell you what....Lou Holtz recruited and coached some gladiators back in the day.

We saw some of that type of running in the USC/ND game with HUUUUUGHES.

I loved it when ND would rack up like 300 yards rushing and about 150 yards passing and beat people 45-0. I miss those days.

This run got attention. Berman was calling him Ray "Wine" Zellars after that run and the play was nominated for an ESPY that season.
