One must seriously disagree with the comment stating that the 1st 35 minutes were "rubbish". The whole thing is totally delightful! Also, one of the principals, the estimable Vladimir Vasilyev, is in the very first scene and nearly every one thereafter!
this IS Don Quixote, as the opening credits state in Russian at the beginning. This is from the edgy Rodion Schedrin (Plisetskaya's husband) score for the "new" Little Humpbacked Horse" created in the 60's at the Bolshoi. Not nearly comprable to the Pugni/Saint-Leon version restaged by Petipa in 1895, some of which I have uploaded to youtube.
I have just watched this ballet on dvd danced by Maya Plisetskaya, the first 35 minutes are rubbish the dvd only being saved by the appearance of the principal dancer,BE AWARE,and wait to see if it ever comes out with Svetlana Lunkina on DVD....
what we need to know is how to get the bolshoi to make a DVD of this version, with Svetlana Lunkina.5 stars would not be enough of an awardfor this 60 seconds of pure beauty put to music.
It's from an old ballet that Plisetskaya danced in called "The LIttle Hump-Backed Horse" - though with the windmills spinning you'd think it was Don Q!
