Another golden voice of the 60's has gone to enter, the sadly over packed, Rock-n'-Roll Heaven. I loved A Hundred pounds of Clay. couldn't stop playing it in 1961 when it came out. If you haven't heard it you should. Rest well Mr. McDaniels , like Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and all the others you will live on as long as people enjoy great music.
I walked into the Adams West theatre in L.A. one night, after hours, in 1963. The Onzy Mathews big band was playing and Lou Rawls got up and sang a couple of tunes and he was great. Then you took the stage and apologized for your voice (said you had been in the studio all day) then you proceeded to blow Lou Rawls away. I have don't remember what tunes you did but, man, you were magic that night. I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I hope you do.
is this a remix? great tune....lve the jason rebello version too...but danced to mr floods party at the torch...i always remember rediffusion record shop in nottingham had all the pressings of mr floods party...best words ever!!!
@s0ulbr07 Mr Flood's Party still sounds good. This is a nice version. Do you remember Hector at Selectadisc Arkwright St? I used to spend my wages every Friday there and be skint for the rest of the week.
Brilliant-Gene is up there with what was started-anyone know a tune called look what you done by him-I saw it the other day in a second hand shop-they wont play anything and its a bit budgety-----
THIS is the original. This song was written by by Gene McDaniels in the late 60's but made famous (and into a hit) by Les McCann and Eddie Harris on their album Swiss Movement and also covered by Roberta Flack.
High CarlBank250 not too sureif I've heard this by Les McCann & Eddy Harris I used to dance to the version by Mr Floods Party in the late 60's and early 70's,at the clubs in Manchester and surrounding area, my how time flies I'll try and find it and listen to it online.
This can't possibly 1969! So ahead of its time!
