I am just converting all my 8mm to DVD from the 1950s. So special to go back and see better times. Really like your home movies. Hope mine turn out as well!.
WOW! A year later and your film is doing very well. I knew it would gather steam. The older it gets, the more and more people are going to love this film!
What ??? No piercings in their lips or eye lids ? No tattoos of Satan or demons on their arms, legs, & necks ? No butt cracks peeking out of their sagging, dirty trousers ? No extra huge, white t-shirts that drag on the ground, as they make yet another crack deal in front of an elementary school ?? No graffiti on the houses or security bars on the windows ? No trash on the ground ? My , how liberal minds , with rose colored glasses on, have "improved" America. Just being sarcastic .
@MrRJDB1969 No, you are just being ignorant. It's not the liberals that have descended this country into a quagmire and killed off entirely the prosperous middle class shown in this film- it's the GOP and their quest to save billionaires from the horror of paying taxes. Don't blame that one on the left- the GOP owns it 100%.
@gmfive : So, I'm being ignorant ? Really ? Sounds like you are popping off before you know what you are talking about. Your average Conservative minded individual doesn't trot around with his ass showing, pierced & tattoo'd up from head to foot, dropping garbage on the ground and if you were to take a moment to actually watch the video, those in the video appeared very Conservative as well. What ? Many of your Leftist buds aren't billionaires ? GOP doesn't "own" this, pal.
Nostalgia is a funny kind of thing, a helpless feeling of not being able to return to the past, You tube really makes it hard nowadays , with easy access to old memories , 20 years ago it was your memory or old photo's. To much of the past is not good, one forgets to live for today and make new memories.
The thing about any time period is when you're in it you think it's going to last forever. It's only when its gone that you realize how sweet it was. At the time you're so busy trying to get to the next thing. The 50's, the 60's and 70's, heck even the 80's and 90's they were good times, gone forever. Thanks for the use of your time machine. jrs
This video for me was like a "window into the past" that took a look at my parent's generation that was getting married and raising families after WWIII. To me, this 8 mm movie film is more interesting than the average "street photography" (still images) to watch because it shows real people doing real things during an era where the prospects for the future were good and unlike today. It makes me sad to think that most of these fine people are probably dead now. Thanks for posting.
Absolutely great. I too, viewed it for the cars, but found that it captured the lives of people in a time that I never knew, but long so much for. One of my favorites
I thought that I would love this film for the cars (which I did) but, I found much more to love. This film captured all that was great about the 50s. It was a carefree time that I am too young to know of but which have heard about from my Mother. This film is awesome! You captured the mood of everyday people like none other I have seen. Thank you for sharing it. That was really great !
This was back when people enthusiastically drove Buicks, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Hudsons, Desotos, Packards, Studebakers, etc. all built right here in the good 'ole USA.
Now people drive Toyotas, Hondas, Kias, Hyundais, Mitsubishis, and various other forgettable plastic blandmobiles designed by foreign companies with no soul who send the profits overseas.
@dodge09challenger : I agree. The other day, while driving down the freeway and eventually getting caught up in another traffic jam, I looked at all the cars around me and it suddenly dawned on me, I had the only American car on the road, in front, on the sides , & in back of me. Funny too, I was possibly the only American on the road that day too. This is no longer the "America" I grew up in and it pisses me off . I want my home back .
Wow, what a great video. Transports me to a different time in this country with cool American cars, fun times with family and friends...back when you could walk down the city street where you lived without fear of being robbed or raped. Unfortunately, those days are long gone, there is no American pride left. Most of the houses in this video are probably abandoned by now or have been turned into meth labs/crackhouses.
I love this video this is one of my top favorites 8mm movies rocks I wish I could go back in time with my orig. 1952 plymouth cambridge 4door @ be stuck in that time forever hanging out with the cool cats like the young gear heads there is very beautiful girls in this video I am looking forword to see more of these great movies thanks for showing this video it was great
Back then home movies (video) was a brand new technology, people felt that when a camera was running, and you could hear it whirring, that they had to do a little performing.
Video of all types is so ubiquitous nowdays, people hardly pay any attention to it.
@dicarlo57 I, for one, found it great! These were real people who acted like real people. Some were goofing around, some were serious, some others were shy and some were just having a ball. This film embodies the real every day American neighborhood where neighbors still cared for one another and joined in the happy mood of the day. Shame on you for criticizing them. Where were you raised? Nazi Germany?
@noxscotchxtape I wasn't unsulting Germany. Ich Spreche Deutsch und teil der familie des mein sind aus Deutschland. Nazi Germany was a disgrace though. This is an incredible piece of American history though. The 50s will go down as one of the most important eras that has ever existed in our country's history. It was a gay time when "gay" meant happy!
Actually today was the first time I ever watched this video with the speakers on. I did not even know there was music. To answer your question, my sister hired a service to convert the 8mm tapes. I assume that they added the music.
I really like this video.. I love looking at the difference between then and now,the non crowded look of things surrounding the cars like not a ton of buildings and such.. Really weird..
cars were bad in the snow back then. tires were made of nylon and very dangerous. young people dont understand how dangerous snow drivng was back then.
You are right and most people depended on chains to make their cars go in the snow.
Ever try to put a pair of chains on your tires, I used to help my dad when I was little, it was a very cold and difficult task. Rear wheel drive didn't help matters either.
@censor48 They don't realize how dangerous snow driving is today. Most of them aren't paying attention due to talking or texting on their damn phones!

@Caljamscott I had a Super 8 Cam that I bought at 149.00 at Montgomery Wards in 1975.
Super 8 movies were better, because they took out more of the "chopiness" that regular 8's had.
