  • @eewavelle

U need to highlight it first

By left clicking it and dragging it over the clip u want . Then u press In the highlighted clip and drag it over

  • Very helpful. (I agree about the ugly, incorrect apostrophe!)

  • found this video really useful, I've been using iMovie 09 for about a year now and had no clue you could do half that stuff! Thanks so much :D

  • can you get the time line across the whole page? rather than these fat looking clips

  • Hey Andy,

I was checking my iMovie as I followed along with your video, and I noticed that I didn't have the option to not automatically add transitions and titles. I was wondering if there was something I could do to change that.

    Thanks!

  • good video but next time talk louder

  • Please help!

the bit at 4:40 when you drag the clip on top of the other, my iMovie won't let me do it! I've tried everything and I can't work out what I'm going wrong! Any tips anyone, I'm desperate!

  • anyone know how to use imovie to create a brady bunch intro using 9 separate videos?

  • anyone know how to use imovie to create a brady bunch intro using 9 different videos?--adam

  • I can't actually drag any of my clips to put on top of one another :'( does anyone know why this might be? x

  • for some reason my iMovie isn't letting me drag a clip anywhere?! Any help anybody?!

  • Your clips are some of the best and most helpful on the web. But you mumble. Speak up brother.

  • can the macs record whats on screen? like hypercam i suppose

  • @96aussie yes that's functionality that is built in to Quicktime X on Snow Leopard.

  • intro?

  • Is there a way that you can add more than one "picture-in-picture" clips or photos to a background at the same time, kind of like the "Brady Bunch" theme?

  • Andy: I think I know what's up. My clip is all still photos (no moving video). Therefore you can change the transition duration between still frames but you can't change the begin and end points within the still frames.

I would think that is why I see no tabs.

    Dan

  • Andy

Could you bring up those tabs youself again and let me know exactly at what step they appear above the clip?

  • Andy

I can't find how you got the two yellow buttons to appear above the clip that let you fine tune the transition lenght. All I see when I double click the transition box is a set duration box. I can't get the yellow tabs to appear.

    Dan

  • Hi Dan, did you enable the advanced settings in iMovie preferences? I think I covered that in part 1 of this video.

  • Yes Andy all setting in advanced have been checked. I only get a transition "duration" window that lets me set the time. No yellow tabs appear above the clip that can be dragged as in your tut. Ther is no way (as yet) I can get those yellow markers to appear.

    Dan

  • umm wow i can't right click how can u

  • depends what mac you have. either have to fingers on the trackpad. or hold ctrl and click

  • it should not be too hard to copy the transitions in the system files so that you're not gonna need the themes...

i'll reasearch that later on, if i get it to work, i'll keep you updated

  • Why would you want to do that?

  • to make the theme transitions avalible without using the themes. but i'm not sure how well i'll get it to work, have some stuff to figure out still

  • Once you've detached the audio from the video, is there anyway to just save the audio?

  • Yes, just select the audio segment and go to Share->Export using Quicktime. It should default to offering to save just that sound segment as a .wav file (for instance) but in the drop-down list you can also choose to export to AIFF or AU.

  • thanks, i've been trying to figure it out for days

  • can you cute the music in a specific place and place it ???

like if i dont want it to start from the beginning ???

  • Yes, you can drag the music clip to start anywhere in a video clip, set it to fade in and out, and shorten it. There is also advanced audio editing but I haven't done a video demonstrating those.

  • at 4:30 when you select clip from bottom and insert it to the top to do cutaway... im not seeing all of the options, i only see insert, replace and audio. I have iMovie 09...any suggestions?

  • Did you switch on the advanced options in iMovie preferences? I talked about that in the first video in the series.

  • how do u get the white right click thing like what u did at 5:02

  • right-click / ctrl-click on the clip, rather than clicking the down arrow on the gear icon.

  • is there a split screen effect for imovie?

  • Do you mean can you have two different videos displaying at once? Only with the picture-in-picture effect, you can't split the screen half-and-half.

  • Man, this looks so awesome, and I want to keep watching; but I have an eight page paper to write... however, I think I'm going to reward myself for getting through the semester by getting iLife 09

  • Just wondering, do you know if there is a way I can do a watermark of just text that runs through out the video in Movie09? Thanks :)

  • Unfortunately not - I think you would have to add it to each individual clip if you use the method I've suggested here.

  • wow, that looks very complicated =S
