Were you born retarded or did you just grow into it? A jeep 4.0 or 2.5 wil easily go 250k miles or more if it is somewhat maintained. Some people will see 275 even 300k if you do all scheduled maintnance.

I think that the longer wheel bas of the FJ45 may have hindered its performance on this course but would definately be an advantage on others. Congrats to the Jeep. I'm sure that was one of the best nights of his life.
I have a jeep j10 and an fj40. I love them both but will never give up my FJ40. I would love one of these FJ45s. I have found my FJ40 to be one of the toughest vehicles on the trails. This is a tough truck challenge which really doesn't do either of these vehicles justice. I was on a team in high school that won one of these competitions in a subaru hatchback against actual stadium trucks. It's all how you build it for the course you will be on. Everything has its own application
if opens diffs never stopped u from going anywhere then u havnt taken ur car far enough off road or threw some really nasty terrain, and yes without lockers even in four wheel only two wheels have power to them smart guy. thats why u run lockers cuase if ur flexin to the point a wheel is in the air that becomes ur power wheel then u only have one wheel spinnig becuase jeeps are one leggers.
I haven't gone rock crawling but I have been on some pretty difficult trails, and no matter how steep it's been, if you can pick a line where you retain most traction for all the tires, you shouldn't have much of a problem- especially if you're easy on the throttle... Bumping also helps a lot.

I own a 99TRD Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 4x4 and I drive it 800miles a week in Los Angeles traffic while towing all my tools and then I take it out on the trails almost every weekend. It has on it right now 487,000 miles and runs like a new truck, its never left me stranded anywhere. I know the 4.0 & 4.2 l6 jeep motors are 1 of the best motors ever put on 4 wheels but its not the only 1 out there and if you dont think so look up killing a toyota with the top gear guys and you'll see.
I work for the bank and all I do is drive all day long 12 to 14 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week checking to see if bank REO's have been broke into by squaters, I get paid per job so yeah 800miles is a average week for me. I live right next to the 2 that shoots me right into the mountains/ trails. Why are you so defensive, sounds like you dont want to believe a Toyota can do this. What happened did you get rapped by a toyota on the trail or something its okay man really the japs are nice people.
It's not that I don't believe that a Toyota is capable of it, it's that anyone can sit there and make up stories, just as bikerD15 did below. And aside from miles, I've never seen any motor as reliable as a 4.0L I6. I've seen them utterly abused- run with little to no coolant (HOT) with no adverse affects, firing right up even though it's thrown a rod straight through the block. I've never heard of one breaking down under any sort of normal use (breaking down to the point of stranded).
well dude I'm not just a toyota guy I used to own 2 XJ's trailed out, one with the standard 4.0 l6 and the other had a 4.2 l6 HO I love both of them, BUT!!! the 4.0 did leave me in the middle of nowhere only once my alternator died from getting way to much mud inside of it, I just replaced it right there on the trail after having to hike a bit. Just leave your options open to different brands because toyota is a great brand and if you ever buy one it wont leave you dissapointed believe me.
Well, then the 4.0 didn't leave you stranded, it was a bad alternator- and that can happen to any motor.
I can respect a well built Toyota, but what I can't stand is people who sit there making ignorant comments about how Toyota is somehow better, even though it's never been proven. Yeah, they're good platforms if you want to dump some money into them, but with a Jeep, all you NEED is a set of tires. Nothing else is necessary.
Well the alternator is on a jeep and its bolted to the motor so it is a part of the motor. And about a year ago the alternator on the Tacoma started to go out, it was making all kinds of high pitch noises but it still worked it did'nt just stop on me. The whole jeeps only need tires, I dont think so. My friend has a 06 TJ sport he can only fit 31"s with out rub and has open diff's "ITS NO RUBICON" while my Tacoma has a rear E-locker and out performs him every time. He needs alot more then tires.
The alternator is not a part of the motor- it's not a part of any motor on any vehicle. You can wire a vehicle to run solely off the battery if you wanted to, and not even run an alternator.
Oh, and this is another story I'm not going to believe- 31's and it's rubbing? Not going to believe that unless he's rubbing due to width or it happens when he's flexed. I see Jeeps do amazing things all the time with just tires- open diffs or not.
Of course its when he's flexed, but shit when my tacoma was stock 31's would never touch flexed or not. Two different types o f vehicles mean different sized wheel wells. You don't need gigantic tires to get a Jeep to go places, and you're wrong... If you know how to drive offroad, you don't need lockers... They're a luxury, not a necessity, and if you know how to drive, you can get most everywhere with open diffs as you can with lockers or spools.
I've owned numerous Jeeps and I know many people who own them, and guess what- I speak from experience, you're the one talking out your ass.

You clearly don't have a clue. Toyota is a motor company much in the same sense GM or Ford are. Ford is owned by nothing but Ford, as GM is owned by nothing by GM, and the same goes for Toyota. Jeep, however, is merely a brand- the same thing could be done with Lexus as Toyota owns Lexus.
You obviously have VERY little offroad experience if you think that a 4 wheel drive vehicle with open diffs is a "2x4". Like I said before, if you know how to drive a vehicle offroad, you don't NEED lockers- they are merely a luxury. Open diffs have never stopped me from getting where I want to go- they've made it a bit more difficult, but then again, that's the whole point; difficulty and the driving skill to get through it.

I saw a jeep cherokee fender bender on the interstate the other day and all that was needed was new front fenders, windshield, grille, lights, etc. the people walked out without a scratch. not only a week later there was an fj cruiser fender bender. the whole front end was smashed in. explain that big toyota tough guy.
Were both accidents at the same speed? Probably not. The FJ is a safer vehicle in a high speed frontal crash. I have had CJ's and FJ40's. overall the FJ40's are tougher vehicles, look under one the next time you see one...

Were you born retarded or did you just grow into it? A jeep 4.0 or 2.5 wil easily go 250k miles or more if it is somewhat maintained. Some people will see 275 even 300k if you do all scheduled maintnance.

I think that the longer wheel bas of the FJ45 may have hindered its performance on this course but would definately be an advantage on others. Congrats to the Jeep. I'm sure that was one of the best nights of his life.

I have a jeep j10 and an fj40. I love them both but will never give up my FJ40. I would love one of these FJ45s. I have found my FJ40 to be one of the toughest vehicles on the trails. This is a tough truck challenge which really doesn't do either of these vehicles justice. I was on a team in high school that won one of these competitions in a subaru hatchback against actual stadium trucks. It's all how you build it for the course you will be on. Everything has its own application

if opens diffs never stopped u from going anywhere then u havnt taken ur car far enough off road or threw some really nasty terrain, and yes without lockers even in four wheel only two wheels have power to them smart guy. thats why u run lockers cuase if ur flexin to the point a wheel is in the air that becomes ur power wheel then u only have one wheel spinnig becuase jeeps are one leggers.

I haven't gone rock crawling but I have been on some pretty difficult trails, and no matter how steep it's been, if you can pick a line where you retain most traction for all the tires, you shouldn't have much of a problem- especially if you're easy on the throttle... Bumping also helps a lot.

I own a 99TRD Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 4x4 and I drive it 800miles a week in Los Angeles traffic while towing all my tools and then I take it out on the trails almost every weekend. It has on it right now 487,000 miles and runs like a new truck, its never left me stranded anywhere. I know the 4.0 & 4.2 l6 jeep motors are 1 of the best motors ever put on 4 wheels but its not the only 1 out there and if you dont think so look up killing a toyota with the top gear guys and you'll see.

I work for the bank and all I do is drive all day long 12 to 14 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week checking to see if bank REO's have been broke into by squaters, I get paid per job so yeah 800miles is a average week for me. I live right next to the 2 that shoots me right into the mountains/ trails. Why are you so defensive, sounds like you dont want to believe a Toyota can do this. It's not that I don't believe that a Toyota is capable of it, it's that anyone can sit there and make up stories, just as bikerD15 did below. And aside from miles, I've never seen any motor as reliable as a 4.0L I6. I've seen them utterly abused- run with little to no coolant (HOT) with no adverse affects, firing right up even though it's thrown a rod straight through the block. I've never heard of one breaking down under any sort of normal use (breaking down to the point of stranded).

well dude I'm not just a toyota guy I used to own 2 XJ's trailed out, one with the standard 4.0 l6 and the other had a 4.2 l6 HO I love both of them, BUT!!! the 4.0 did leave me in the middle of nowhere only once my alternator died from getting way to much mud inside of it, I just replaced it right there on the trail after having to hike a bit. Just leave your options open to different brands because toyota is a great brand and if you ever buy one it wont leave you dissapointed believe me.

I can respect a well built Toyota, but what I can't stand is people who sit there making ignorant comments about how Toyota is somehow better, even though it's never been proven. Yeah, they're good platforms if you want to dump some money into them, but with a Jeep, all you NEED is a set of tires. Nothing else is necessary.

Well the alternator is on a jeep and its bolted to the motor so it is a part of the motor. And about a year ago the alternator on the Tacoma started to go out, it was making all kinds of high pitch noises but it still worked it did'nt just stop on me. The whole jeeps only need tires, I dont think so. My friend has a 06 TJ sport he can only fit 31"s with out rub and has open diff's "ITS NO RUBICON" while my Tacoma has a rear E-locker and out performs him every time. He needs alot more then tires.

The alternator is not a part of the motor- it's not a part of any motor on any vehicle. You can wire a vehicle to run solely off the battery if you wanted to, and not even run an alternator.
Oh, and this is another story I'm not going to believe- 31's and it's rubbing? Not going to believe that unless he's rubbing due to width or it happens when he's flexed. I see Jeeps do amazing things all the time with just tires- open diffs or not.

Two different types o f vehicles mean different sized wheel wells. You don't need gigantic tires to get a Jeep to go places, and you're wrong... If you know how to drive offroad, you don't need lockers... They're a luxury, not a necessity, and if you know how to drive, you can get most everywhere with open diffs as you can with lockers or spools.
I've owned numerous Jeeps and I know many people who own them, and guess what- I speak from experience, you're the one talking out your ass.

You obviously have VERY little offroad experience if you think that a 4 wheel drive vehicle with open diffs is a "2x4". Like I said before, if you know how to drive a vehicle offroad, you don't NEED lockers- they are merely a luxury. Open diffs have never stopped me from getting where I want to go- they've made it a bit more difficult, but then again, that's the whole point; difficulty and the driving skill to get through it.

Toyotas are capable of even more than 800 miles a week. They are some of the best trucks on the planet.
