the nutcracker will always be my ideal man. i've had a crish on him since the 1st time i saw this movie as a kid. and it looks like i wasn't the only one from the comments of some of the people here. ^_^
@quidwitch A good friend of mine is under the same misguided spell, trying to see every boyfriend as a husband! *sigh* They're great stories, but impractical.
@cancanwench Oh, my friend has gotten "seriously(both of them thinking this)" engaged to her past like five boyfriends. The first one she might have seriously got married to(doubt it), but tragic car accident. It's really annoying. She dated a guy for two months, they got engaged(she's in high school mind you), and she keeps constantly complaining about him doing this or that. And refuses to talk to him about it. If you're getting married you need to communicate with them!
@DreamToriDream You wanna know something funny? I don't ever plan on getting married because not only do I fail to see myself as a wife with no 'mothering instinct,' but I keep falling madly in love with gay guys!!
@cancanwench Well the mothering instinct then(lack there of), which I have to. Don't fret too much about that part. Plenty of people get married, and happily never have kids. And sorry about the choice of guys you fall in love with. :( But hey, if you're happy that's what counts.
@douxelle Cause it is a romantic scene, and an eight year old girl with a smexiful and manly-sounding king would look really creeptacular, don't you think? Whatever, though. I still love it, even with the inconsistencies! Its just gives it character :P!
wow, the voice of the Nutcracker is Kiefer Sutherland AKA Jack Bauer from 24. which is funny because he was 24 years old when he did this movie! No wounder he kicked the rat's butt!
@surfercutie2008 Yeah, Sure. And I am the wonder woman... Pas de deux, is a duet in which ballet dancers perform the dance together, the music is called The dance of the prince and the sugar plum fairy. Remember: Pas de dex = dancers performing together, The dance of... = The song.
@drumsloki, well acually in the play and as a acual song its called Pas De Deux, in this movie they renamed it "The dance of the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy"
is it wrong for a girl to dream fairy tale dream when she is going to be a sophomore. I love this movie. I wish that could happen to me or at least meet a gentlemen, they are so hard to find now. :-(
@Captstar2 I would certainly never turn down a gentleman in favor of a jerk or bad boy. I had a very brief date with a 'bad boy' type, and ended the whole thing as soon as he referred to all women as 'f**k buddies' and made it clear that he doesn't see the point of fidelity. I will not tolerate that sort of behavior.
@georginal12345 Or stomp on him or hit him with a really big book or grab him by the tail and chuck him in the fireplace or something. If it was a modern day girl they'd probably go for the tazer, mace and baseball bat. XD
Ohh I just LOVE 9:27 they look so love struck (I don't care that they're young, it's so adorable). Hmm, with the time period the movie is set in too, it might be that that isn't all that young in the first place. A girl can hope.
I believe it's during the Regency era... since Clara's mother mentioned something about Napoleaon's army. So I'm estimating 1820's. Clara's gotta be about 13.
13 was usually the time when a mother would teach her daughter the ways of being a proper young lady of society and how to meet the right people in hopes for an engagement by the time she's of age.

I can't help but wonder why Clara never just throttled the Mouse King. I mean.. I know she's just a girl and all, but if for the sake of her friends, couldn't she, being of larger stature, simply have squished or harmed him in some other way using the advantage of her height?
well these days she would have, for all we know, these days she'd probably take a gun to the mouse king
But given that this is based off the Ballet, she'd still have to leave it alone *shrugs* IDK most of the time cartoons aren't animated with alot of Common sense
Clara HAS TO LEAVE the Mouse King ALONE. If she kills him, the spell will never be broken.
In the second part, uncle Drusselmeier(sp?) tells Clara that the Nutcracker/Hans has to slay the Mouse King AND win the hand of a fair maiden to break the spell.
So, if Clara kills the Mouse King,Hans cannot kill him as well (as it is already dead) and will remain a Nutcracker. Clara does the best she can:she hits the mouse with her slipper, she locks him in a drawer and tries to protect the Nutcracker.
although...Clara didn't do anything to kill the Mouse king. she only thre candy at him. so...in truth...the Nutcracker did kill him. it just took awhile.
In the original story, Clara hits the Mouse King with her slipper and the Nutcracker takes advantage of this and kills the Mouse King.I guess "it wasn't noble enough" and that is why they changed the story.
