  • There's actually plenty of chubby elite gymnasts though. I don't mean that in a bad way, I think all body sizes should be accepted. Some gymnasts work better skinny (Sveta, Nastia), but for some gymnasts its a huge advantage to be on the larger side. Most power gymnasts aren't svelte, but being larger gives more push of the spring board, more momentum when flipping etc. If a gymnast can perform her own skills the best she can her body is probably right for her, regardless of it size.

  • Shes talking bout pressure on the bar. -.-

  • I think she meant, she lost the weight of pressure from the routine she just did?

  • I think it's stupid that some people think this is real

  • i cant quite understand what she said, can someone tell me please

  • What exactly did she say? I couldn't understand a single word she said.

  • I believe that if you can do the skills well, it shouldn't matter what you weigh. Because you're working off your body weight anyways so if you weight 220lbs, you should be able to throw all 220lbs of yourself over the bar for a Tkachev, or whatever the skill may be.

  • evil witch -__- poor bridget

  • what is she even saying?

  • what is she even saying??? I can't understand

  • bridget felt awk..she didnt know what to say she just stuttered

  • I love how people try to make something like this a big deal..

  • Marta's kind of right- Bridget is a better gymnast now. There's tons of ways to loose weight without getting an eating disorder.

  • Martha is telling her good job for loosing weight, that this size she is going to help her. Shes probably right. I understand weight is a sensitive thing, but its easy to see that Bridget is a better gymnast now. She's not encouraging her to lose more weight, that would definitely be bad. I think it's unnecessary for Martha to point out, but not completely out of line nor meant maliciously. People really are too sensitive.

  • what does martha say after " you lost some weight " and what is sloans response ? I can't make it out

  • @FL74USA She said: don't put it back. About Bridget's response, I didn't understand anything

  • Can some one tell me what she said...I don't understand

  • @lisapizza16 I think it's: Now that you lost some weight, don't put it back...

  • @brdbarreira ): maybe she does not realize saying things like that is wrong.... I would be so angry if she said that to me...

  • That is so mean of Martha! Bridget looks fine! She's a great gymnast!

  • Ass.

  • hah i think they were joking around. I think Martha was trying to lighten the mood. They have spent so much time together at the training camps that it could just be some inside joke between the two.

  • @Fevernova99 I agree, and also as much as people want to say that weight comments or the control held over gymnasts and their weight is wrong, its a part of the sport and they wouldnt be able to do what they do unless theyre at peak condition, which certainly doesnt include fat. its part of the sport and some take it too far, but its the reality if you want to be an elite. besides she doesnt say it horribly, she says it jokingly, as Fevernova99 said theyre just messing around :)

  • so is Marta out of touch or is everyone just a million times more sensitive. it's pretty clear Bridget didn't get upset and its not like she wasn't being dishonest. there's a huge difference from an eating disorder and simply wanting to fit.

  • @RollOnToVictory everyone is out of touch methinks! i mean, matra was praising her after a good performance, because her skills imporved as she's lighter! dont see what the big fuss was about...

  • i am sorry but gymnastics is not a sport for fat girls, not at a professional level anyway. No one wants to see a dancing pig (except in the circus)

  • @Holycani Bridget is not fat and looks fine, none of them are.. Martha is the only one that is carrying exess weight there. Bridget is also a gymnast with a woman's body which is nice to see, proving you don't have to be

without breasts to make it to the top.

  • Martha was notorious for watching girls weights'. Kim Zmeskal and her teammates' food was selected and limited by her. Yes, she chose exactly what they ate. Martha should be removed from gymnastics.

  • @gymnasticsloverxoxo Exactly! No one want to see a repeat on christy henrich. my coach kept wanting me to lose weight and one practice i passed out, i had to switch gyms

  • Not that I'm trying to encourage any eating disorders, but when you are small and so fit like they are, just a few pounds make usch a difference! Look at Alicia, at some of the meets before the Olympics (nationals, trials) you could tell she had put on a little, maybe like 5 pounds, but it just makes such a difference! She just looked sloppy, but she's so much better now. I'm personally around 110, and I if I gain only a few pounds I can already feel it! It's all about feeling good!!

  • @ahluvdrums hey, its called, NUTRITION, yeah!!!! if you eat the right foods, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Eat Raw.. the body can handle it.. you can eat whatever you want. eat sprouts, whatever.. its all about nutrition.

  • @gymnasticsfan1000 I started doing that back when I was studying martial arts, and it helped me with my stamina and I had more energy. We're the only creatures on the planet that cook our food... nobody else finds that odd? ;-)

  • Fat people have feelings too!

  • Oh my god, people are way too sensitive, people talk about this all the time in gymnastics, its not unhealthy, they body is their only tool, they talk about this openly and detailed. They keep their weight to their individual ideal muscle and body ratio to preform at their peak. She's not encouraging her to have an eating disorder, theyre basically discussing her training, and weight is a part of that.

Its a gymnastics champion where everyone is used to that talk, its not innapropriate.

  • @keat36 People talk like this in gymnastics all the time because the sport has been perverted into a sport for underweight little girls. Previous gymnastics champions were women with figures, even pregnant women! Marta may not be saying "Go scarf and barf!" but her comments about Bridget's weight could easily push any girl who is desperately eager-to-please like an elite gymnast to continue trying to lose weight in order to garner such positive attention.

  • What did she say?

  • @juicyjuice1551 I think she said, " now that you've lost some weight, u dont put it back."

  • Are people really surprised by this? The Karolyi's are notorious for encouraging eating disorders and starving the gymnasts that train with them. Welcome to the world of athletics.

  • She complemented her on losing weight, has that never happened to you? Seriously people she wasn't saying she needed to lose weight, she pointed out that she had.

  • @rebeccahawesome I think you're a bit naive, to be honest. Yes, it's a positive thing for an overweight person to lose weight, but complimenting an elite gymnast who probably only weighs about 100-105 lbs on losing weight is unhealthy. Most of these gymnasts are already on the low-normal to underweight side of the BMI scale, and really SHOULD not be losing any more weight.

  • its W-E-I-G-H-T people, not wait.

  • wow thats so crazy

  • um, you have got to be kidding, looks like bridget as trying to get away from her. Looks like you were right Dominique!, not that we doubted you.

  • just becuzz she gained boobs dosnt mean martha hast to point it out i mean come on Nastia has gained wait to! (: ps i love briget and nast(:

  • she said since you lost wait don't put it back and bridget doesn't seem to mind

  • Mmm.. have you seen Bridget's pictures (with colthes, not with leotards) from beijing? She was absolutely perfect, she doesn't needed to loose weight AT ALL

  • OH, yes, I see now. But we agree that she was talking about Bridget's losing weight.

  • This is Marta with a camera on her, what would she say without that? And why is Bridget's coach not intervening? But I'll bet Marta wouldn't dare make a comment like that to Nastia.

  • Even the way she says it is sinister and creepy, and you can just imagine the mind games and manipulation involved in getting selection.

  • Ugh, giving gymnastics a bad name once again. So screwed up.

  • That is horrible. And they wonder why so many of these girls go on to develop eating disorders? Ugh, I would never let a young girl participate seriously in this sport. It's just sick.

  • Yeah, and all coaches everywhere are like that.

  • No, certainly not all coaches. But unfortunately this attitude is very pervasive in the sport at the elite level.

  • she deffff. didnt say since you lost weight ahhh hahahaha

    omg yall are stupid

  • Um...she definitely said that if Bridget loses some weight her routine will be much better.

  • why would she need to lose weight.. thats so lame. she already weighs like 100 pounds and its like all muscle

  • what did she say then?

  • wtf IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMAN

  • Martha probably has said meaner things then that about weight and Bela is probably even worse.

  • What they say?

    help

  • Bridget says after Marta's comment, "Exactly, no, I don't want to put it back."

  • hahahah I love marta ...(niow you lose some weight an you can do it (brid

  • where was this?

  • @tatulover2120 2009 tyson american cup

  • it's not that bad. my russian trainer at a circus school says way worse things on a daily basis, and most of us aren't even competitive athletes.

  • Hmmm...way to encourage an eating disorder, Martha.

  • and you KNOW that if someone asks if she contributes, she'll get that look on her face of "who, me? what could you possibly be talking about?" and put it all back on the athlete.

  • @Sublue Yes, like Christy Henrich. This mentality has to change!!!

  • @Sublue she's not encouraging an eating disorder.. She's just saying that since she lost a bit of weight, it's eaiser to do some skills, which is true! She's not being mean, and she never called bridget fat! She was just commenting on her preformance, and how that may be linked to her loosing weight. I swear to god you people always look for something to complain about...

  • @mortella23 it's still embarassing to say in public on tv and it's highly innapropriate in the public eye. plus that is technically not true. Elise Ray was a bigger girl who performed one of the hardest bar routines in the Olympics. Same with Chellsie Memmel and Jana Bieger. And Elise Ray actually lost weight and her gymnastics skills fell apart. So you shouldn't base someone's skill on their weight because anyone can do something if they really work at it.

  • @mortella23 i do agree

  • @tatulover2120 thanksXD I've been getting quite bit of hate for that comment^

  • @Sublue ikr. haha i met martha at visa championships. she was heading out the door and i said hi..it was akward lol

  • Gawd - when someone in her position thinks it's ok to say this publicly (when the cameras are in her face, no less) is seriously out of touch.

  • maybe she didnt thhink they were one them?

  • @Peaceplatform Attitudes like yours are why there are so many fat people walking around thinking that it's OK to be disgusting.

  • @gravyboatK - yeah, because this world champion gymnast needs to worry about her weight and all. Go away.

  • Wow. At least they're ALLOWED to eat at the karolyi ranch..... right?

  • omg!! LOL. i was in the addiunce watching... but.. WOW!! so funny.. and when they announced the team at the end.. i was 1 row behing marta!!! haha bye

  • "now you lost some weight, now you don't put it back"

  • wht does bridget say after martha says that?

  • I can't understand it...what does she say?

  • nice one, martha....
