  • Lance, go run 10 miles and stop drinking the booze.

    Coach Mouser

  • Anyway, this is NOT the old school old style mai tai! HE'S USING A MIX FOR CHRIST SAKE!

  • I beg your pardon but the original Mai Tai from Trader Vic is as follows;

Buid the drink in the double-old fashioned glass

    1oz light rum

    1oz aged amber rum

    1/2 oz Orgeat syrup

    1/2 oz orange cuacao

    1/2 oz FRESH lime juice

    add crushed ice and shake.

    top with 1oz dark rum

There is no pineapple juice or grenidine syrup in a real mai tai. If you use bottled lime juice you wll distroy the drink. If you want a trader vic bartender to make it this way you must ask for it "California" style

  • I was in shock when I heard the bartender say there was pineapple juice, grenadine in the drink...your recipe is correct.

  • My recipe is not entirely corect because the original 17 year rhum is no longer available but I love using either the Pyrat or the Appleton Estate VX. It makes for a complimentary drink.Did you hear him pronounce the Orgeat as "Orsat"? Its pronounced (Or-jaey) French. This guy should be fired! He's puting too much lime juice in to compensate for too much sweet syrup! Gaaaaaaaah!

  • Although I love the Lemon Heart 151 the "old style" or the original should have planters punch dark rum floating on the top. What's up with this guy?

  • NICE! I was actually drinking a Mai Tai made with Appleton Estates V/X . I find it the best rum to use in a Mai Tai. About the pronounciation of Orgeat...ugh. I cringe when I hear people pronouce it incorrectly. I hear people say "or-geet" with a heavy G. Crazy. I buy mine from Finest call. great stuff...

  • Finest Call are excelent mixers. My wife won't have a vodka collins made from any other sweet and sour but Finest Call. She even likes it better than hand made. Go figure but, hey, it saves me the effort. I did find the best mixer for bloody marys. Dr. Swami & Bone Daddy's bloody mary mix - all natural, made from scratch. Honestly, I just couldn't believe how good this is.

Looks like we're thinking along the same line here.

  • Those are ridiculous. If you want to make a more authentic, minimal 50s mai tai you could do it at home without all the nonsense:

ice (crushed is better but whatever)

    1oz light rum

    1oz dark rum

    .5-1oz orange curacao (to taste)

    sweet and sour (lemonade)

toss in a cherry and a pineapple slice if you can and enjoy!
