You beer drinkers can sure stand bitter sensations. I mean I love the smell and general taste of beer except for that sharp bitter (hops?) note. I understand that lambics are not bitter, but are they too sour? lol
Without taking a snobbish view, this reviewer should know that Lindemans is a fairly commercial, export-oriented product as Lambics go. Still, maybe it's nice to view these sweet lambics as a kind of desert beer, sort of the beer equivalent of port.
That is important to know, but part of the issue is that in most places in North America, the only way to try a lambic is through Lindemans. Lambics, Saisons, Guezes and such are all very hard to come by where I live I know that for sure.
It's worth emphasizing that wild fermentation is what makes a beer a lambic. The addition of fruit is not at all necessary or universal among lambics. The lambic tradition of the Pajottenland region of Belgium is perhaps the oldest continuous brewing tradition, and is actually a remnant of old, old European beermaking traditions. Many lambics will shock your pallette with tart or sour flavors; the distance between that Lindemans vs. a Cantillon Gueuze must be tatsed to be believed.
Wow, you are very good with the details! I suck at all those details. I can never remember all the stuff. But I really enjoyed your review of a beer that looked like a wine. I am not into fruity beer but your review was great!!
