They were excellent mathmaticians but they could not have known how often this alignment occurs. It has happened before and it will happen many more times before the Earth is swallowed by the Sun or cast out into the darkness, whichever will occur as our scientist are yet to know whether we are being pulled in or moving away from the sun.
