A lavalier microphone should generally point downwards not up. This reduces the potential of pooping from the breath. Although in this setup the mic was a fair way from the mouth is it still best practice.

The Mic input on the Zi8 is a stereo Mini Jack. A Mini-Jack Splitter Belkin Model: Model: F8V234 will usually do the trick allowing each channel input to be accessed individually. Two non Phantom Powered Mics can be plugged into the the one mini jack input of the camera with this cable.

@eoslightingllc - Sorry - non phantom powered mics? Does this mean I need two Lav mics now instead of one to get stereo or two channel audio on my video recordings?

Hi there, I have a Kodak Zi8 camera with a Lavalier mic Audio Technica ATR3350, which I use for shooting at home, but while the camera has two channels, when I use the Lav mic it only records on one channel?
I would appreciate it if you could provide me with some info on what I can do to get two channel recording on my videos?
