Just about every time I get stuck up in my head, God has some way of reminding me that life is a celebration regardless of whatever the present moment has in store. My 7 week old son was taken into the hospital 3 days ago with the fear that he might have Menengitis or RSV. Turns out the little bugger just had a nasty cold, but now that he's home again, I just can't seem to put him down. God bless the good folks at the hospital. Maybe this was all God's way of telling me not to forget to hit
When I lived in Michigan and worked in heating and cooling, we would cut a register in the ductwork under the houses to keep the pipes from freezing. I did not see any ductwork in your basement though. Maybe a small baseboard heater set on low would do it. I understand being without a home all too well. Perspective I like to call it.
Hope you dont mind me saying here but I wrapped my pipes in some old loft insulation glass fibre I found at the back of my workshop from an old job I did in the attic some years back - you know the 3 inch thick yellow stuff, might save you some bother - just a thought for you, is all??? Best wishes.
Frozen pipes were a regular thing in one house I lived in, much like yours with a field stone foundation, but mine was all crawl space and the center of the house literally set on a rock. I guess it would make sense to tell you that I lived in "Rock Village". No joke, that was the name of our little community. Now you know the rest of the story...
@Busia1949 Oh, I don't doubt that a bit. hahaha I live about 20 minutes from "Rockland" myself. hahah. Oh and I also live on the edge of an old Limestone quarry. haha
I under stand having how having frozzen pipes is I live in a single wide trailer i love it well its not all that but its home My Grandmother bought the trailer brand new back in 1965 so my mom grew up in it too But i miss my grandmother she is no longer with us. So now i live in the Trailer on my own My trailer has had problems in the past but things happen it allmoast 80 years old and we had to replace floors in the past but that will go on as long as the trailer is lived in because they weaken
@redneck2010ize Yea, I've done that before. Nice thing about it is that you make it stronger when you do that, and it's better than it was when it was new now.. Good work.
@rpeek I don't know why but the wireing goes bad in thease old trailers too in 1996 my uncle had to run new wire and conduted to replace the old outdated wireing because one day it just stoped workin woke up one day and the power wasnt working in the trailer. lol
Never knew that's what i found old aluminum wire hahaha now thats crazy i had one of the old outlets torn apart to cover them with flat plates that yah put over old outlets boxes
@redneck2010ize I think they experimented with a lot of stuff back in the day. A lot of trailers were plumbed with this flexible plastic pipe that was probably a precurser to PEX pipe, but it would get old and brittle and break and was almost impossible to fix without pulling it out and starting over. I had an uncle who worked in a Mobile home factory down in Georgia and we went in to see 'em being built once. Pretty cool..
@rpeek I bet ive ben told the new trailers are built better today than years ago. But as long as im living this trailer will keep standing unless i get a bad winter and a tree falls on it i live in the woods so there are trees all around me and one thing another thing im going to replace is my hot water tank its only a 50 gallon tank for a big trailer ive got a shed built on the back to put the new hot water tank in it lol they didnt really think when they built some of these old trailers lol.
@redneck2010ize Well the thing about an old trailer is it gets better as you go along if you fix it up a little along the way, like you're doin'. Most things are like that.
@sisseeboy Yea, I'd like to do something like that if I could. Not sure how's the best way to go at it yet. I've got a lot of projects that are more important that I've got to get done first.
You have a great attitude about life. We all have problems and some people can't deal with it. My father lost everything on more than one occasion. He would always say, "after all tomorrow is another day". People say I'm always happy. Well, I have a lot to be thankful and happy about.
I understand about havin to pick up just as soon as you get settled. Its happened to me before too, I aint to proud to say it. I am very thankful to God for my old singlwide mobile home I live in. It keeps me warm and dry...and Its paid for! Thank you for reminding me Mr. Peek.
Nail on the head again. Studies show over and over again that a key to happiness is a keen sense of gratitude. Finely and well stated Mr. Peek (with a tip of my hat).
you did not get around to insulating your pipes this last summer? after you put on the heat tape wrap those pipes with fiberglass and your problems will be less thats what we do here in minnesota make sure and have some duct tape to hold it on
Aylaw! Best to you Mr. and Mrs. P. Would like to see your place one day. Pretty country. Thanks for your videos. You have brightened my day more than once.
watch your video, they sell a foam insulation cover for pipes and it only cost about less than 5 dollars it come in a package of 6 by 3 ft or singles that are longer. it work great in my home {1890} it may help. enjoying your videos!
I dunno how, but I seem to get vids from you that are very timely. I appreciate all you have said and shared. We are all reminding ourselves more around our house to be thankful. We have a roof over our heads, we ate plenty today, a bed to sleep in. Drove to church and back today. None of us are in the hospital. I mean come on.....we are blessed!
@19stoney64 Yes, we are and I know it every day, except tomorrow, which is Monday, and although I'm grateful for having a job, I so would like it to be a holiday! hahahahaha
things is always better than they seem. that's a good morale lifter on a crappy sunday night in england. things keep falling through for me and unsettling over and over, but you're right that you have to be thankful and look on the bright side. i feel like there might be hope so thankyou
i love old houses, and most old houses have a real yard, look at the new cookie cutter crap in the city where your nabors house is so close you can here him toot lol, old houses are the only way to go in my mind, keep them pipes a flowing lol
people who live in warmer places dont have a clue as to the joys of winter in a old house, when my wife and i first were married we lived in a house that was well over 100 years old, if you dropped a ball in the dinning room or front room it was a guess as to which way it would roll....pictures would hang away from the wall on the east and south side....we made it our home for almost 6 years....it was a good home for a young couple
@thefred1952, metal is easier to deal with when they freeze, if you catch it before it splits, just hook a welder lead to each end of a frozen run and crank the juice on, doesn't take long, probly don't wanna take a per while your waiting. :)
...frozen pipes are one thing but...I have to replace the submersible pump on the well :P
got it pulled up then it's stuck 28 feet from the top :( I made up a tool that will go down the hole and hook around pipe between the pump and foot valve. When the pump was put down the hole they used ABS pipe. I'm afraid to put any pressure on the plastic pipe, if it breaks I'm screwed.
I'm waiting for this cold weather to break to give it a try, this hauling water sucks :(
@jacktheripped Oh, i think it's stuck because of the earthquake we had in the 80's. well caseings arn't screwed together, the hole is drilled and they just set one pipe on top of the other so I think where there is a joint the pipes have shifted. If I can't get the pump out it's a new well or about $14,000 to hook up to city water...
I'm Thinking, Don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm not to be dokng any thinking... Dang, now I need to call my wife, I done forgot what I was thinking... Anyway, when and if I loose my house I've decided to move in with you and Honey Baby... LOL
Interesting perspective on home ownership. I've been fortunate to always be able to pay the mortgage (it's been close a few times though), and I've had pipes freeze in my last house, they were copper, and were inside the floor between the first and second floors. I tore out the floor and was able to get to them as they were starting to split.
