First let me start by saying that your home is thy most Lovely I and my husband have seen in our lives. Second were i we want to know everything you did and how the roof was formed and what you used, your home is such an insperation to us in so many ways the love the heart the will to do this and share it Thank You so much. This is my husbands email rib362@yahoo.com we both would love to know just how you built your home.
@1977wildflower Hi, Glad you like the Woodland Home. Simon's web address is included in the video and in the info section. You can contact him via his website. He is now building at Lammas[dot]org[dot]uk in Wales where you can join others learning and helping to build there. Join facebook[dot]com/naturalhomes too. Simon's house is just one of many other beautiful natural homes.
@azmodanrom Answer to the first question is warm and cosy, straw bales are very good insulators, and the second: it's a reciprocal roof which is very strong as long as the roundwood timbers are suitably thick.
That sounds great. Here in the U.S. it seems like it is all abut the bureaucratic system with loads of codes and regulations. We would never bre able to get a way with building something like that. It is a real shame as i would love to try. Since I am part Welsh maybe I should come to Wales and do it:)
@RoadKingWilly The area he lives in (Pembrokeshire, Wales) has a Sustainable Living Policy where people can buy affordable agricultural land and build with sustainable natural materials if they can show that they can provide for 75% of their needs from the land. Other parts of Europe have similar policies.
I love the look of this home - I'd love to see a little more of what it looks like inside though, such as the bedrooms... This is exactly the kind of house that Kevin McCloud should feature on "Grand Designs" (one of the few reality tv shows I watch)! :)
They are hero's of mine.. thank you for putting together a better view of the house and adding the captions. I have since designed fence/livestock/dry wood storage structures to replace conventional ones. The wheels never stop turning once you have seen this kind of success. There are many ways to use this idea!!
Stunningly beautiful and inspiring! I added this video at no.5 in the CREATION,BIRTH & EVOLUTION category in the free-to-enter online video competition New Earth Olympics 2012 at neo2012.co.uk

Extremely rustic looking. Love it. Now all I need is some spare wood, an ax, a hammer, and a free weekend.

How did he get around the building codes and the building code enforcement depart of his country? Could never get a way with that here in California.
