They've made quick barrel swap uppers and interchangeable mag well lowers and all other sorts of ways you can convert an AR into a multi-calibur gun. But yea it is cool that Colt's figured out how to convert 5.56 to .308 and still keep the lower unchanged.

I was more excited last year, when they said that it was going to use any existing standard AR upper. But now they say proprietary magazines and upper reciever kits to be bought separately, I'm pretty turned off from it.

Pretty slick design with the 556 upper converting the large magwell to a flared magwell. Strong work Colt. Now just extend that rail and lighten it and you will be golden.

I see no reason for using the 5.56 adapter to use a 308 lower on a 5.56 upper. If you have the money for a 308, you probably already own an AR15. An AR15 lower is the cheap part of the gun. Even guys humping around a 308 are not going to carry an extra upper with an additional set of mags and ammo.

I was excited about the 901 last year, but Colt dragged their ass for a year and a half bringing this to market. Quad rails are a way of the past, too much bulk and weight up front, plus you have to inevitable cover them so you're not shredding your hands. This is coming from a guy who's go-to gun is a 6940. Colt should have made a monolithic modular rail like Troy to put rails where you need them. At $2200 MSRP it's still a good buy, but I'm less excited.

@YokoWenis quad rails are dead, things like the troy alpha rails, and larue rails are the thing of the future, even noveske teamed up with vltor for the key mod system.

I'm kind of disappointed with the fact it takes proprietary .308 mags the last thing I want is to buy another set of magazines.

On another note I went shooting with a friend of mine and he brought his kid that plays COD. I ended up bringing an AR-15 and a Scar 16 his kid explained to me that the Scar had more knockdown power and asked me how many attachments I could put on the rifle LOL.

@bighitter42 The rep in the first part of the video said the .308 mags even though they are magpul mags which everyone associates with being DPMS/SR25 mags are proprietary if the Colt rep is wrong then that's awesome. But it does make sense because a LR308 mag release is indeed a different size than an AR-15 mag release. If you don't believe me then take a standard AR15 LPK and install it on your LR308 and see if you have issues.

Every single prototype I saw before I ordered mine in November used SR25 pattern magazines...if it shows up and doesn't I'm asking for my money back. I doubt that I'll have to.

Honestly I don't think it's the same analogy though. Doctors have to go to a long school, and acquire a license from the state. The same cannot be said for firearm company reps. According to them, there was no problem with Gen4 Glocks(for that matter with late Gen3 Glocks.) If they were doctors, they would lose their license to practice medicine.

They went to med school not pharma school. Big difference. They also prescribe really bad chemicals to people all the time. Like all the children that are prescribed to METH (Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall). That doesn't mean you should ignore your doctors advice. Also, the 'ASSume' bit is not nearly as clever as you think.
