In your entire life have you ever encounterd another human being wearing a white pinstrip suit and looking totally dignified? Me neither, but that's the kind of man Larry is. He would look dignified stark naked because he is dignified even while stark naked. I've been impressed for nearly forty years.
spent the weekend at the Two Rivers Bluegrass Jam and one of the main singers loves this guy and kept doing his songs. i hadn't heard of him before, but he's definitely one of the great country singers. great stuff!
@jtmasters13 Go kiss him on the cheek and let him know you love him. In thirty years you'll be thanking me for your wisdom at the right place and time. Your money back if I'm wrong.
@GeorgieWise My dad died when i was 11 months old, he left me his banjo and i learned how to play it. i've been playing for 12 years now and i believe i will follow in his footsteps. he died in 1996 because he was murdered. i will always miss him and i hope people will know me like they knew him. i wish i could tell him how i proud i am of him though. Sincerely, Jordan Masters
@jtmasters13 You already feel the presence of your dad when you play his banjo. It's clear sailing from this point on. Tell Larry to give you a year to master playing his songs and then take you on tour. Two generations of banjo for one man is very much Lengendary Larry. You have the good vibes surrounding you man, just like Lar.
Larry Sparks is the consummate bluegrass professional. Any bluegrass picker worth his salt would jump at the chance to back him up. He's the Bob Dylan of Bluegrass Music for that generation (mine) and many more to come. Totally professional because he feels the music deserves that respect. So do I.
I catered an old Austin City Limits show and Larry sat across from Ralph Stanley while eating. They both talked about their farms, feed prices, etc. Larry told me that Ralph starts a song during the show and "we just have to catch up." No play list. This gave the camera operators on ACL fits. They acted like family the whole time.
I have always been told Larry is Carter Stanley's son. That was the reason Carter took Larry out on the road with the Stanley Brothers the year before he died. I believe it.. He has mannerisms like Carter.
How do I keep finding myself randomly watching and commenting on the same videos as Jan Lewis? It's because bulbheadmyass has excellent musical taste from the same era as I do. The rest of y'all need to get on board as quickly as possible. It's a hell of a fine ride.
@dogsee1 Bite yourself, he is more than that good. I could care less about his personal life it is the music we are talking about here and next to Keith Whitley he is the absolute best bluegrass singer out there, not to mention his playing. From someone who has been a fan of bluegrass since the late fifties and has heard them all. Seen him several times and puts on an awesome show.
Im so upset that we don't hear this on the radio....what's the problem....don't they know good music when they hear it.....it's so sad that we don't hear this all the time on the radio
I had my first bluegrass jam last sunday. Man I am hooked its great to listen too and very fun to play. I love how you just join in although I have alot to learn I wish there was a away to listen to stanard blue grass tunes without spending an arm and leg on cd's
I have b een listening to bluegrass all my adult life and that's a lot of years, no other music can beat it.......you should find some of Rhonda Vincent........wow.....she's also something else to listen to.....
I'm just overwhelmed.....your the best .....I have been listening to you know for two hours and now I'm checking you out on You tube..can' t get enough of this wonderful music.....what we do without you and others like you
Larry has always been a top notch bluegrass performer. (always loved his guitar breaks) He did his best to fill some gigantic shoes when Carter passed on. The 1st time I heard "Think of What You've Done" was by Larry when Dave was in the band. Since then I've got the original Stanley version which I give a few notches higher rating, but you can't knock Larry & Dave's version!
Larry has been my favorite bluegrass singer for over 30 years. I saw him perform in Hugo, Oklahoma in the late 70's and was already familiar with his music. He's so dignified.
Dave evans is number 1 on that list.Get the tape larry sparks sings hank williams and listen to "Im so lonesome i could cry"dave evans was singing tenor.well lets say ive never heard someone sing tenor like that ever!
Think the way "he shrugs his shoulders" doesn't look familiar....It has been told for years that Larry is the illegitimate son of Carter Stanley...I believe it too...
This is one of my favorite song by Larry.
