I've owned both and I prefer the AR-15. I think the AR is easier to clean, better ergonomics, lighter recoil, and my AR hasn't even thought of having a stoppage of any sort. Also, my AR (18" barrel) will shoot 6" groups off hand at 100yds at 1 shot per second.
try you a Ruger Mini 30 and you'll throw that mini 14 away,,I have both and the mini 30 is so superior to the mini 14 its pathetic,,,I love them both but if we were in a gun fight against each other trust me you'd be out gunned with me shooting the mini 30,,,,good shooting you done there brother.
Used several M16's in the Army during the early 1970's. Every 400 hundred rounds they got hinkey and then jammed. I do not like or trust the direct gas impingment system worth a dam. (I loved the unstopable M14) They may have got the AR bugs out, but once bitten, forever shy. I recently bought the Mini 14 581 series in 5.56 (A miniature M14) and it works just fine. Also found new Ruger factory 20 round mags for 18 bucks a pop.
an impact sound does NOT constitute a group, and the Mini-14 will NEVER outshoot an AR-15 out of the box... ever.
compare group sizes, and on average, the AR's shoot a THIRD of the size a MIni-14 can group. and it isnt just barrel harmonics, it's the DI lack of warming and slamming a heavy slide/piston unit.
also, the ergonomics on a Mini flat out suck.
but, you should post another video of GROUPS.. not just military "hit"
ar15 is a better combat rifle but judging on your looks you wont need to put it under that situation, and ur buddy shooting the ar is prob. a fuckin dumb ass, and u showed him shoot two shots wtf did you prove, that ur a better shot
My AR15 went 3 years and a couple thousand rounds without being cleaned... It was still running fine, but I figured oh well. There was an absurd amount of carbon build up but it was still running. I'm not sure what these people are running that's such high maintenance? Mine has required less attention than any AK I've ever owned. (Legit izhmash ones anyway.) Maybe you guys should ditch what ever it is you have and get an RRA.
Mini 14, good, AR-15, good, AK-47, good. I'm not preparing to shoot anything 200 yards with either one, that's what a good long rifle with a scope is for. I'll be using those as well as a handgun for CQC when SHTF.
AR is a superior design. The muzzle rise from recoil is less due to the position of the pistol grip. The rotation point for the rise is in the shoulder on an AR. It is is in the wrist for the Mini 14 (one of the points that won over the Military from using the M14). The AR, quite simply, is designed for soldiers; The Mini is designed for civilians. Keep your opinions, but remember, 3 wars, 5 conflicts, and about 46 years of faithful service. What more must the AR do to prove itself?
@lancebaker155 nobody won over the military for the AR. Everyone that flagged this rifle as garbage lost their job, untill their came a day when nobody remembered having a better rifle for general issue. The modern M4 blows harder than a busload of homos...Jim Sullivan (helped Stoner, the failed aircraft engineer, design it) wrote the M16 off as an embarrasment.
@lancebaker155 It wasn't because of the stock. They could have easily issued a M14 with a straight stock and pistol grip if it was as simple as that. They already did it with a LMG version of the M14. A much bigger reason for replacing the M14 with the M16 was weight and fire rpower. They found the AK to have greater firepower and they needed a weapon to counter that, so they fielded the M16. The M16 was a lighter weapon, along with the ammo. And more easier to shoot rapid fire/full auto.
I Have owned a mini for a couple of years while all my friends are ar guys they have shot my 500 series mini and all have changed their minds on what this gun can do. price not being a factor the mini is more reliable and can shoot just as well as all but the custom ar's out there but there are mini custom shops as well.
@Miscreant435 AR=High maintenance??? If I were you, I'd piss on whomever moron that told you that's grave. The AR-15 has incredibly simple maintenence, a button near the trigger gets pressed in, you open her up, pull out the bolt, take the bolt apart, and you're ready to clean it all. For the price-efficiency-usage, if you paid 700 for your mini-14 you've made a mistake. I'm an AK-47 man, but an AR-15, you just can't ever go wrong with one unless it's a cheaply made POS.
@TheQuestenberg Seems to me that most people who have used the AR platform in actual combat come home and buy....something else. It's possible that all of the vets I know just happened to be morons who didn't know how to maintain their AR, but somehow managed to maintain any other rifle, sure. I guess it's also possible that I know all people who got the flukes.
I think it's much more likely that the AR was adopted because of political ties, not solid design or engineering. I'll keep my SKS :)
@TheQuestenberg You're kinda right. My wife, that's high maintenance. ARs though are HELLA high maintenance. Not high as in difficult, high as in twice or thrice a day for a rifle that goes everywhere you go if you want it to fire when you pull the trigger. High as in if you fire more than triple digits, you need to clean it, before you finish your string of fire, unless you don't care if it stops mid-mag.
@TheQuestenberg I think you are confusing ease of take down vs maintenance. You are taking about how easily it is to field strip an AR, maintenance refers to how often you have to do so
i have a mini 14 nra version ...i been to the range with ar 15 and looked at thier hits you cant tell the differance ....i say its 90% shooters skill and 10% the rifle
I love my mini eats that Russian ammo right up.By the way looks like a big tornado in the background.

@lancebaker155 And you can buy straightline AR type stock for the Mini 14. I think the AR is a better rifle then the Mini 14.

I showed the miss's also, 20 round clip only missed a few...listen for the ring of the gong.

@gasdorf I disagree i think it would be 60%skill and 40% gun
Just because you can have alot of skill but if you have a zero star accuracy gun you wont be shooting a 90% you'll be shooting a 60% :)
lol
