Yes, you can put them in full screen, and no, they don't run slower with Wine than in Windows. If anything, they run faster because you don't have all the unnecessary stuff Windows runs in the background.
Granted, I've not played any of my games in Windows, but I've not really run into low frame-rate with Linux in my games. I've got an AMD Athlon 3200+ (2GHz), MSI RX2400 Pro (ATi HD2400, 256MB DDR3 RAM). Then again, the only game I've played with WINE so far is Half-Life, and I ran it at 1440x900 and never noticed slow down. The other games I play are Doom 3, Quake 3, and Quake 4 (Runs good/Runs well/Need better hardware).
I understand what you're saying, but it is a trade off either way.
Half-Life uses Open GL so it has no problem running (not to mention the fact that it's an eight year old engine). I'm on linux right now and the performance simply isn't on par with windows, even when forcing DirectX 8.1 for Source.
Vista blows when it comes to games. My friend has a monster machine computer and even UEFA 2008 was unplayable even with the lowest settings. I'd say go with XP, atleast until Linux starts supporting games.

Omfg! You are so pathetic! Why do Linux people need to emulate some games? Caus of the game developers developing their games for Windows! Not for the sake that Windows is the "best" (it hurts to write WINDOWS and BEST in the same sentense btw) OS. It's because the market looks like that right now. And its the best way for them to make money. So dont talk shit like that when u obviousley dont have any idéa what you are talking about!
First of all. When i am thinking of something that tries to imitate something else on a computer i think of an emulator. I know, it runs on dll's, but the thing is... you are imitating a windows environment? i just don't get that. Please respond and explain. I really want to learn the difference. Thanks

Holy fucking shit this is so awesome. Like I need to get Linux right now! because Windows won't ever run CS. God damn you M$ you filthy bastard.
You among others I have seen are part of the Ubanto script kiddies and if Linux is a community, then you shame them.
Instead of making really good games for Linux you just emulate others showing that running a Windows native game in Linux is so fucking awesome. Way to defeat the purpose of a stable OS.
There are many awesome absolutely free games out there for Linux. And video game companies make games mostly not us you dumbass. More and more companies make linux ports. Neverwinter Nights , Doom 3 and many other. Until there's a Linux port for every windows game , that's the only way to play windows games without all the other bullcrap.
Hey there. How did you get the window transmission to turn faster? Mine is smooth, but really too slow for my taste. Also when I play games using more than one desktop my game will just start spinning like crazy, and there is no way to stop it.
linux is cooler and more stable than windows xp... but i think vista is faster than linux... at least i think vista has better support for dualcore :) but anyway i always use linux.. linux rocks!
I bought a new laptop with vista on it and now my laptop runs Ubuntu. It runs faster on this operating and supports my dual core processor. Linux Rocks!!
holy shit thats the same shit that i have .... one cuestion a have many games on my computer but i want linux on my pc but at the same time i want to play my games what do you say
is there any other way to launch windows apps other than wine(the one u need to pay-to-use doesnt count)?
yes i did use wine 1.0. actually i did install steam, and then dwnloaded TF2, but steam chat didnt work. it did, but chat windows didnt refresh. and TF2 was giving out horrible fps(think of 8-10) on lowest possible graphical settings wth 800*600 resolution. yet on vista i get ~~38 fps on high settings with 1024*768(1280*1024 desktop resol).
No Wine is the only windows launcher and if you check winehq it says with some special configurations, tf2 wil work flawlessly. so you just need to look up how to configure wine for it.
i did configure it every possible way,but still, no luck. i could actually make it work on 20 fps on low-polygon maps? but i had huge black boxes behind GUI parts. which made it impossible to see surroundings. ill just stay on window till next year release of ubuntu, and if wine crew fixed the bugs i had, then ill probably stay on linux.
wow you are a tard, first its kernel not kernal. And if you use GNU/Linux all the time than you are using linux. See the little "/Linux" you got there with that it really implies the use of linux
How do you get it to run so smoothly? O.o

Forget about Linux gaming unless you have a Nvidia card 8800 GT or greater, and a dual core CPU
Single core cpu will work but your fps might not be as high as you want it

Yes, you can put them in full screen, and no, they don't run slower with Wine than in Windows. If anything, they run faster because you don't have all the unnecessary stuff Windows runs in the background.
FuzzyGhost 2 years ago
They do still run at lower framerates than in windows. Even though you have less running the games are simply not designed for Linux.

When you use the .dll you have no need to emulate
because you are actually running that little part of a windows system in order to run the game
sorry it's taken me so many months to reply lol

how did u install cs on linux.... i cant find out how to do it, :P pls help :)
linnejon 4 years ago 5
Install Wine.
Download the steam installer from steampowered(dot)com.
Download tahoma.ttf, search in google.
Drag the tahoma.ttf to your ~.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts
Go to terminal, located in Applications>Accessories>Terminal, and type the following: wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi
Sign into your account after steam updates and download CS: Source.
This should get it installed for you.

Boot up a computer with a Linux disk. Click install. Choose use guided install - whole hard drive. Click install.
