I wish she would publish a CD with that interpretation. For example I like her middle part playing more than the one of Alexis Weissenberg or Beresovsky. :)

Valentina is a great pianist and should be more well known and although she shines no matter what piece she plays, nowhere does she shine brighter than when she is playing Rachy. I think this is funny, because in an interview she once said that didn't play Rachmaninoff for a long time, because she thought he was too sentimental.Ha. We can all rejoice that she got over that!!!

I can't watch these videos too much, it makes me want to give up playing classical guitar. I pick it up to play and I can't make it sound anything like this, it's not fair really. When I am not jealous I am awed by her talent and Rachmaninoff's composing abilities.

Try getting the piano with you at the beach, or at the winter resort, a school party or whatever. Not fair, indeed, eh!

What a pity the piano is so out-of-tune. Maybe that's why this movement seems rather hastily played, to get past those twangy moments!

Perhaps you would like to hear this on a Baroque organ, in keys well fit to the intonation.

As far as the piano in the recording goes, it sounds like the ideal piano. Sure it's tuned to equal temperament, but its equal temperament is practically perfect

Yes, I agree that Valentina could do real justice to the Horowitz/Rachmaninoff 2nd Sonata. Hope she changes her mind someday and performs it.  She sure changed my mind about the 1st Sonata--I have never liked it until I heard Valentina play it.

Personaly, if she was to play it I would rather her play the original 1913 version. When I play the original and hear the revision I think to myself "what was Rachmaninoff thinking?" All of the other versions/revisions just don't do it for me.

Valentina and her husband being two of the greatest pianists must have made a considered choice for versions.

Also others like Weissenberg chose this version.
