I don't know why you weren't queueing up your party's attacks during Ozma's attacks. The main exploit of her A.I. that I used in the battle was the fact that if you perform and action while her ATB is loading, it'll reset to full and she'll always have precedent. If you toggle all of your actions while she's attacking she'll never counter you with anything. It makes the fight SO MUCH easier. I also did it without Excalibur 2 (unfortunately).
@Ungodlydemon I think it's apparent that he was going for more of a challenge here, seeing as how he didn't complete the friendly monster side-quest to weaken the boss. The Excalibur II isn't much of a benefit considering the only thing useful for Steiner in this situation is using the Sword Arts he can learn from other swords.
Oh yes Ozma I remember the first time I ever fought him. I knew jack crap and didn't even know what the doomsday spell was. However he had the pleasure of showing me. I didn't even get a chance to see the ATB gauge when he casts that #@$%#@# spell and killed my entire party in one hit! @Tails4543 I beat this guy on a level one game on disk 3. It was suprisingly easy. If I recall half of his moves are counters if you try and attack him too soon (if I recall you need to have all four party members with a maximum ATB gauge before attacking or else he will attack you before you can do your move.) But its been about two years so I'm a little fuzzy.
The second is lv 99 pt: Zidane (still Theivery 9999); Garnet (99 amethyst + Atomos); Eiko (holy x4 with auto-reflect pt); Vivi (Bio x8 with auto-reflect & reflect x2); Steine's shock 9999; Freya Dragon's Crest 9999; Quina's Frog Drop; Amarant (i found he only useful with no mercy). With my lv 99, it esier, but lv 1 is fun cus harder to keep pt lv 1 till meet Ozma ^^

I love ff9 out of all the final fantasy series. I saw that Bahamut was enslaved & Alexander was killed by Garland..however with Ozma i don't think it would be easy to do this,..I managed to fight Hades & got excalibur2 but Ozma over all was THEE bad ass and the hardest to beat,..i don;t think Ozma could be controlled. Lol, its more like try to kill or be killed,..or even die in the process.

What I liked was finding and beating the 'special bosses' eg- ruby, emerald, omega, ultima etc, but FF9 gives me a multi-coloured ball as my secret boss!? ahh c'mon square why you have to be so lazy, you could of thought of something a little bit better than a friggin ball with a few colours on.

woo god i hate this oversized jawbreaker lol. It has little health but its a pure gamble fighting it due to all its spells and speed regardless of your levels and gear. Eiko IS A MUST here with her auto phoenix summon and full life spell. I recommend garnet as a secondary healer and offensive caster as well as amarant with his valuable alan skills and heavy physical attacks. Unless you're a veteran player, i dont recommend vivi, steiner or quina because they just arent defensive enough.
@RukudoSage69 i very very recommend quina because of his magic hammer..just try to use that..it'll make ozma like a cry baby when he run out his MP..LoL
@tracegerry not really, he has Absorb MP (osmose with 0 mp cost) it's entirely luck based on wether or not he'll do it once he runs out of MP. I did magic hammer on him too got 3 off for like 2K he absorbed all of Eiko's mp two turns later and wiped my pt with Meteor.

@Pcyst I read the ozma was originally an eidolon that couldnt be controlled by summoners and was exiled. However it lost its true form and appears as a sphere.
@saitodono88 Yeah doomsday is a shadow attack, so items like pumice piece and ninja gear absorb it. Therefore everytime he uses doomsday you get healed. It's nice. And my strategy is having Vivi with "return magic" so there is always a chance he'll use doomsday right after Ozma.
However I still have not been able to kill it yet. It's on my priority list at the moment.
@spike007980 It doesnt mean he has to do it before Ozma, you get nothing for friendly monster other than an easier Ozma fight and nothing restricts him/her from doing later.

I loved this fight, especially while doing the "Level One Ozma Challenge." Ozma was ridiculously easy with the right equips in my opinion. The hardest part about the Level One challenge is staying level one till Ozma. xD Lot's of fleeing and petrifying. x.x;
@ThePocketManster yeah i hadn't realized that back then...i just always saw shock doing 9999 damage but when i got it a lil early with a weak steiner..it only did 6743 damage.
i beat ozma in disk 3. I really dont have those best weapons yet. Steiner got ragnarok. zidane got orichalcon, Eiko got siren's flute and quina have bistro fork. Not the best weapon. But i got lucky. I really dont understand why ozma just keep on healing himself. So i just bullied him. But im equipt with two ribbons
first time i fought ozma, I was surprised i won. I stole all the items. But the problem is 3 of the characters got virus befor the fight. hahaha. Im not serious to fight ozma then. I just tried. Really so lucky is won it in the first try. Ozma all did is, curaga, curaga, curaga.hahaha i just fought the yan before fighting ozma, thats why 3 have viruses. Because im leveling the 4th one.
@wsz71 ozma is an optional boss. If your a gamer, of course you want to try the strongest boss. Besides the reward is incredible. Just stealing the robe of lords is fulfilling. Then there is the black matter and purmice. And there are more items after you beat him. And the ABILITY POINTS he will give is 100 points.

1. Hidden boss, he is also the strongest enemy in the entire game, much like Emerald Weapon from FF7. He can only be found after you have bred a golden chocobo i think.
From what ive found they dont really make hard bosses in FF. You just have to put the time in and you will beat them which i like and dont like (Excluding Penance). If they made like 5 bosses that were super hard even when ur team was maxed out that shit would be tight.
Depends on how you define, "hard". It could be anywhere to taking a long time to prepare to have every best possible equipment available in game and at lv.99 and the boss could still rip you a new one.
I did Twister (and my Quina is higher level than yours...) and at one point it did like 86. Did it again and it did around 2000, and again for about 6000.
Also with its melee attacks, random damage. I don't get Quina at all.
@drfeelgud88 well im not sure about some of his blue magic, but i know that forks always deal random damage, and he has one attack were if he's at one health he'll always deal 9999 damage i forget its name, but its really easy to use, its what i used to do in early boss battles, i havent played in a long time tho.
@drfeelgud88 also his frog drop attack i remember now will do more damadge depending on how many frogs you've caught, i do believe, so it's semi easy to max that out
If you complete the Friendly Creatures sidequest then Zidane can actually damage Ozma, plus she no longer absorbs Shadow, so you can spam Doomsday with Vivi while healing your party. Also, how strong is your Frog Drop? Cuz it kinda kicks ass.
it annoys me that you never get to know anything about the strongest of enemies in the final fantasies. i mean who is ozma, who is penance (ok he's supposed to judge but thats it?)? who are the ultima/omega weapons? ruby weapon etc?
@mountom You never know.. They could release a game were you get to know who they are and at the same time kinda grow around the world they were in... Like as your own "boss" ! XD
@mountom well in FF7 they tell you ruby weapon and all the others where weapon created by the planet to defend against the invader jenova. They were in a slumber for years until the power of jenova was revived

@loomp You get to Ozma by completing the Chocobo hot & cold mini-game. If you want an online strategy guide check out Gamefaqs.com, I dunno about the Wizard of Oz thing and no It doesnt change the games ending.
@SchizoRiku i have done that just kinn the arms then use 5 cheers and the item that reduses mp cost to 0 plus get auto potion and mix a trio of 9999 then quick hit and dispel all statuses as they happen.you owe me one slave

I did it more than once.. never use Zanmato, cheats and never use limit break.. actually using limit break on penance gonna waste turns.. just use usual attack on him... too bad I can't show the proof cos I played it in ps2 long before and I don't think I want to play it again using emulator..

much as I love IX, Ozma's a bit of a shit superboss. I always found the best thing to do is simply spam your strongest attacks (Thievery, Wing Edge, Shock, Dragon Breath...) and just hope you don't encounter Virus or Meteor. So long as you have some shadow/holy protection, your chances are pretty good.
Still, beats the tedious grind that is Yiazmat by a longshot.
Awesome...This should have been the last boss. I never understood what Necron evn had to do with the story in FF9. Seems kinda like he was tacked on at the last minute. Maybe I am wrong. Would someone tell me if I missed an element to the story??
Nothing....but it's a moot point 'cause Necron had nothing to do with it either. Both are interchangeble as neither make any sense being in the game. I'd choose Ozma for more of a challenge. Necron was too easy to beat.

And when i started fighting her it was so damn easy..:D

I was lvl 69 max when i beat him, and i was using (i think some french names are differents) Dagga, Djidane, Steiner and Bibi.
It was hard and Dagga was the only survivor.
I don't remember why but i could damage him with Ark and Apocalypse.

I loved this fight, especially while doing the "Level One Ozma Challenge." Ozma was ridiculously easy with the right equips in my opinion. The hardest part about the Level One challenge is staying level one till Ozma. xD Lot's of fleeing and petrifying. x.x;

@ThePocketManster yeah i hadn't realized that back then...i just always saw shock doing 9999 damage but when i got it a lil early with a weak steiner..it only did 6743 damage.

i beat ozma in disk 3. I really dont have those best weapons yet. Steiner got ragnarok. zidane got orichalcon, Eiko got siren's flute and quina have bistro fork. Not the best weapon. But i got lucky. I really dont understand why ozma just keep on healing himself. So i just bullied him. But im equipt with two ribbons

first time i fought ozma, I was surprised i won. I stole all the items. But the problem is 3 of the characters got virus befor the fight. hahaha. Im not serious to fight ozma then. I just tried. Really so lucky is won it in the first try. Ozma all did is, curaga, curaga, curaga.hahaha i just fought the yan before fighting ozma, thats why 3 have viruses. Because im leveling the 4th one.

@wsz71 ozma is an optional boss. If your a gamer, of course you want to try the strongest boss. Besides the reward is incredible. Just stealing the robe of lords is fulfilling. Then there is the black matter and purmice. And there are more items after you beat him. And the ABILITY POINTS he will give is 100 points.

1. Hidden boss, he is also the strongest enemy in the entire game, much like Emerald Weapon from FF7. He can only be found after you have bred a golden chocobo i think.

From what ive found they dont really make hard bosses in FF. You just have to put the time in and you will beat them which i like and dont like (Excluding Penance). If they made like 5 bosses that were super hard even when ur team was maxed out that shit would be tight.

Depends on how you define, "hard". It could be anywhere to taking a long time to prepare to have every best possible equipment available in game and at lv.99 and the boss could still rip you a new one.

What is Quina's formula for damage?
I did Twister (and my Quina is higher level than yours...) and at one point it did like 86. Did it again and it did around 2000, and again for about 6000.
Also with its melee attacks, random damage. I don't get Quina at all.

@drfeelgud88 well im not sure about some of his blue magic, but i know that forks always deal random damage, and he has one attack were if he's at one health he'll always deal 9999 damage i forget its name, but its really easy to use, its what i used to do in early boss battles, i havent played in a long time tho.

In my observations, yeah, the forks do random damage and some of his blue magic also; e.g, Twister.
The blue magic you are referring to is (if I'm not mistaken) Limit Glove.
There's gotta be some sort of formula for Quina, unless it is pure random damage and with a bit of "luck."

If you complete the Friendly Creatures sidequest then Zidane can actually damage Ozma, plus she no longer absorbs Shadow, so you can spam Doomsday with Vivi while healing your party. Also, how strong is your Frog Drop? Cuz it kinda kicks ass.

@loomp You get to Ozma by completing the Chocobo hot & cold mini-game. If you want an online strategy guide check out Gamefaqs.com, I dunno about the Wizard of Oz thing and no It doesnt change the games ending.

I did it more than once.. never use Zanmato, cheats and never use limit break.. actually using limit break on penance gonna waste turns.. just use usual attack on him... too bad I can't show the proof cos I played it in ps2 long before and I don't think I want to play it again using emulator..

much as I love IX, Ozma's a bit of a shit superboss. I always found the best thing to do is simply spam your strongest attacks (Thievery, Wing Edge, Shock, Dragon Breath...) and just hope you don't encounter Virus or Meteor. So long as you have some shadow/holy protection, your chances are pretty good.
Still, beats the tedious grind that is Yiazmat by a longshot.

Nothing....but it's a moot point 'cause Necron had nothing to do with it either. Both are interchangeble as neither make any sense being in the game. I'd choose Ozma for more of a challenge. Necron was too easy to beat.

Necron's meant to be a throwback to the "SURPRISE FINAL BOSS" in the old days (e.g. Zeromus, Neo Exdeath).
