  • you know whats amazing? COUNTRY HOUSE BY BLUR WHEN HE COMES OUT!!!!

  • When they do the rock paper game he walks over and puts his hand on the black box at 5:59 there is someone in the box they wrote the results they are in the black box, he picks it up there. The reason I caught it was because the rock game was not on the results. the paper is put into his shoe by his wife in the box there is a cut slot in the shoe

  • They were right about the note going down his pantleg but it's pretty obvious he puts the note in there when he fiddles with his belt.

  • treller gang or die

  • Yea 7:16 is the point he slips in the folded chit.....when he's taking of the shoe he takes time to lift the foot n let the chit in the shoe before handing to Ross..

  • im pretty sure that the whole "prostate" exam was an excuse for him to put the paper down his pants, therefore not using his pockets.

  • some form of multiple outs

  • Nice trick, he gets them focused on the rock paper scissor game enough for him to get the note from someone probably hidden in that box.

  • THUMBS UP this reveal. A stage hand /assistant writes the answers on the paper and then puts them on a missing piece of magnetized sole that attaches to Richard's shoe to complete the sole, also simultaneously placing the note in his shoe.

You can see Richard while he most likely replaces his magnetic sole at 6:20 after the stage hands bring in the podium for the prop brief case to be placed on. Richard is careful to replace the missing piece of his sole and then reveal the note inside.

  • My guess: Theres a person (prob a kid) inside that rectangular box to the right of the stage who wrote the piece of paper. The magician shouts out the results after each round to make sure the person inside the box hears it. During the tie breaker 6:00 (rock-paper-scissor) he walks over to the box to retrieve the results. there will be two copies, one for teller winning, the other for penn winning, he puts them both down each of his pant legs. then takes off the shoe with the right answer.

  • 4:03 with the belt again?

  • the magician had a smurf in the shoe which he wrote on the paper! I'm sure!

  • You thought, that he wrote it with his foot, at least I think it is possible like that. You just have to practice, that it is looking handwritten.

  • 7:14 he adjusts his belt so he didn't use his pocket ,he used the front of his pants.

  • * identical shoe [containtaining the note] that was written offstage.

  • The editing is unfair on the viewer: how did the table (which the briefcase was placed on) get onto stage? I agree with ChaseRocker that this contained an identical shoe that was written offstage. Again, editing prevented us from seeing when the shoe switch happened. The gloves are a nice idea as it gives something to be put in the breifcase but also prevents Jonathan from realising that shoe is cold and hasn't been warn for long. Nice trick.

  • and what a genuine bit of fun, too : )

for the hosts, audience, and magician himself!

  • ...either way; rock-paper-scissors was definitely a (THE) diversion. they (he and assistant) probably "guessed" who'd win it cuz 50-50 chance of being right on that one (we'd forgive/forget if he missed this one) but, the other two contest results are the only ones that matter and need to be "accurate" to make this appear to really work.

  • @nemobassify I cant piece it together but it involves an assistant as he said "he" did not write it and when he did the rock paper scissor if you look on the floor by the table there is a pad which may have been used

  • @nemobassify id like to note the prediction was written by 2 different hand writings the names and subject(Penns score:, etc..) is neat and in lower-case and pre-written the scores and words are written in all caps and seem to be forged off the first writing note the Ts in teller then in toilet they are different style. lastly look at the "Teller WINS i think it may have been pre-written in lower-case to look like it was written fast as WINS which is in upper-case would need to be written fast

  • Comment removed

  • @scottyL842 cont....| to be placed before getting noticed and it could have finished "teller WINS!/LOOSES! | I also believe camera angles and shots may be a key factor why us the viewers can not see the placement of the sheet

  • I think shoe gets loaded during rock-paper-scissors...watch how he walks off to the table to count for the second round.

  • Interesting...

  • @richardbellarsmagic , you said that you did not write it. Can I ask you something?

Someone else wrote all the scores. Your act involved an assistant. You had someone inside that black box near that initially had the darts on top acting as a table.

My question is, am I right?

  • @magnamsaber I can tell you you are not because he leaves the table before teller wins the game therefor the person in the box could not have put it in the shoe after writing it but from the way he observes the table i do believe it played a crucial role in his trick but i may be wrong

  • they shuld of seen his other shoe? ;d

  • 7:14

  • im not sure how he got in inside his shoe as the camera wasnt on him all the time, but I did notice he put his hands at his side a lot and there was something going on with his belt, so I believe thats how he kept and wrote on the paper. Im quite sure the whole briefcase thing was a distraction for the displacement of the paper though.

  • @16m49x3 He said he didn't write it though. I'm assuming he had an assistant in hiding, either beneath one of the tables, perhaps with a small slot leading to the outside where pen and teller weren't apt to see it, and then a slight of hand after he wrote it to both nab the paper and manage to get it into his shoe. Impressive none the less, but I think if he had written it he would have been called out as surely they must have to share the secret with some other Judge (one mentioned on season 1)

  • @DarkBunnyLord I wish I was in the audience so I could watch him thoughout the show XD cause I have no idea.

  • where can i watch the video where he failed to fool them?

  • The "prediction" is written offstage by someone else and loaded into the small table which the briefcase is placed on...either as just a piece of paper or in an identical shoe which is switched.

  • you should read this it could and will change your life forever

  • 2 questions for richard, could you do this trick without your belt, could you do the trick in shorts?

7:04, the host transfers the answers to him can see no other way of the answers getting to him, 7:14 its transfered through his belt somehow( some sort of contraption, simple to construct) to his shoe. 7:22 he raises his right foot, putting it underneath his sock (real smooth btw nice job)

took me a while, almost as long as the criss angel stuff really good job man you are really good!

  • @winnah2314 Of course he can't do that dressed in shorts. But still I'm not sure whether the "prediction" was written by him or by someone else. Probably by him but then it was very well done.

  • @winnah2314 there are 2 tables on the stage... Both are huge. Fact is this trick couldn't have been done without someone saying out loud the results.

  • did you have anything in your other shoe

  • @vultar321 because it wasn't a move.. They didn't fall for the fake move. Well not that one anyway. ;)

  • @consmith87 thanks dude. Ill be posting it all up on my channel as soon as I'm back.

  • @123321mushy nothing went down my leg.... They were all red herrings ;)

  • Yup it's me, the actual one. Scouts honour :)

  • all i can say is 7:16

  • 7:16 and I wonder why neither pen or teller or anyone else noticed that move..

  • @Vultur321 The belt? I am sure many noticed. But he covered it up as a joke.

  • edsaf asdf

  • 5:56 look of a dead man

  • podium

  • I think he changed shoes with one hidden by an assistant in the table where they put the briefcase, he said he did not write the prediction... he had someone else do it and hide in in a "spare shoe" inside the table stand... the table stand is too thick to just be a stand. That's my guess... I just saw this video and have not look up the trick... just my assumption. cheers!

  • How about Jonathan Ross as the accomplise.

  • @kevensnes Ooh nice idea.

  • o letters weare limited so teller had to winn becouse he didnt say bad stuff about him

it is very simplistic but I can learn from the effect gj

  • mo may be the anwser for some reasons but I havent worked it out yet.

I fink I ll work on my own version but then I will have to carry dart bord and darts

  • the premise is to aim big and even if you compromise , you end up high up there

however it was an extrime example

he could have missed a bit but hand writing was amazing so Im not sure what happened

was it another faked move to give more possibilities for explanatrion?

p and t go for easiest one becouse it only make sense to put the move in most eficiant way

so they jump on it like a fish on a bait

  • Personally I felt kinda cheated at the end of this trick. Although he didn't directly say that the prediction was in the briefcase, the point was to make people think it was in it. When he revealed the prediction from his shoe, the "magic" if you will, of the trick, totally disappeared.

  • @Sarthanan There was likely a point to the briefcase. Likely a distraction for something he was doing with his shoe. (Maybe someone sticking the note through a hole in his shoe or something)

  • @ThomasWadeFraser two points here, I agree with you that this version is nowhere near as entertaining as the live one, but I was there to Fool P&T and so had to adjust it. And secondly, there is NO SWITCH. At all I promise. What's in the shoe is what is read out. I never touch it.

Cheers for the feedback thought all helps.

    Merry Christmas good sir.

    Rich

  • @Roya11s I'll take that bet "dawg" as it can totally be done in shorts.... I've released the method, look it up ;)

  • What an unbelievable unentertaining trick. The fact that the prediction is SO CLEARLY switched (even if the audience doesn't know quite how) makes everything that preceded it pointless.

This is the worst sort of magic. Why? Because it commits the carnal sin of entertainment: he insults his audience.

  • @richardbellarsmagic , can i make a guess?

  • It did NOT go down either leg guys, and I didn't use my toes. They were genuinely fooled I promise. Thanks for watching. I'll be video blogging Vegas in January on my channel. Richardbellarsmagic

    Much love

  • @richardbellarsmagic Seems a lot of winners are heading to Vegas in January - you, Shawn Farquhar, Mathieu Bich, and probably more. Was that just decided as the best time for their/your schedules?

  • @richardbellarsmagic LOL well I fucking bet you cannot do this with shorts dawg...

  • @richardbellarsmagic I am really proud of you Richard, all the best in Vegas :)

  • @richardbellarsmagic it was the podium. stagehand..

  • @richardbellarsmagic Congratulations man, you deserved it!

  • @richardbellarsmagic If this is in fact you:

It was a simple psychology trick. Penn says implanting thoughts is "bullshit", but as a 6-year student of psychology, I know differently. Were it me, I would have aranged various parts of the games in very specific ways so that when I used key words to plant ideas in their subconscious, they would be predisposed to choose the letters and "rock-paper-scissors" that they did. The dart game would use similar tactics.

Am I on the right track?

  • @SeedsOfHatred you can't implant thoughts into trained magicians sorry it just doesn't work. We are all prepared for this kind of situations.

  • @gpolenik Haha. Even trained magicians are operating with fallible Human minds.

NO ONE is immune to mental manipulation. Not a single person.

Having said that; that wasn't even my point.

  • @SeedsOfHatred that is true no one is immune but what I'm trying to say is that we are prepared for these kind of tricks especialy if you're into mentalism and know a lot about human psychology like me. But I agree, NO ONE is immune to it but for example if someone was trying to implant something into you it would be much harder because you would analyse the situation. I know that because I do that and I assume you do it too.

  • @richardbellarsmagic Spectacular job on that trick Richard! Best of luck to you in Vegas

  • @richardbellarsmagic Are you really Richard Bellars? No... can't be... Nuh uh, you're lying... I think.

  • @richardbellarsmagic Good job.

  • @richardbellarsmagic Excellent work!

  • @richardbellarsmagic amazing trick

  • My guess: there is a child or midget inside the black cabinet that writes the two possibles outcomes; notice how all the way Richard out loud every result to assure its heard and after the final contest he approaches and puts his hand over it; ....and maybe in sake of velocity each corner has a different slot and winner, the slight and belt-trousers-shoe is just routine

  • eberyone pelase he said he DIDNT write it, so hats down he fooled us all magicians even when we are watching it from a tv or computer which we can pause and play

  • His girl friend wrote the note, and slid it to him. He takes off his shoe and picks it up with his toes. Try again buddy

  • The host should keep his comments to himself, when Pen challenged him and said went from his pocket down his leg, the host chipped in with:

"It didn't go down his leg" and right there you can see the magician cringe.

It did go down his leg, but not from his right pocket!

  • one shoe had teller wins, one shoe had penn wins. the assistant in the box filled out two notes with all the info from the first two bits. hi5

  • once he gives him the shoe... he scrambles to get his shoe back... y?

  • @1RED1BLUE because he wants his shoe back

  • He said he DIDN'T WRITE IT?!?!?!

  • He touches his belt every so often. That's where the paper is. The marker must be hanging somewhere around there, easily accessible.

  • Does anyone else realize that Teller won the two games by "Toilet Paper"?

  • He is really good

  • haha teller cheats on the 2nd paper scissors rock

  • Also, if Penn & Teller weren't participants in the tricks, they would probably be able to observe better.

  • At 5:56 he heads over to that black box on stage left (unnecessarily). Probably a hidden assistant writing the note and handing it over?

  • @paul4112 But that was before the winner was determined.

  • Who did he blow to get a second chance?

  • The note was written both ways for both out comes. Placed in both shoes when he walks to the case during the rock paper scissors..

  • The suitcase was a distractor.

  • This show reminds me of "The Prestige"

    with Christian Bale fantastic movie.

  • 5:57 that's the key to the trick. I don't know how or why but it is. There is no need for him to walk over to that black case

  • @bccausey I agree, I was thinking that myself.

I think he does several required steps in sequence, that was definitely an obvious one for sure.

  • Comment removed

  • I teared up when they said he had fooled them. Great trick! I don't want to know how it was done. I am glad I got to enjoy it.

  • this is an EPIC MAGIC WIN xD

  • Oh, but wait. He said in an interview: " 'Contrary to a lot of tweets there was not a midget in the little black box by the dartboard putting the paper in my shoe, and I did not have a row of shoes under the table,' he joked." Maybe it wasn't a midget, then! Hm.

  • what does he say at 09:57?

  • So happy for him!!!

  • he has two shoes... and he could write and put many "predictions" in many other places in his suit beforehand. no trick here?

  • @danielfact The number of possible outcomes would require him to have hundreds of thousands of "outcome notes", so the idea that different predictions were in different areas is shot down quickly.

He does admit he did NOT write the note then states that he did not use his pockets. A kld was in the pedestal the briefcase was on, and inserted it through the front of his shoe while the briefcase was being unlocked. No other option than an accomplice, no cover or time for him to write it.

  • It's true, they have to reveal thier trick to a judicator, it's told in one of the first episodes.

  • At 7:14 he adjusts his belt. That's when he slips the paper down his right leg. How he wrote it I do not know.

  • Comment removed

  • That's exactly what I thought. His leg movements are a little restricted. There must be specially designed printer that can write in variable handwriting font.(Each character has 10-11 different variations). He says he did not pass the note via pocket. So the printer and paper folder must be in his shoe. He uses his toes to type them. (First two toes of both legs?) The bringing back the suitcase and glove thing gives him enough time to complete typing everything. How's that?

  • @PutoProzak Easy, at 6:00 he receives the piece of paper by touching the box. There is one in the box who wrote the paper and gave it to him at 6:00. Very obvious for P&T but they were perfectly distracted by the game this moment.

  • @guitar789 but teller wins the rock paper scissors almost the instant the guy moves away from the box... no one would have been able to write that fast.

  • @violetpolkadots And how much time passes between when Teller wins and he reveals the location of the prediciton. Penn and Teller sit down, then he has Teller walk the suitcase back up, plus a table has time to appear (be moved).

  • @Wolverazio i agree he must have received the paper during that time, but not when he leans on the box at the moment guitar789 pointed out.

  • @PutoProzak no he said he didn't write it.

  • @PutoProzak Cameras were flipping around. Not a steady shot on the guy at all times. He was energetic, and jumping around a lot... He obviously stuffed the note in his shoe when your eyes are looking at something else. Sad that they really admitted to being fooled

  • He did NOT write it, he said. Possibily - understage assistant, slips it in shoe in a similar way to how the "lean shoes" work?

  • The note definitely went down his leg. Notice how the bottom of his pants are rolled inward at the back to catch the note. He shakes his pants a little as he pulls off the shoe to allow the note to drop in.

  • @Loganator21 the tricks are explained to a judicator before the show, so they cannot lie

  • @pibmacme where did you get this info?

  • Comment removed

  • when he invited them onstage I knew this was gonna kick ass

  • What about the pedestal at the dartboard? It doesn't serve a real purpose except to mark distance from the dartboard. He makes his way to it several times, pulling himself away from the group. I think the note was fed there, either by a helper directly via false bottom, or a small wireless printer.

  • No wireless printer. Occam's razor, here. I bet someone was in the pedestal, and the magician has a hole in his shoe (tip of the shoe, perhaps?) and the person in the pedestal wrote the note, folded it, and slipped it into his shoe-hole when the magician walked behind the pedestal.

  • @jeffreyms

very brilliant theory, also perhaps there is another shoe he walks into when he goes behind the pedestal.

this is a phenomenal trick, I really am impressed

  • he tucked the note into his shoe when he opens his belt, you can see him adjust his shoe afterward, around 7:18 ish

  • such a funny guy! love it want to see more of him!

  • how did he do that? any ideas?

  • The "gimmick" that Penn was referring to is the Swami Gimmick. And yes, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to pull that off in the pocket using the swami gimmick.

  • When Penn & Teller were playing RPS he walked over to the other pedestal so maybe the paper was loaded into both shoes then with the other shoe containing the paper that said Penn won or there was only one piece of paper & it was loaded into his shoe while he was stood behind the main pedestal while Teller was bringing the case back onto the stage

  • uh...what if the dart board and letter board transmitted the data wirelessly to a printer in the briefcase with pre-defined "handwritten" fonts and notes?

  • @bztheman us engineers look at these magic problems in the same way. And we're always wrong, lol.

  • @bztheman yea but the note came out of his shoe not the breifcase, the only thing in the breifcase was the glove

  • @bztheman

dude that would be a pretty impressive manipulation of technology xD

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure where this could have happened, but clearly he got two messages, one in each shoe for the results of the RPS. Someone had to have gotten the message on stage in which he could load it into a trick shoe. I'm thinking the pedestal had to be the source, but that would require a trap door beneath it which might not be possible on that stage. Either way, a brilliant routine aimed precisely to defeat Penn and Teller.

  • @kayinnasaki here's my theory: there's a hole in his shoe where his toes are. notice that the paper is folded into a sort of long strip. i think his shoe allows him to grab the paper with his toes from off the floor where it was dropped somehow and make it seem like it came from inside the shoe. the host would have noticed this but i don't think they'd let him ruin the bit from his end. this is just a guess though. otherwise it's some other way of stashing the note when no one is looking.

  • @kayinnasaki but what if it wasn't a tie? why two shoes? and why the suitcase and the gloves at all?

  • @uiuiui7 If it wasn't a tie, then he'd only need to use one shoe. He may have also had them play RPS anyways even if it wasn't a tie. The suitcase and the glove just seem to be a way of falsely creating trust and as a way to give time to have the answers written and get them loaded. Of course this is mostly just semi-informed guessing, but I can' see the suitcase having much purpose. He could load the answer from it, but if the answer gets in the suitcase, why not leave it there?

  • @kayinnasaki Well yes, I can imagine that he used the box and gloves to misguide so he could slip the note into his shoe. I don't think he had a note in both shoes, I think he slipped the note into the shoe at the very last possible moment. That's why he gave the gloves, so the host wouldn'T notice the note not being sweaty at all.

He had to have someone in the audience or backstage write the note. Maybe the host himself was "in" on the trick. But I am almost certain there was only one note.

  • @uiuiui7

While it is certainly quite possible that there was only one note, my guess would be that he would have listed the the winning throw to add to the amount of detail with his prediction. That makes me think that it's an attempt to stall for time and use the rock paper scissors match (as well as the suitcase) as time to get the notes written and loaded. Again, this is based entirely off the fact that he isn't specific with the rockpaper scissors results and the availability of two feet.
