A lot of people don't like Whit because he speaks his mind and is very candid with his opinions. But, this guy has paid his dues in the sport and earned every bit of success he's had, unlike some of the silver spoon drivers that are out there now. It would be nice to see him back on the track in Top Fuel or Funny Car.
safty crew got there quick, but now the safty crew sits around 'til the car stops or until the driver is dead like (R.I.P) Scott Kalitta's crash (well for Kalitta's death he was knocked out & deployed the perachutes, so the NHRA is planning on a devise to deploy the perachutes)
That explosion shot the crank out the bottom of the motor anf it made a whole in the asphalt and the race had to be postponed. I'm surprised they dont't show this more often as in my mind is one of the biggest explosions and wrecks in NHRA history. That was a sick hit in the wall after that concussion of an explosion.
I never knew that this crash was at Columbus til now, my dad use to go to this race. Always got pissed when he wouldn't take me with him. Finally got to go in 1997.
@conrail19900 well the cause of the accident was a crankshaft. it shot out the bottom and into the track causing the nhra to stop qualifying for the day to fix the track. Pretty scary explosion. thanks for posting this!

I think the tire blew out and maybe broke a fuel line.

@fueldragster ok thanks for clarifing that. I thought it was the tire, as it blew out when the motor exploded.
