There is just one string to play, the "sympatic" strings are not fingered but just "sway", that means they sound when the corresponding tone is played on the main string.

cool. so how many strings does it have alltogether?

4 long strings, tuned A A E A

and 10-11 "sympatic" strings, tuned from B-e'

but these 10-11 strings must be retuned for everey raag you play.

Together we have normally 14 strings, but my Dutâr has 15 strings. There was enough place, sop I added one more.

This is good. By any chance do you have any tanburs? The tanbur is also another great instrument, you should hear please.

Go to the link afghanhits,com and in singer list look for "Tanboor". Great songs from Bahudin (Can't spell his name right) But he's a great tanboor player.

Hi, it is so encouraging and inspiring to find talents like you interested in our music. I am living in the US now. I know there are very few Dutar albums available outside Herat as mostly they are recorded locally but you can still find some online. If I come across any, I will certainly let you know.
