  • I got all her books! They have helped me so much! I wish I could meet her for some JKD training, she has over 1000 hours of training with Ted Wong so she should be awesome!

  • I also bought Teri Tom's 'Straight Lead', but oddly enough as a fencer rather than a JKD practitioner. A lot of interesting stuff in there including some good ideas on non telegraphic responses and timing. I checked out this tube out of curiosity to see what she sounded like. She seems quite pleasant, or at least doesn't have that wide eyed intensity some martial artist practitioners suffer from.

  • i wonder if the principles she learned in JFJKD are harnessed by the fighters she helps out. particularly Manny Pacquiao. Manny's a southpaw and a straightshooter much like JKD. although i don't know if manny's left or righthanded.

  • Clearly written, easy to understand info about genuine JKD can be hard to find. Teri Tom's book on the straight lead is exactly that: a clearly written, easy to understand explanation of the Bruce Lee straight lead. She details how to do it, and also why Bruce Lee decided on that particular method of punching the straight lead. No BS, no posturing, just usable info in straight-forward language. A tour de force. And I agree with the poster who said Teri looks cute and pleasant.

  • Ms Tom's book on the straight lead is excellent. In the book, she comes across as a really smart woman who really knows what she is talking about. It's nice to see from this video that she is pleasant and cute as well. She certainly doesn't look butch to me. Nice little video, thanks for posting.

    I've read both books she's penned and she is very thorough and intelligent and knowledgable about what Jeet kune Do is and what it ISN'T.

    Ted Wong states that she is a fantastic JKD exponent.

    I'm sure Mr. Wong knows what he is talking about.

  • 'Receiving the Circle' is a book on Freedman's Method of Jujutsu.

    So she thinks there's gaps in JKD.

  • Zackaryfisk regarding Teri Tom it is fact! As well as studying Jujutsu just now and other arts, she has studied several other arts in the past too. Laughable she puts down Concepts in her articles & book, yet does MMA/Concepts herself! May not be Inosanto lineage or exact arts they do but same principle - she is doing other arts in addition & BLF 'Classical Mess' JKD.

  • FYI, KC - Ted Wong was certified in Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee. He received a 2nd rank in 1967. Dan Inosanto ASSUMED 3rd rank meant you could teach. There is no proof of that. However, after practicing and refining the art of JKD, Ted Wong needs no approval from Inosanto, let alone yourself, to teach an art that was passed down to him by Bruce Lee personally. Ted Wong was Lee's private student. Few can say this.

  • Ted's rank in JKD was a senior student ranking. Try getting your facts straight. After Bruce Lee died, he was given his instructor certificate by DAN INOSANTO.

  • @jkdbrotherhood it was already said in a letter from james jimmy lee sent to gary dill: "Bruce Lee makes the instructors, I Taky and Dan do not.". I don't disagree on the Ted Wong part of your comment, but re-read the quote from that letter now tell me why are there any jkd instructors? Bruce never asked his students to keep the art alive. Any first gen student who certifies people would be therefore a fraud if you strictly stick to what James said in his letter. just sth. to think about

  • @jkdbrotherhood well, since SIFU Inosanto was teaching the chinatown school for Bruce Lee, and Bruce Lee told the students that they all were to call him Sifu, then I guess he had to have been an instructor. Also when Bruce Lee left to Hong Kong, he told Sifu Inosanto that he was in charge of JKD.

    Ted Wong definitely has a great amount of knowledge, not disputing that.

During that time Dan has received an instructor certification in all three arts that Bruce Lee taught (Tao of Chinese Gung Fu, Jun Fan Gung Fu, and Jeet Kune Do). Dan was one of three persons ever to be certified by Bruce Lee. (The two other persons are Taky Kimura, and the late James Lee).

  • aYo Kc1189, Have you heard the phrase,"Jack of all trades & master of none?" Mr. Inosanto taught JKD as one of many Martial Arts at his academy , Philippino arts being his main interest. I trained with both these gentlemen(Wong & Inosanto). Compare the "footwork" on YouTube, & see for yourself. Let alone the "Lead-straight". peace!

  • Terri Tom recieved her training in JKD from Ted Wong. Ted Wong trained under Bruce but was never certified to teach under bruce. It is claimed he recieved rank in JKD. This maybe true. But you need 3rd rank to teach. And Dan Inosanto was the only one to recieve it in JKD. I'm not sure Mr Wong recieved 3rd rank in Jun Fan Gung Fu. But from what I've seen that is what he is teaching. Their is nothing wrong with that. As long as you are fine with the limit of what Bruce taught 45 years ago

  • Let me qualify this. I have her first book. I plan to buy her second book. I'm sure she know more than me and could kick my butt. Only 3 people were ever certified to teach anything under Bruce. Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura & James Lee. Only one man was certified to teach Jeet Kune Do. Dan Inosanto. Any one claiming to teach JKD who was not certified by Dan Inosanto or one of his authorised instructors is not in any way legit way connected to Bruce Lee as an instructor.

    Also they said jumping of a stool and then rebounding back straight away by jumping back onto it with no lag time .this tricks brains "myotatic stretch reflex" and thus makes you faster.

    I dont know to much but you need to stretch the muscle you intend to use fully before you contract it thats why you see people like usain bolt doing fully extended movements in training .

    I have known of the basics and have not gone down the musclehead route.but I dont know that much and Theres not enough space google it on even on youtube there will prolly be some good stuff

  • The body had 2 types of muscle. Fast twitch and slow twitch. Slow twitch is developed more by long distance runners. Sprinters develop more Fast twitch. Its why ducks have so much more dark meat than chickens. White meat is fast twitch.
