i would love to see a cross breed between bluedevils and phantom.....phantom brass line. contras , baris/ euphs mellos then take bluedevils trumpets omg that would be beast then call them selfs the blue regiment
Doing a presentation for History of Christmas (yes, that's an actual class) tomorrow -- going to use this as part of my demonstration of the Ave Maria. Thanks for posting!
I remember watching this at the SE Championship in Atlanta. It's a pretty incredible moment towards the end when they start into the "amen" section. After each run where there is a small pause, you can feel the silence of a stadium full of people not making a sound. Everyone is engaged in the music at that moment and all are on edge waiting for the final "amen," which has that long suspension leading to the glorious resolution the audience needs so badly. Pretty great stuff.
It's not a marching band..... It's called Drum and Bugle COrps.... there is a huge difference... Drum Corps does not use woodwinds and have far better talent than a high school marching band
@kcbones175 Or, you could also say "Drum corps limit themselves through limited choice in instrumentation, intentionally, and we're not taken seriously in other music circles because of it."
Hey I'm a fan, and it's just true. Limit yourself to brass and percussion only, and limit the sound. Sometimes less is just... less.
@Apollostowel I don't ever think Drum Corps is ever limited for sound Apollo... Nothing can sound as regal as solid brass wall... And with voicing instruments as they do; Trumpet/Flugal/Mello/Bari/Euph/Contra... You've got 6 voicings right there, then add in 3 part harmony on top... What more do you need my friends?? Frankly with that sound bank, everything else gets lost. IMHO and I'm old school DCI so, I'm definitely bias, woodwinds and strings have no place on the field of competition.
I love it! But how on earth do they watch the drum major when he is standing up in the audience? I would find that kinda distracting. =/ But that's just me and I'm far from in Drum Corps! =P
@imnotgone144 Lol ya. Well when you're as good as these guys and have practiced as much, you probably don't even need one for a piece just standing still
It's beautiful. Frankly, most people in the crowds are not familiar with this version of Ave Maria by Biebl but I think it's the best version of all Ave Maria out there.
@acuison1 I agree too! we sing it in our choir and it is the only piece that has ever made my mother cry in my 10 years of being involved in choir, band or musical theatre.
@drewcunningham28 Lol ya. Well when you're as good as these guys and have practiced as much, you probably don't even need one for a piece just standing still
2 people just watched Spartacus and they still feel like nothing will ever be better and so they clicked dislike. And 1 blue devils fan is just being gay. ;)
4 years since i heard this in Faust...STILL gives me goosebumps like no other. thank you, phantom regiment, for being this musically talented. the cadence/resolution at the end from the baritone/euphs is what gets me every time. :)
Zach Headden, may his soul rest in peace, was the Head Drum Major for Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corp, he just recently passed away by car accident.

@Jamler3 For drum corps they don't, but let high schools have woodwinds, haha. And strings? That would be entertaining to watch

the trumpets in the beginning can't captivate the emotions of this piece quite like baritones can.
