Except for the fact that there are apparently only about 5 japanese voice actors who are used for every single application; and therefore the voices in every single anime and game sound like the same 4 or 5 guys just doing slight variations on the same voices. In anime, it's distracting to watch in English, but in videogames, I just have to go with English because the silly anime voices distract me from playing the game.

You can't realize this because you're obsessed with Japanese culture like many other sad people nowadays. Look at American animated movies and you get incredible acting. Wish they had used British voice actors like in Dragon Quest for Playstation 2. It sounds so awesome, because of the vast amount of regional variations. You get the rough guys to sound like a cockneys, the sissy to sound like Royalty, the people from far off towns to sound Welsh or Scottish. :( Plus American voice actors always seem to be speaking really slow, if you listen to the Jap version, they are speaking at normal speed....

Newburn's performance here surprised me. I /know/ he does Sephiroth very well, but here, he just...he sounds like he's doing the voice of some totally unimportant villager whose only line is 'The weather is nice today' or something. I know Sephiroth is younger here and hasn't gone crazy yet (and I appreciate the 'gigglechuckle', it was perfect), but that doesn't mean he should sound so deadpan.
